There are some that listen to you (to the Qur’an that you recite). However, (due to their rebellion,) there are some among them who have put veils upon their hearts and a cover upon their ears. Even if they were to see all types of miracles, they would not believe. When these infidels come to you, they even argue with you, saying, “this Qur’an is nothing but the tales of the previous ones”.
Tafsir
Those who rebel against Allah and disbelieve. Those who deny the Holy Qur'an sent by Allah (swt) when the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.) recites it, say that this is only a tale of the ancients. Because such people, with their will in their hands, have had Allah (swt) program them to be rebels and deniers of Allah (swt) based on their own desires and wishes, such people do not want to listen to the Holy Qur'an when it is recited. They feel depressed. Their hearts shrink and they want to run away from it. If God had not existed, would these people have been in this situation?
People who are armed with the traits that they like in themselves and which they like in bad ways, of course, do not want to understand the Holy Qur'an when it is recited. They have placed veils in their hearts and weights in their ears as a barrier. In this case, they cannot comprehend the Qur'an as the Word of Allah. Those who cannot compromise what they like because of the egoism and grandeur in their nafs and the bad traits in their nature do not want to understand the truth that the intellect shows them. In this respect, since the intellect shows the right and the nafs shows the wrong, when a person turns towards what his nafs likes and not what his intellect shows, anarchy begins in the person himself. The person becomes restless. In this respect, those who are enemies of Allah and His Messenger, those who are with their nafs, cannot find peace by opposing the Truth. They seek peace in lust, drinking, gambling, sitting with people and idle talk. However, none of these traits can give peace to a person with the effect of the light that Allah has placed in the heart of man. So such people are restless because they have not found the peace they are looking for.
If you show all kinds of miracles in front of such people, they still do not believe in the existence of Allah. Even when these people come to the Messenger of Allah, they argue with the Prophet and say that these are tales invented by the ancients.
By confessing with their own mouths that they are rebels against Allah, such people prove that they are cruel to their own souls. When they say that these are the fables of the ancients, they are referring to the Prophets who came before the Prophet (PBUH) and openly admit that they do not believe in them either.
But they do not think that many peoples who disbelieved in those Prophets have perished in the earth, incurring the wrath of Allah. If only they had taken lessons from the people who perished and said that the Holy Qur'an is the Word of truth, instead of saying that it is a tale of the ancients. But when they come to the Prophet with their rebellious traits, they prefer to argue. Allah, Who knows what will happen until the Day of Resurrection, has completed all His blessings on mankind and has placed the responsibility on them. Such people pity their own souls by denying Allah and His Messenger.
What is said in the video
Surah Al-An'am, verse 25, Surah Al-An'am, verse 25, one of the wrongly interpreted verses.
Here it says: Among them are those who listen to you, to the Quran you recite. Among them are those who listen to the Quran you recite. But to prevent them from understanding it — that is, now Allah Almighty, to prevent them from understanding the Quran, to prevent people from understanding — We placed veils over their hearts and heaviness in their ears, it says. It cannot be like this. Allah cannot be like this. He sent this Quran to the world. He sent it to all people. Would Allah ever discriminate? You know, even (?) with partial will — what they (?) by their own desire, for themselves they had it written as their wish, as destiny.
Among them, it says, are those who listen to you while you recite the Quran. But, it says — but, to prevent them from understanding it, over their hearts We placed veils, and heaviness in their ears. Even if they saw every kind of miracle, they still would not believe in it. Indeed, when those disbelievers come to you, saying this Quran is nothing but the tales of the ancients, they argue with you, it says. Now, we have corrected this part. They too — there were those who listened to the Quran you recite. Among them were those who listened to the Quran you recite. This part is correct. But they too had, preventing them from understanding it, over their hearts veils, and heaviness in their ears.
What is it? But they too — preventing them from understanding it. preventing — that is, preventing them from understanding the Quran — veils over their hearts, and heaviness in their ears they had caused to be placed. Even if they saw every kind of miracle, they still would not believe in it. Indeed, when those disbelievers come to you, saying this Quran is nothing but the tales of the ancients, they argue with you, it says. Yes. Al-An'am, Surah, verse 25, is like that.
How did we write it in our translation? (?), let us take a look at that too.
Surah Al-An'am, 25th verse.
Yes. Among them were those who listened to the Quran you recite. But there were those who, preventing them from understanding it, over the hearts had veils, and in their ears heaviness, placed. Even if they saw every kind of miracle, they still in this state would not believe in it; indeed, when those disbelievers come to you, saying this Quran is nothing but the tales of the ancients, they argue with you, it says. So here Allah Almighty, to their ears, gives the veils, but He says, We did this to prevent them from understanding it. It is not so. Those persons themselves want it, to prevent their understanding of it.
And Allah Almighty, to place those barriers on them — the characters, that is, those characters, those persons want. According to those characters, they have had those barriers placed on their ears and eyes. Because they want those characters.
Among them were those who listened to the Quran you recite. But they too had (?) their hearts, which prevented them from understanding it, and had heaviness put in their ears. Even if they saw every kind of miracle, they still would not believe in it. Indeed, when those disbelievers come to you, saying this Quran is nothing but the tales of the ancients, they argue with you, it says. Those who rebel against Allah and deny Him — the Noble Quran sent by Allah Almighty, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) recites it, the deniers say this is only the tales of the ancients. Now, this "tales of the ancients" comes up a lot; in Allah Almighty's verses this "tales of the ancients" comes up often.
If we dwell a little on this "tales of the ancients", we see how unreasonable people are. If we use our reason — of course, if we use our reason on the tales of the ancients — we see how unreasonable the people who say this are. The reason — well, was this the tales of the ancients? What was the tale of the ancients? Believing in a single God. The tale of the ancients. You heard this from the ancients, and you call it a tale of the ancients — did you not hear of the disasters that befell the ancients? When they too were told to believe in one God, when those prophets said, believe in one God, those who called them tales of the ancients too demanded miracles, and with those miracles, were those of old not destroyed?
Like the people of Lot, like the people of Ad, like the people of Thamud, like Pharaoh — were peoples not destroyed? Well then, if you call the God of those prophets, the One, a tale of the ancients, then for such destruction of the ancients, what lie will you invent? What will you say to them? So let people just once rebel against Allah, that is. Let them just deny Allah at that Alastu bi-Rabbikum address. After that, their insight closes like this. Their insight — they draw veils over their eyes, have them drawn. They (?) heaviness in their ears. They have their hearts sealed. After that, according to those characters, since they wrote their desires and wishes for themselves as characters, as destiny, the Quran they can no longer understand.
Yes. Those who rebel against Allah and deny Him — the Noble Quran sent by Allah Almighty, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) recites it, the deniers say this is only the tales of the ancients. Because such people, with partial will in their hands, according to their own desires and wishes, had themselves programmed toward Allah Almighty as rebels against Allah and deniers, so when the Noble Quran is recited, these people do not want to listen. A distress comes over them, their hearts tighten, they want to flee from there. If there were no Allah, would these people suffer these states? Like this. If there were no Allah.
Yes. Would they live through these states? What would he say? (?) there is no Allah. We became like this, we came like this. Brother, what are you saying? Do you feel that you were created? Yes. I just became like this. Go on. He says, my God, I recognize no Allah. He says, I recognize no prophet, no book. He just goes off. And he is not distressed at all. Well, where does this distress come from? This distress — so the cause of this distress is the Alastu bi-Rabbikum address. What does it say? There they said yes, it says. Yes. That is, they knew that they were created by a Lord, it says. They knew. This reason is in them.
So according to this reason — since they will live their own desires and wishes, since they had their own wishes written as their destiny — they worship not that One Allah, but the Allah in their own imagination. The Lord in their own imagination, that is, the idols — when you speak of them, their hearts open up. They are pleased with you. But when you say they are made up, that they too were created by a single God, their hearts tighten. They flee from you. So they know Allah. Yes. And this is the proof of it anyway. They know Allah.
People who are equipped with traits within them that enjoy evil ways — of course, when the Noble Quran is recited, preventing them from understanding it, there are veils on their hearts and heaviness in their ears. Yes. Because, in line with their desires and wishes, those characters they had given to themselves. They cannot grasp the Quran as Allah's word. With the ego and grandeur in their nafs, they will not yield anything of the characters in their nature that they enjoy so as to understand the truth that reason shows them. The characters their nafs enjoys. What are they? Gambling, fornication, drink, usury, let me tell you, every kind of evil, lies, swindling, every kind of thing — these they enjoy. Because their characters are like that.
But when told to turn to Allah, they never believe. With the ego and grandeur in their nafs, they will not yield anything of the characters in their nature that they enjoy so as to understand the truth that reason shows them. So since reason shows the right and the nafs the wrong, when a person turns not to what his reason shows but to what his nafs enjoys, in that person an anarchy begins. Anarchy. Now, a person wants to go gambling. A person wants to go out to have fun. His reason says, stop, you have a Lord. You were created. You are not aimless. But the nafs says, I will go. His reason prevails, and he goes.
What happens? Reason and conscience keep making him uneasy. Because he is in a sense of responsibility. Because he has reason. He feels a responsibility. But on the other hand he has become a captive of the nafs, run after his friends, followed the trail of the taghut, and never gives up evil. What happened now? Reason and nafs are in a struggle. That is where Allah Almighty's verse comes into view. What does it say? Their hearts are restless and scattered. Anarchy has begun in him. Yes. So if a person is with his reason, with the truth, with his Lord, this anarchy is removed; he enters not the path the nafs shows but the path of truth, and finds peace, peace, yes, finds peace.
A person becomes restless. So those who are enemies to Allah and His Messenger, those who are with their nafs, those who oppose the truth cannot find peace. In them you cannot find peace. They seek peace in lust, in drink, in gambling, in sitting with people in empty chatter. Look, they all drink; alcoholics. They live their worldly life. Losing themselves, for a moment they think they are living. With drink they go into disbelief, fall into sin. And by killing their time they become the living dead. And since they rebel knowingly against the truth, against turning to the truth, they increase their disbelief.
But no trait, with the effect of the light Allah placed in man's heart, can give a person peace. So such people, the peace they seek they cannot find, and so they are restless. Even if you showed every kind of miracle before the eyes of such people, still these people do not believe in Allah's existence. What does it say? Allah Almighty in His verse: before your eyes thousands of miracles appear every day. You do not see, you are blind, it says. You are blind. Yes. Miracles every moment.
The simplest: today I was coming here on the road. A cat crossed in front of the car. Now, cats cross. A cat always crosses in front of us. So I looked, my wife — look how honourably human beings were created. Look at this animal, I said.
Maybe it has no food either. It has not stored any food at all. Every moment it seeks its sustenance, eats, drinks. But look at man: Allah has given, he has stocked up. He has food for the evening, food for the morning. Even if, at the very least, he has no food for the evening, a person still relies on somewhere. He will get it from somewhere and eat. He will eat. Because Allah will give him his sustenance. But look at these animals, I say. None of them has a stock. They do not stock up, and they go about day by day. It too remembers Allah. We too remember Allah. Because if it says the heavens and the earth and what is between them know the remembrance of their Lord, then all of Allah Almighty's creatures remember their Lord.
So when we as human beings look at that animal, with those feelings, with the feelings of our love for our Lord, we pass into a quite different world. That is, we give thanks to our Lord. For making us the noblest of creatures, giving us of His spirit, addressing us directly, and giving our sustenance abundantly,
setting us apart from His other creatures.
Is this not also a miracle before your eyes?
Yes, this too, before our eyes, a miracle; every day before your eyes, it says, thousands of miracles appear; you do not see, you are blind, it says. So such people — even if you showed every kind of miracle before their eyes, still these people do not believe in Allah's existence; indeed, when these people come to the Messenger of Allah, they argue with the prophets: these are tales the ancients made up, they say. Such people, with their own mouths, confessing that they rebel against Allah, are unjust to their nafs. When they say these are tales of the ancients, the Prophet (peace be upon him) — the prophets who came before him, they (?), and openly confess that they do not believe in them either.
As I said a moment ago, those prophets whom they call tales of the ancients — when they openly confess they do not believe in them, these people who show such disrespect to them and let such words as "these are tales of the ancients" come out of their mouths — those prophets they call tales of the ancients — when Allah Almighty destroyed those peoples, where did they hide them? These are truly unreasonable and (?) people. These are the four-legged ones roaming the earth. These are the people who benefit from all the blessings Allah gave and are ungrateful to Allah. Yes. Yet they never think that many peoples who denied those prophets, incurring Allah's wrath, were destroyed on earth and passed away.
If only, instead of saying it is the tales of the ancients, they had taken lessons from those destroyed and said the Noble Quran is the word of truth. But with the rebellious traits in them, when they come to the Prophet they prefer to argue. That is why Allah, free from all deficient attributes, completing all His blessings to people, has placed responsibility on people. Such people, by denying Allah and His Messenger, wrong their own nafs. Yes.
