Translation

When a chapter was sent down, saying; “Believe in Allah and fight with the Messenger”, the wealthy ones among them asked for permission from you and said; “Leave us, we shall be among those who sit (in their homes)”.

Tafsir

O people! When the Surah was revealed saying, 'Believe in Allah and trust in His Messenger and strive hard with him,' those of them who had wealth, that is, those who had not converted to Islam but were hypocrites and disbelievers, said, 'Leave us, let us stay at home with those who stay at home. They feared death and loved their wealth and property more than Allah. They could not go out for jihad for Allah. When death comes to a person. It catches him wherever he is. Allah (swt) says in an Ayat (verse), "If you go to the farthest corner of the sky to escape death, We will find you there". So, if there is no dying before the time of death comes, and if no one can prevent it when the time comes, and if the order will be fulfilled, would people of sound mind waste the life of the eternal bliss for a few hours of pleasure in the temporary world?

So permission was given to them to stay with those who were in their houses. They stayed with those who stayed in their houses. By disobeying Allah's commandment, they have been condemned to a life of eternal suffering in the Hereafter, far from Allah's mercy, with no friend or intercessor.

What is said in the video

Understood, Mehmet, I guess.

We have come to verse 86 of Surah At-Tawbah.

Believe in Allah, believe in Allah.

Wage jihad together with His Messenger. Together with His Messenger. When a surah was revealed saying this, those of them who had wealth asked your permission and said, leave us, with those who sit in their homes let us be. That is, with the women let us sit. Leave us — the wealthy one. He cannot part from his wealth and property. Yet neither the wealth is his nor the property. If wealth and property had been ours, it would not be possible for Allah Almighty to take it from us. Then He would be committing (?) against us. That is, just as we usurp, take others' property, Allah Almighty would have usurped, taken our property from our hands.

Yet wealth and property belong to Allah. Why to Allah? Because whatever exists, from the atom to the globe, He created. What He created is His. Doesn't the verse say so? The heavens and the earth and what is between them have known the remembrance of their Lord, according to the verse. That is, if they have known the remembrance of their Lord, if Allah created the heavens, the earth and what is between them, every soul will taste death. The inheritance of the heavens and the earth will remain to Allah, it says. In that case, if we see the trusts Allah has given as our own, feel desire for them, put Allah's command behind, put it behind our backs, turn a deaf ear, and love our lives too much and prefer the realm of the Hereafter, our true place, to the world — then we sit with those who sit here.

Now, when I say with those who sit, I mean them, that is our wives — I don't say it looking down on them. Allah Almighty does not look down on them either. His command: they will look after the children. At home they will be obedient to their husbands. And they will fulfill their duty. And when the time came, those people called the ones who sit, that is those wives of ours, our mothers, our sisters, in the battles of Çanakkale carried the shells (?) on their backs and fought at the front. Yes. Even though Allah Almighty says "those who sit", if they did not sit but fought at the front for their religion, their homeland, their honor, then these people, those rich ones, so as not to give up the wealth Allah granted them, fell into a state even more contemptible than those who sit.

Yes.

We continue with the verse. O people! Believe in Allah and trust His Messenger. And when a surah was revealed saying wage jihad with him, those of them who had wealth, that is, those who did not enter Islam and were hypocrites and unbelievers: leave us, with those who sit at home let us sit, they said.

They feared death.

At that time these may be non-Muslims, or hypocrites too. The verse here is not necessarily only about them.

When it says believe in Allah and His Messenger, among the believers too there are those in this situation.

Yes. Allah forbid. We witness many things.

They feared death; their wealth and property, their children and family, more than Allah they loved. They did not go out to jihad for Allah. Once death comes to a person, wherever he is, it catches him. In a verse Allah Almighty says, even if you went to the (?) seat of the heavens to escape death, We would still find you there, He says. So then, dying before the time of death comes — or rather, in the verse Allah Almighty says, when that death comes to you, it is neither an hour early nor an hour late.

And when its time comes, there is none to prevent it. That is, when it comes at the time of death, can we prevent it? That matter is over. Allah's decree will come to pass. If Allah's decree comes to pass, if it cannot be prevented, if souls will taste death, then people of sound mind, carried away by a few hours' pleasure and enjoyment of the passing world, do not kick away the life of the eternal abode of bliss. Those of sound mind. So they were given permission to sit with those who sit in their homes. They stayed with those who sit in their homes. By stepping outside Allah's command, in the Hereafter, far from Allah's mercy, with neither a friend nor an intercessor, the eternal suffering of such a life they attained.

Because there they have neither a friend nor an intercessor, it says. And all the pleasant deeds they did are wasted too. Yes.
