At-Tawbah 37: To postpone (the forbidden months) is only to transgress in disbelief. This is because with it, those who deny go astray. To distort the number that Allah has determined to be forbidden, and to make lawful that which Allah has made unlawful, they take (the forbidden months) as lawful in one year, and as unlawful in another year. (And thus) their bad deeds seem attractive to them. A nation of infidels (who continue on the wrong path) cannot attain Allah’s guidance.

Translation

To postpone (the forbidden months) is only to transgress in disbelief.

Tafsir

In the Jahiliyyah period, the Arabs, who were accustomed to waging war against each other and plundering each other's property, found it very difficult not to fight for four months in a row and to live in security and peace. Therefore, the polytheists tried to break this commandment of Allah, which had been in effect since the time of Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail, as they pleased. For example: They started to change the reverence shown to the month of Muharram to the month of Safar, and they started to move the other forbidden months back and forth. This continued until the tenth year of the Hijrah. At the Farewell pilgrimage, the Messenger of Allah (saw) declared that the months were in their proper place that year. This verse describes this event and reminds people who will come until the Day of Judgment to respect the prohibitions against these months.

Whoever does not take advantage of the virtues of these months, and moves these prohibitions back and forth, and ignores these prohibitions and goes to war, is only going further in disbelief and buying oppression in the Hereafter.

To wage war during these forbidden months is to disregard Allah and His laws, and people who do so will only increase their disbelief, and by disrespecting these months they will not only go astray but will also wrong themselves.

Whoever tries to overturn Allah's laws, and they try to rule by the laws they have made for themselves, their evil deeds will appear to them to be adorned. Thus, man becomes a sinner and a disbeliever, increasing his disbelief and rebellion in his pride and pride.

If people continue in this state, living in the rebellion of their nafs, befriending Satan and their nafs, and turning their backs on Allah and His Messenger, they will not attain the guidance of Allah.

Yes, postponing the sacred months is only going further in disbelief, it says. For example, if one says: in this month, which is a sacred month, in the sacred month let me postpone this and carry it out in the (?) month, sir, this is going further in disbelief, it says. In disbelief.

For example, let us say we have entered Dhu al-Qa'dah or Dhu al-Hijjah — I will wage war. In Dhu al-Hijjah I will again, for a month, this sacred (?), again carry out the month He named, but not wage war in that month; but when don't I wage war? For example, let us say in Shawwal (?) I will carry it out. Well, this is not allowed. If the sacred month is a month, the sacred month is kept in its month. For example, the month of Ramadan is kept in Ramadan. You cannot postpone Ramadan. You cannot postpone it. These are the same. You cannot postpone them. Postponing, however, is going further in disbelief, it says.

Yes. Postponing the sacred months is only going further in disbelief. Because by it those who disbelieve are led astray. Are led astray, it says. This is a verse that is wrong. It also has a (?). Sir, which verse of Surah At-Tawbah is it? Verse 37. Al Imran, Al-Ma'idah

Yes.

Verse 37 of Surah At-Tawbah. Yes. A verse (?) wrongly; it shows it here too anyway. (?) in red. In red, yes. It shows it here meanwhile. What do we say? Postponing the sacred months is only going further in disbelief. Because by it those who disbelieve go astray. Those who disbelieve go astray. Not are led astray. Allah leads no one astray. This is attributing a fault to Allah. Sir, they go astray. To break the number of what Allah has made forbidden and what He has made forbidden to make lawful, they count the sacred month lawful one year and forbidden another year, it says. Thus evil deeds seem good to them, evil deeds.

Whereas what does it say here? To them, their evil deeds have been made to seem good to them, it says. Look, Allah Almighty never makes an evil deed seem good. Here this is directly ascribing an attribute to Allah. Sir, it seems good to them; the disbelieving people, while in that state, cannot attain Allah's guidance. Whereas what does it say here? The disbelieving people cannot attain Allah's guidance.

Yes, postponing the sacred months is only going further in disbelief. Because by it those who disbelieve go astray. To break the number of what Allah has made forbidden and what He has made forbidden (?) to make lawful, they count the sacred month lawful one year and forbidden another year. Thus evil deeds are made to seem good to them. Evil deeds come to seem good to them. The disbelieving people cannot attain Allah's guidance. As long as they continue on that path, they cannot attain Allah's guidance. Yes.

For the Arabs, who in the Age of Ignorance had grown used to fighting one another and plundering one another's goods, not clashing for four months without break, living safely and in peace, was very hard. In peace. Now, they had grown used to it; they would take one another's goods. And just like a blood feud, not a blood feud, but like a blood feud, that one killed this one, he will take revenge on him; that one took his goods, he will take from him. These sacred months too, waiting four months, irked them. Because they would take revenge; they were burning with those feelings. They, a month, by their own whim, one year postpone these sacred months, and another year count them lawful.

Sir, not clashing for four months, living in safety and peace, was very hard for them. The polytheists set out to break them as they pleased. The polytheists, it says, set out to break Allah's command as they pleased. For example, they began to transfer the reverence shown to the month of Muharram to the month of Safar, the other sacred months too, to move them back and forth. This continued until the 10th year of the Hijra. This state. Until the 10th year of the Hijra. That is, after the Prophet's Hijra, for 10 more years this went on.

In the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet (peace be upon him) declared that the months that year had found their exact places. This verse, while telling of this event, reminds the people who will come until the Day of Judgment of reverence for the prohibitions concerning these months. Whoever does not benefit from the virtue of these months and shifts these prohibitions back and forth, whoever ignores these prohibitions and sets out to war, this is only going further in disbelief and buying oppression in the hereafter. In the hereafter. The laws Allah Almighty has set for people must not be taken lightly.

(?) loves Allah Almighty. Do not take the verses lightly, He says. That is, the reason we speak so sincerely with His verses: those verses are the crown on our heads. We must kiss every verse and place it on our heads. Every single verse. So that we show our reverence and respect toward Allah Almighty. Yes.

What do we say? Whoever does not benefit from the virtue of these months and shifts these prohibitions back and forth, whoever ignores these prohibitions and sets out to war, this is only going further in disbelief and buying oppression in the hereafter. Setting out to war in these sacred months is, yes, to treat Allah and His laws as nothing.

By behaving this way people only increase their own disbelief, and by their disrespect toward these months they both go astray and wrong their own nafs. Whoever does not revere these months but in this way, sir, takes them lightly and sets out to war in those months, he has strayed from the right path.

Whoever tries to break Allah's laws, and if they set out to judge by laws they set themselves, these evil deeds of theirs seem adorned to them. Yes, evil deeds seem adorned to them. Thus a person, in his pride and arrogance, by increasing his disbelief and rebellion, becomes a sinner and a disbeliever. becomes a sinner and a disbeliever. People continue in these states. He lives within the rebellions of his nafs. He becomes a friend to Satan and his nafs. If they turn their backs on Allah and His Messenger, in this state they cannot attain Allah's guidance. Yes, in this state. But if they repent, they attain Allah's mercy.
