At-Tawbah 13: (Oh you believers!) Will you not fight against a nation that breaks covenants, attempts to drive away the Prophet (from his home) and has first started war against you? Or is it that you are afraid of them? The One who deserves to be feared by you is Allah. This is what the mu’min know.

Translation

(Oh you believers!) Will you not fight against a nation that breaks covenants, attempts to drive away the Prophet (from his home) and has first started war against you? Or is it that you are afraid of them? The One who deserves to be feared by you is Allah. This is what the mu’min know.

Tafsir

O you who believe! Will you not fight against the aggressors who broke their pledges between people, who drove the Prophet from his homeland, who continue the same mentality, and who started the war unjustly in the first place, in opposition to Allah and His Messenger, or do you fear them?

Allah (swt) is encouraging Muslims to fight and emphasizing that if there is anyone to fear, it is Allah (swt). He declares that they have nothing to fear. They only fight behind strong fortresses. That is, they fight behind strong weapons. Even if they face people and fight for a short time, they cannot persevere in their war. Because they love their lives and the world too much. In this respect, we see that they have been defeated against Muslims throughout history. In the histories written in the Ottoman Empire, we see that the crusader armies, which fought against the Ottoman Empire every decade, were defeated.

A believer, then, is a person who submits to Allah wholeheartedly, who does not exchange the word of Allah for the life of this world, and who prioritizes the rank of martyrdom over his life in this world. In this case, Allah is the only one worthy to be feared. Because all souls will return to Allah, and on that Day of Reckoning, they will give an account to Allah.

O people! Whether you do what Allah and His Messenger say or not, Allah will complete His light until the Day of Judgment. If you do what Allah and His Messenger say, you will attain happiness in two worlds, salvation and victory. Otherwise, if you turn your faces away from Allah and His Messenger, you are buying unrest and misery in this world and eternal torment in the Hereafter.

What is said in the video

Yes.

O believers! A people who broke their word, who set out to drive the Prophet from his homeland, and who first started war against you, will you not fight against such a people? it says. How beautifully it says it. What was explained just now, look, it all comes, entering the verses one after another like this. Will you not fight?

Or do you fear them? Yes. Now, at a wrongly explained verse of Surah At-Tawbah, there, let's take a look.

How did they explain it wrongly? Let's see. And then, we've already corrected this part.

Yes.

Surah At-Tawbah, which verse? The thirteenth verse. What does it say? O believers! A people who broke their word, who set out to drive the Prophet from his homeland, and who first started fighting against you, will you not fight against such a people? Or do you fear them? If you are true believers, it now says. True. Where does this "true" come from? If you are true Muslims, it says. If you are true Muslims, it says. If you are true believers, know that Allah is more deserving of your fear, it says. Yes.

Whereas there's no "true" or anything here. What do we say? The one who deserves your fear is Allah. If you are believing people, you know this to be so. Look, how beautiful. If you are believing people, you know this to be so. Otherwise, when it says "if you are true believers" and so on, it's just a story here. So one must grasp their meanings well. The verses are the science of kalam. Kalam. You must know kalam. O believers! Those who, opposing Allah and His Messenger, broke the word they gave among people, drove the Prophet from his homeland, carry on the same mentality and who first, unjustly, started the war, will you not fight against these aggressors?

Or do you fear them? Allah Almighty, by saying "Or do you fear them?", urges the Muslims to fight, and if there is anyone to be feared, it is Allah. He emphasizes that it is Allah. Yes. Again, in a verse Allah Almighty says, if there's anyone most to be feared, it is Me. If there's anyone most to be loved, it is Me too, He says. Yes. Because the Owner of the worlds, before creating the worlds, willed, and with His essence since He willed to be known by man, Allah Almighty, who takes man's essence as His addressee and gives man a value above the worlds and is honored with him, Allah Almighty being honored with man, and man with his Lord, and in the face of man's so exalted creation, before his Creator, if he takes his Creator's word lightly, falls into worry for his life and turns his back on Allah's command, woe to that person.

He harms himself. Yes. Allah Almighty, by saying "Or do you fear them?", urges the Muslims to fight and emphasizes that if there's anyone to be feared, it is Allah. He makes known that these have nothing about them to be feared. Nothing about them to be feared. These only wage war behind fortified fortresses. Behind fortified fortresses. That is, they fight behind powerful weapons. Even if they fight people face to face for a short time, they cannot stand firm in their battles. Because they love their lives and the world very much. Therefore throughout history we see that they were routed against Muslims.

As written in histories, the Crusader armies, who waged war every ten years against the Ottoman Empire, we see they were routed.

The English infidel says this. You can never defeat these. You can defeat these only on one condition. By removing the leader in front of them. Who is that leader, he says? Who? The Quran, he says, the Quran. Yes. That leader is the Quran, he says. So, for that Quran, the ones raising superstition hodjas are non-Muslims, mind you; those superstition hodjas telling people superstitions according to their nafs, those poor Muslims bound by them, being bound by superstitions, setting falsehood against the truth and turning people from the path of truth, besides harming their own selves, they also do service to the non-Muslim.

To the non-Muslim. Truly a bitter thing. A bitter thing. Yes.

So, the believing person, the believing person, who in his heart surrenders to Allah, who does not trade Allah's word for worldly life, who holds the rank of martyrdom above his life in this world, such people are believing people. In that case the only one worthy of being feared is Allah. Because all souls will return to Allah; on that day of reckoning they will give account to Allah. O people! From Allah and His Messenger, whether you do what His Messenger said or not, Allah will complete His light until the Day of Judgment. If you want, do what Allah Almighty says; if you want, don't. By your fleeing from war, by your fearing before the enemy and retreating, you won't extinguish Allah's light.

In one place it says, if you extinguish Allah's light; in another place, We, Allah says, to complete His light, create new peoples, it says, send new peoples. Yes, elsewhere it says He completes His light. Yes. Therefore, if the verse where He says "every soul will taste death, and your return is to Me", if you believe in it, if you believe, I call out to you right now. O people! Whether or not you do what Allah and His Messenger said, Allah will complete His light until the Day of Judgment. If you do what Allah and His Messenger said, you will attain the happiness of both worlds, salvation and victory.

Otherwise, if you turn your faces from Allah and His Messenger, while in this world unrest and misery, and in the hereafter an eternal punishment you will have bought.
