Translation

If it were close worldly possessions and an easy journey, they (the hypocrites) would surely have followed you. But a burdensome travel appeared distant to them. But they will take an oath desperately, saying “if we had enough strength, we surely would go with you”. Allah however knows that they are liars.

Tafsir

When the Prophet (PBUH) was going on the expedition to Tabuk, hypocrites came and apologized to the Prophet (PBUH) and said that they could not join the expedition. The Prophet (PBUH) knew that such people would harm the army, so he allowed them not to participate in the expedition.

It is for such people that these verses have been revealed. Such people are not only of no use to the army, but they can also demoralize the army and cause harm to the people. Therefore, Allah (swt) responds to such people with the following Verses. Those Verses will be opened after the following Verses.

If these hypocrites had been able to obtain a worldly good without any effort, they would have followed the Messenger of Allah to obtain this temporary worldly good.

The arduous path seemed far to them. That is to say, the fear of death through fighting, the love of wealth and children, pleasure and enjoyment surrounded such people, so the commands of Allah were too heavy for such people and they remained stuck in their places.

The hypocrites will go to the extreme in lying and will lie to the Prophet (SAW) with all their might to justify themselves to him. They will say that if we were able, we would have come with you. They will also swear by Allah.

(But Allah knows that they are surely liars.) For they disbelieved in Allah when they made a covenant with Him in the eternal abyss (in Kalubala). Their desires and wishes have been given to them as destiny. Allah, Who has programmed the character of the hypocrites for their deeds, surely knows that they are liars, and He reveals them to the people.

What is said in the video

Of Surah At-Tawbah, Surah At-Tawbah, we have come to the forty-second verse. If it had been a near worldly gain and an easy journey, if it had been a near worldly gain and an easy journey, those hypocrites would certainly have followed you. Yes,

"a near worldly gain," what He means is this: that person will see it with his own eyes, he will get (?) of promises, like: if we go up to there, you will be given these things, and special horses and carriages will be assigned to you; if you come this far, you will obtain these, these goods; if they were told that, they would come running. Running.

But the arduous road seemed far to them.

They will indeed swear by Allah, "Had we been able, we would surely have gone out with you," as if destroying themselves. Yet Allah knows that they are surely liars. So these hypocrites, people, these hypocritical people, while Allah Almighty, what passes through people's hearts, knows, despite that, how they will deceive the person in front of them (?) and try to mislead Allah too! That is, Allah will not know what will pass through that person's heart. This is not possible. Because He gave them their natures, He gave them their characters; what, within those characters, they will say, feel and do, their own wish and desire, their intent, He wrote for them as destiny.

How can you deceive such a creator, and before such a creator how can you lie and try to mislead the Messenger of Allah? Yet Allah Almighty, to the Beloved of the Almighty, the Prophet Muhammad, what does He say? Allah knows that they are surely liars, He says. Yes. They are liars. If three signs come together, they are hypocrites. The three signs will be (?). The person will lie. In the first. He will be a liar. In the second, he will betray a trust. Betraying a trust. In the third, he will not keep his promise. From the word he gave, he will (?). If these three signs are together, he is a hypocrite.

He both does not keep his promise: he promises and does not keep it. And he betrays a trust, and he also lies.

The Prophet (peace be upon him), as he set out on the Tabuk campaign, the hypocrites came and, offering excuses to the Prophet, that they would not join the campaign they said. And the Prophet, knowing that such people would harm the army, permitted them not to join the campaign. So these verses were revealed for such people. Just as such people are of no use to the army, they can also cause people harm by breaking the army's morale. Therefore Allah Almighty, to such people, with the verses coming below, gives an answer. Those verses will be explained after the next verses. Yes.

If these hypocrites had been going to obtain effortless worldly goods, they would at once, to take this temporary worldly wealth, have followed the Messenger of Allah. That is, as I said a moment ago, if the Prophet had said to them: although we are going to war, to Tabuk, according to the news we received, this army, upon hearing that we are coming, or that we would come, upon hearing that we were gathering, left its goods and property there (?) and fled back. So that we could not catch them. We are now going to take these supplies. If you come, we will share; had he said that, ooh, they would have come running at once.

They would have come running. But since it was war: if it had been a near journey, they would have followed too, of course. Yes.

What do we say? If these hypocrites had been going to obtain effortless worldly goods, they would at once, to take this temporary worldly wealth, have followed the Messenger of Allah. Yes.

The arduous road seemed far to them. That is, because the fear of death in fighting, the love of wealth and children, pleasure and enjoyment surrounded such people, Allah's commands weighed heavily on such people, and so they stayed nailed to their places. The hypocrites, going to extremes in lying, to make themselves look right before the Prophet (peace be upon him), will spend every effort they can and lie. Because the Prophet had won the battle of Tabuk and is returning. The Prophet, while returning from Tabuk, also has a hadith like this. He says: we have come back from a small victory, we have come back from a small war; he does not say small victory; we have come back from a small war and are going to the great war.

The Companions say: O Messenger of Allah, how can there be an even greater war, they say. Yes. Now, he says, we are going to fight our nafs, he says, our nafs. Well, so the war of the nafs is harder than fighting those unbelievers and polytheists. Whoever overcomes his nafs, Allah's command, that ruling of the sharia, takes his place in his Lord's (?) and so enters among his Lord's friends.

So if those martyred in war enter among Allah's friends, then in that great (?), the struggle with one's nafs, one enters among Allah's saintly servants. Yes.

The hypocrites, going to extremes in lying, to make themselves look right before the Prophet (peace be upon him), will spend every effort they can and lie. If we had been able, we would have come with you too, they will say. They will also swear in Allah's name.

Yet Allah knows that they are surely liars. Because these, in pre-eternity (?), in their (?) to Allah Almighty, denied Allah. Their wishes and desires were given to them as destiny. Allah Almighty, who programmed the characters of the hypocrites too (?), of course knows that they are liars and declares this to people. Yes.

Yes.
