At-Tawbah 83: If Allah makes you return to a group among them, and if they ask for permission to go with you (on another campaign), say to them “you will never go with me and you will never fight against the enemy with me. This is because you were content with sitting the first time (in the battle of Tabuk). Now, sit with those who stay back (women and children).”

Translation

If Allah makes you return to a group among them, and if they ask for permission to go with you (on another campaign), say to them “you will never go with me and you will never fight against the enemy with me. This is because you were content with sitting the first time (in the battle of Tabuk). Now, sit with those who stay back (women and children).”

Tafsir

If Allah brings you back to Madinah and you return to a group of the hypocrites and they ask you for permission to go out for another battle (say), 'You will never go out with me and you will never fight with me against the enemy. In this verse, the good news is given that the expedition of Tabuk will be returned safely. On the other hand, if you return to a group of people and they ask you for permission to go out to fight, say: "You will never go out with me," this group is the group that did not repent. There is also a group of people who realize their mistake and re-converted to Islam and embraced Islam. The other group of hypocrites is the group of hypocrites who stubbornly do not believe in Allah and His Messenger.

Allah is addressing to those people who are enemies of Islam, who see their wrongdoing and do not enter Islam out of hatred and resentment, these are the people who will never go to war with you against your enemy. Because these are the people who preferred to sit with the people who sat in the Tabuk expedition the first time. Again, these are the ones who would have preferred to sit. Even if there were some among them who would come to fight with you, they would certainly create sedition in the army and demoralize the army. Therefore, Allah says to such hypocrites who do not believe in Allah and the Hereafter that they will never fight with you.

What is said in the video

If Allah brings you back to a group of them — that is, from the Tabuk campaign you return to Medina — and they ask your permission to go out with you to another battle, say: you will never go out with me. What a bitter event — never; it's over now. That is, Allah Almighty, knowing the covenant they gave in the pre-eternal assembly, tells the Prophet: say this to them. Because they — since our Lord says, We know what every single living being to come until the Day of Judgement will do — knowing that these, these hypocrites, will not repent, He says, tell them this. And these, while still in this world, are people stamped with the punishment of Hell.

Just as, while still in this world, those honoured with Paradise received their stamp, like the ten promised Paradise. These too have received the stamp of the people of Hell. What does this mean?

What does it say? If you return from the Tabuk campaign to Medina and, to go out with you to another battle, they ask your permission, say: you will never go out with me. What does this mean? It means being stamped with Hell while still in this world. It means declaring the stamp that their hearts are sealed.

And you will never fight the enemy with me. Because the first time, on the Tabuk campaign, you were content to stay in your places. Now sit with those who stay behind, with the women and children.

If Allah brings you back to Medina, if you return to a group of the hypocrites, and the hypocrites ask your permission to go out to another battle, say: with me you will never go out, and you will never fight the enemy with me. This verse gives the good news that from the Tabuk campaign, safe and sound, they would return.

In return, if He brings you back to a group and they ask your permission to go out to battle, say: you will never go out with me — the group it speaks of is the group that does not repent. A group of them are people who, understanding their mistakes, entered Islam again and were honoured with Islam. The other hypocrite group, however, is the group of hypocrites who stubbornly do not believe in Allah and His Messenger. Yes.

What does it say here anyway? If Allah brings you back to a group of them — brings you back, it says. A group. So among them there is also a group that will become Muslim.

Those groups are the ones who repent and enter Islam. This is for the groups that do not repent. Those, as we said, are people stamped with Hell while still in this world. Yes.

Here Allah, addressing these — who see their faults yet, with feelings of grudge and hatred, do not enter Islam — addressing people who are enemies of Islam: these are people who will never go with you against the enemy out to battle.

Because these, the first time, on the Tabuk campaign, preferred sitting with those who sat; that is the kind of people they are. Again, in fact, these are the ones who will choose to sit. Even if among them there are those who will come to battle with you, surely they will stir up discord in the army and break the army's morale. For this reason, of such hypocrites who believe neither in Allah nor the Hereafter, Allah declares: these will never be able to fight alongside you. That is, Allah Almighty, by declaring to the Prophet (peace be upon him) the state of the hypocrites, brought about the rooting of the religion of Islam, and until the Day of Judgement the rule of this religion He has made endure.

Yes.
