At-Tawbah 47: If they had gone with you (to battle), they would not have had any other contribution to you, but mischief and they surely would have run among you to cause mischief. There are some among you who would have listened to them. Allah knows the oppressors well.

Translation

If they had gone with you (to battle), they would not have had any other contribution to you, but mischief and they surely would have run among you to cause mischief. There are some among you who would have listened to them. Allah knows the oppressors well.

Tafsir

Islamic troops, Muslim armies, have high morale in times of war because they fight for Allah. They continue to fight because their hearts are set on Allah. If these hypocrites had been in the Islamic troops, if they had come to the battle with the Muslims, they would have made mischief during the battle and made excuses to leave the battle with all kinds of lies because they were afraid of the enemy troops. Since there would have been people with weak faith among the Islamic troops who would have listened to them, perhaps they would have led an army to ruin.

In this respect, their being with those who sit down and remain in their places, fearing the battle because of their character, is a favor from Allah to the armies of Islam. According to the verse "Allah will complete His light", those who do not run away from the battle and fight for Allah and His Messenger, Allah is with them and Allah supports the armies of Islam with armies that people cannot see, as proven by the victories won by the Muslims.

(Allah knows the wrongdoers very well.) For He has written their behavior, character, desires and wishes as their destiny. He also knows what all human beings will do and what all His creations will do until the Day of Judgment.

What is said in the video

In verse 47 of Surah At-Tawbah how beautifully Allah Almighty declares their nature to us here even more clearly. Had they too gone out to battle among you, they would have added nothing to you but defeatism. Why? Because they love their lives so much — "the units facing us are too many", or "their cannons and rifles, their equipment are too much", or "we cannot today stand against them" — with such (?) they would cloud people's minds and incite them to defeatism. And surely, stirring up strife, seeking to stir up strife, they would have run about among you. Among you there are also those who would listen closely to them.

Because there are also people close to that state. Allah knows the wrongdoers very well, it says. Surely our Lord, who knows our covenant, who works our will into us as character — our Lord knows us better than we know ourselves. These states of the hypocrites — the morale of the Islamic units at the time of battle we raised (?); since they gave their hearts to Allah, they continue the war. Had these hypocrites, within the Islamic units, entered the war together with them, they would have spread defeatism at the time of battle; fearing the enemy units, they would have invented all kinds of lies, sought excuses to leave the battle, and since within the Islamic units there are also people weak in faith who would listen to them, they might perhaps have ended up ruining an army.

So the fact that these cowards, these hypocrites did not come to the war is also a help from Allah to Islam.

For this reason, their being with those who sit — their, as their character requires, fearing battle and staying as if nailed in place — is also a grace of Allah to the Islamic armies, and Allah will complete His light. Yes, according to the verse too, to such people, that those who do not flee from battle are for Allah and His Messenger, and that those who fight are on Allah's paths, and that with armies people do not see Allah supports Islam, will have been proven by the victories won. With armies people do not see, Allah Almighty supports those Muslims. For example, I am a witness to some of these.

In the Korean War, sir, a soldier going for water, while filling his canteens, seven or eight armed men, sir, take him captive. They have aimed their weapons right at him, about to shoot him. Then they hand their weapons over to that man. He comes. That man takes them and brings them. He hands them over to the commander. How did this happen? he asks. They say: it wasn't this one who captured us. The green-turbaned ones captured us, they say. Yes. We (?) many miracles too. In the Cyprus operations. So, as at the Battle of Badr, where with three thousand angels Allah Almighty supported the Prophet at Badr, with those unseen armies Allah Almighty supports the Muslim.

Unseen armies — they may be angels, they may be adverse weather, they may be martyrs. Because they are alive. Yes. Many miracles (?). That is why, keep your feet firm, says Allah Almighty. Keep them firm. I am with you, He says.

Allah knows the wrongdoers very well. Perhaps, as I said, it is Allah who gives us our characters. Of course He will know us very well. Because He has written their conduct, their characters, their desires and wishes for them as destiny. Destiny. Yes.

These are like this. What all His creatures to come until the Day of Judgement will do, Allah Almighty knows that too, and what these will do as well.
