Tafsir
Even though the verse is addressed to the Prophet (s.a.w.)Although the verse is addressed to the Prophet (s.a.w.s.), it is also meant to guide people and make them reflect; ("Shall I take as a friend anyone other than Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth out of nothing, Who feeds and yet is not fed?" means that there is no God but Allah, and that Allah alone has the power and might to create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them out of nothing, and that Allah gives life to all His creatures and feeds and nourishes them, and that He alone does not need anything, does not eat or drink, and is not fed by anyone, and does not need any other creature. When will you realize that Allah, Who created the universe out of nothing, created those whom you worship as gods who do not benefit themselves?
(Say, I have been commanded to be the first of the Muslims and not to be among the polytheists). When Allah (swt) willed to create human beings out of nothing, He gave His light to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Then He gave him the honor of being the first of creation and the first of mankind by giving him his soul. In this respect, he became (vema erselnake illa rahmetan lil alemin). In order to be a mercy to the worlds, he must obey Allah's commands to the letter. When he obeys Allah's commands to the letter, he becomes a Muslim, and when he is the first created, he becomes the first of the Muslims. Prophets are also the first Muslims created. They are the first to be created from the soul of Prophet Muhammad. Since the souls of the tribes are created from the souls of the Prophets, the Prophets are the first created Muslims in relation to the created human beings.
When he says, "I am commanded to be the first of the Muslims," it means that Allah (swt) Himself discipled the Prophet (pbuh) and raised him according to His will. In this respect, the Prophet (SAW) is free from polytheists and disbelievers.

proving. It continues with the verses. It still continues to prove. What does it say? Surah Al-An'am, verse 14. Say: The One who created the heavens and the earth from nothing, who feeds and is not fed, Allah — shall I take someone other than Allah as friend? Say: I was commanded to be the first of the Muslims. And: never be of the polytheists, I was told. it says. Allah Almighty gives people examples in all kinds of ways. Say: The One who created the heavens and the earth from nothing. Yes. Who feeds and is not fed — He needs nothing at all. Is not fed. Shall I take someone other than Allah as friend, Allah protect us?
Say: I was commanded to be the first of the Muslims.
First, so that He would be known, Allah Almighty created from His light the light of the Prophet. Then He gave him of His spirit. Yes, the first of Islam, the first of people, the first of created beings, the first of the worlds.
I am deeply moved.
Such a love. The first of the worlds. As it is said: were it not for you, the worlds would not have been created. All the worlds were created from his light, and people from his spirit. Yes, the first of Islam and the first of the worlds. That is, when I say worlds: the first of created beings. Yes.
Say: I was commanded to be the first of the Muslims, and: never be of the polytheists, I was told.
Yes.
Although the verse addresses the Prophet, to guide people and lead them to reflection, it says 'Say'. Although it addresses the Prophet, in truth the verses address the past, the present and the future. Because the Quran will continue until the Day of Judgement and guide people; Allah Almighty — Did they think they would put out Allah's light by blowing with their mouths? the verse in which He says Allah will complete His light until the Day of Judgement — each of His verses will guide people according to their circumstances. Allah Almighty's, Allah's attribute: on that Day of Judgement no one will be able to say, if only you had done this like this, and if only that had been like that.
Yes.
So however much it addresses the Prophet, in truth, for the people who will come until the Day of Judgement, as a leader, proof and light for people, as a light, Allah Almighty presents His verses to people. Although the verse addresses the Prophet (peace be upon him), to guide people and lead them to reflection, it says, it says: Say: The One who created the heavens and the earth from nothing, who feeds and is not fed — other than Allah shall I take someone as friend? Yes, Abraham says the same. To his people: these servants Allah created, who bring you no benefit or harm, who do not even hear what you say — how, he says, can you worship them, how can you adore them?
And to those who say, we found our forefathers upon this, say: what if your forefathers too knew nothing at all — (?) So, O man, use your mind; never step outside your Owner's word. We have a nafs; perhaps, against what our Owner, our Lord, says, we follow our nafs and err. Then repent at once, it says. We accept the repentance of those who repent at once, says Allah Almighty. Repent at once. The Prophet says: when you commit a sin, do a good deed right after it, so that the good deed, he says, offsets that sin. Yes. Yes.
Say: The One who created the heavens and the earth from nothing, who feeds and is not fed — other than Allah shall I take someone as friend? His saying this: that there is no god but Him, that the heavens and the earth and what is between them can only be created from nothing by strength and power, that power belongs to Allah alone, that Allah gives life to all His creatures, feeding them, giving them drink and nourishing them, that He alone needs nothing, that He neither eats nor drinks, and is nourished by no one, and at the same time — shall he take as friend someone other than the One who needs no created being?
Yes.
The seven heavens.
Surrounded by the Throne of Allah, the Throne of Allah, and the Throne of Allah, he says, and on the Throne of Allah the angels who make dhikr — everything there is was created by our Lord; to that Allah besides whom there is no other creator, we submit. Because He is our Owner. Yes. So we have such an Owner, we have such a Lord, who is merciful. He feeds us, gives us drink. And asks nothing of us. Only: know Me. As proof that people know Me, He says, do what I say. Do what I say. I will offer you the bliss of an eternal life, He says. Why does He offer this? Allah Almighty willed to be known through man.
He left man free in his will, and as man, by his own wish and desire, comes to know his Lord, Allah Almighty, needing nothing at all, grants people the abodes of bliss. In that case, will we not use our minds? Will we not feel ashamed before our Lord? Before so many rewards, how could we follow your nafs and Satan's footsteps, and on our Lord's so beautiful promises turn our backs? Where is your will? Where is your strength? Where is your passionate love, your love for your Lord?
So see to it that you carry out Allah's commands, so that, in the swamp of this passing, perishable world, you are not deceived by the rose gardens that have bloomed there, plunge into that flower garden and destroy yourself in that swamp.
At the same time, other than the One who needs no created being, shall I take as friend? That those you worship as gods, which do you no good, were created by the One who made the universe from nothing, by Allah — when will you grasp that?
Say: I was commanded to be the first of the Muslims. And: never be of the polytheists, I was told. O man, if today you envy the life of the unbelievers, if you envy their immoral and shameless way of living, in that case, before every kind of ailment and filth of the nafs, these people who think they are living, who imprison themselves in a shirt of fire — envying them, never worship what they worship. Never call their ways a way. Yes. Do not call it a way. Say: I was commanded to be the first of the Muslims.
And: never be of the polytheists, I was told. When Allah Almighty willed to create people from nothing, to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) He gave of His light. He gave the Prophet of His light. Then, by His giving him of His spirit, to be the first of created beings and the first of people — that honour he attained. In this respect he became ve mâ erselnâke illâ rahmeten li'l-âlemîn. And to be a mercy to the worlds, obeying Allah's commands to the letter is necessary. And when he obeys Allah's commands to the letter, he becomes a Muslim, and being the first created, he becomes the first of the Muslims.
The prophets, too, are the first created Muslims. They were created from the spirit of Muhammad. Since the spirits of the prophets were created before their own peoples, in relation to the created people, the prophets too are in the position of the first created Muslims. Yes. The firsts created from the spirit of the Prophet are the prophets. That is why he says: we are the first of Islam. From their spirits, the spirits of their peoples were created. In this respect they are the elders and (?) of their peoples.
His saying, I was commanded to be the first of the Muslims, means that Allah Almighty Himself trained the Prophet (peace be upon him) and, in the measure of His own will, brought him up. Therefore the Prophet (peace be upon him) is free of the polytheists and the unbelievers. My Lord educated me, and educated me well. With this hadith he tells us that he was raised by his Lord. It is made known that he was raised by our Lord.
