At-Tawbah 66: Do not bring excuses, because after believing, you became infidels again. We forgave a group among you (that repented) and We will punish the other group (that has not repented) because they are wrongdoers.

Translation

Do not bring excuses, because after believing, you became infidels again. We forgave a group among you (that repented) and We will punish the other group (that has not repented) because they are wrongdoers.

Tafsir

Among the hypocrites, people who converted to Islam and then returned to hypocrisy became disbelievers. A group of these hypocrites realized their mistakes and repented again, expressing their regret. Allah is very forgiving. He created human beings imperfect and flawed. He accepted the repentance of those who repented. But the other group among them, because they did not repent, became disbelievers and continued to disbelieve, leading the way of disbelief. Allah will torment them. There is no soul that will not be recompensed for what it has done. Since Allah is the Owner of Justice, Allah has prepared a painful torment for those who disbelieve in Allah and the Hereafter, even though they know the truth.

What is said in the video

This verse has been wrongly rendered; let us first read the wrong version, then read the correct one.

Do not make excuses in vain, it says. I will explain these now. Why does Allah Almighty say so? If I don't apologise to Allah, to whom will I apologise? These are things to be explained. Do not make excuses in vain. For you became unbelievers again after having believed. Even if We forgive a group of you who repent, it says. Look, even if We forgive a group of you who repent, We will punish a group because they are guilty, it says.

Now I'm reading the correct one. Do not make excuses in vain. For you became unbelievers again after having believed. We have forgiven a group of you who repented. Not "even if We forgive". "We have forgiven." Because "even if We forgive" makes it hesitant. If he repented, he will be forgiven. We have forgiven. The other group, who did not repent, We will punish because they are guilty, it says. Because they are guilty.

Now, "do not make excuses in vain", He said; the meaning: after you became Muslims you became unbelievers again, it says. So among them there will again be apostates, those who turn back. Apostate. Since there is no other door to go to, in this way they too receive pardon and forgiveness. But after repenting. So if Allah Almighty knows the secrets of hearts, if He knows the secrets of hearts, then those who repent and those who don't He knows. In this case, those who repent, repent: We have forgiven. But for those who don't repent there is punishment, it says. Yes.

Those of the hypocrites who became Muslim and then turned back to hypocrisy have become unbelievers. A group among these hypocrites, realising the mistakes they made, expressing their regret, repented again. Allah is Most Forgiving. And He created people deficient and fallible. Like this. (?). My throat (?).

We said Allah Almighty is very forgiving. And He has not created people deficient and fallible. What does He say in the verse?

If We had created you so that you would commit no errors, We would destroy you and create servants who commit errors. Here, since Allah Almighty wants to see no being equal to His essence, since He by His essence is the self-subsisting, absolute Owner of the worlds, since He gave people of His spirit and made them His addressees, He created people in helplessness, so that they would constantly ask of their Owner. For example, assume this. There's no harm in a comparison. Your father is worth trillions. His property — a billionaire, trillions. I don't work at all. My father's income is great, his treasures are many.

there's no need to work. I always live off my father. Off my father. I take from him. It's all there. I live, that is. But in return for this eating, I must also know my father. If, in return for my father earning so much and giving it to me, in return for his kindness, I am ungrateful to him, that does not befit a human being. So Allah too, Allah too has made people His addressees; He gives, gives, pours down. Here, if a person is ungrateful to that Allah, it befits neither that person's conscience nor his humanity.

Truly, if the son of that rich father thinks: my father has prepared a great capital for me. I eat and drink, I go about thanks to my father — the more love he feels for his father and attaches himself, the more the father loves him too. Think: though Allah gives to you like this, if you too attached yourself to Allah like that, what would He not give you! Yes. We need to think a little. We need to submit a little to our Lord. Yes.

But the other group among them, since they did not repent, being the forerunners of kufr, continuing in their kufr, have become unbelievers. Allah will punish them. There is no soul that will not find the recompense of what it did. Since Allah is just, for those in the material world who hold their partial will in their hands, who, although they know the truth, deny Allah and the Hereafter, He has prepared a manifest punishment.
