Oh you believers! Do not declare things as forbidden (for yourself) that Allah has made permissible, and do not transgress the boundaries. Allah does not like those who transgress the boundaries.

Tafsir

They narrate the revelation of this verse as follows. One day the Prophet (PBUH) was talking about the Day of Judgment and the Hereafter. Under the influence of this conversation, some of the Companions, such as Ali ibn Masud and Miqdad, gathered in the house of Uthman ibn Mazun and decided among themselves not to approach their women, to wear old clothes, to fast during the day, not to eat food such as meat and fat, not to sleep at night and to spend their lives in worship. The Prophet (PBUH), who was aware of their behavior, came to them and said to them. I have not been commanded such a form of servitude. Your souls, which Allah has entrusted to you, have a right over you. Keep your fast and break your fast. I fast and break my fast, I eat meat and fat, and I go to my wives who are my halal. He says, 'Whoever leaves my path is not one of us. They say that these eighty-seventh and eighty-eighth verses were revealed upon this. Even though the Holy Qur'an was addressed to that time, there will always be such people and Allah is warning such people.

(O you who believe. Do not make unlawful to your own souls that which Allah has made lawful for you. Allah knows what the people He has created are capable of doing, how they will live and what they will need, so He has declared the clean and halal food and drink. In this respect, if people forbid their own souls certain foods that Allah has made lawful for them, at some point they are rebelling against Allah and, God forbid, they may even become disbelievers.

Do not transgress the limits set by Allah, for Allah does not love those who transgress. The limits set by Allah are His commands and prohibitions. Whoever transgresses these commands and prohibitions has violated the laws that Allah has made known to mankind, and Allah will punish such people both in this world and in the Hereafter.

What is said in the video

The good and pure things that Allah has made lawful for you, do not make unlawful for yourselves, and do not transgress. Allah does not love the transgressors. They describe the revelation of these verses as follows. This is one verse, of course. One day the Prophet (peace be upon him) speaks about the Day of Judgment and the Hereafter. Influenced by this talk, some Companions such as Ali, Ibn Mas'ud and Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with them) gather in the house of Uthman ibn Maz'un, with thoughts of not approaching their wives, of wearing old clothes, of fasting by day and not eating foods such as meat and fat, of not sleeping at night and of spending their lives in worship, and they make a decision among themselves.

Yes. Learning of this behaviour of theirs, the Prophet (peace be upon him) comes to them and says to them: I have not been commanded with such a way of servitude. Your selves, which Allah has given you as a trust, have a right over you. Your bodies have a right. Fast, and also break your fast. I fast and I also break my fast, I eat meat and fat too, and I go to my wives who are lawful to me. Whoever departs from my way is not of me, he says. So, they say, verses 87 and 88 were revealed upon this. Although the Quran addressed that time, since such people will appear in every age, Allah gives such people a warning.

O you who believe! The pure things Allah has made lawful for you, do not yourselves make unlawful for yourselves, He says; since Allah knows what the people He created can do, and how they will live and what they will need, He has made known the food and drink that is pure and lawful. In this respect, if people make unlawful for their own selves some foods Allah has made lawful for them, at some point they come into a state of rebellion against Allah, into that state; and, Allah forbid, a person may even go as far as doubt. That is: I told you, eat these things. I made them pure. And you say: I don't do what you said.

I don't eat that either. That is, a person has gone into a kind of rebellion against Him, Allah protect us. Yes. Do not transgress the limits Allah has set, He says. Those are the limits our Lord has set. For Allah does not love those who transgress the limits. Whoever transgresses Allah's limits, they have perished. And those who push the limits, Allah Almighty, giving them two or three calamities a year, exposes them to many calamities. What does He do? With tsunami waves, with floods, with fires, and so on, with hurricanes, with tornadoes, He rains every kind of disaster down on them. So that he may not say tomorrow, on the Day of Judgment: I was in pleasure and enjoyment.

My life was very good too. I was in no state to remember You. Had You given me hardship and pain, I would have remembered You. Because the Prophet (peace be upon him) came as a mercy to the worlds, Allah Almighty lifted destruction for his sake. He also asked for the calamities to be lifted. It will be this much, He said.

By giving them these calamities, the existence of My Being I will prove to them, He said. Yes. Even so, they attribute these events to what they call nature, to natural events. They can't even say 'tabiat'; they say 'doğa', 'doğa' gives birth; that is, nature itself invents.
