(Abraham) said, “do they hear you when you call onto them?
Tafsir
Hadrat Ibrahim 'alaihis-salâm' continued his questions in order to awaken his people and these people and invite them to the Truth. Ibrahim 'alaihis-salâm' said, 'Do those whom you carved with your hands and worshipped as gods, who are ignorant of themselves, hear you?

they do not. In Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 72, Abraham (peace be upon him) says the following. He said: Well then, do they hear you when you call upon them? How well he puts it. When you worship those idols, do they hear you? Abraham (peace be upon him), in order to awaken his people and these people and to invite them to the truth, continues his questions. Abraham (peace be upon him) said: Well then, these things, unaware of themselves, that you (?) by carving with your hands and that you worship as God, do they hear you? These too are what Allah has created. These too are lifeless. So you carve this, you shape it.
