Among people, you will find that Jews and the ones who associate partners (to Allah) are the ones who are the harshest in enmity towards believers. And amongst them, you will find that the ones who say “we are Christians” are the closest ones in affection towards believers. This is because among them, there are monks and priests who do not show arrogance.
Tafsir
The worst enemies of those who believe in Allah and His Messenger are the Jews and the polytheists. It is as if they are competing with each other in pride and arrogance. Allah does not love those who are proud and arrogant. People with these traits are the ones who cannot digest Allah's unity, His greatness and His unity as a single power. That is why the Jewish people considered themselves the sons of Allah. They are a people cursed by Allah because of their many evil traits. That is why these people are the worst enemies of Allah and the people who believe in Allah.
So are polytheists and polytheists. These are the people who, in the lusts of their souls, fall prey to all the temptations that Shaytan gives them and commit all kinds of evil deeds. People who worship Allah's creatures and ascribe shirk to Allah, and who believe in what their minds have conceived and pursue it as if it were the truth. They are bitter enemies of the people of faith.
Among them you will find Christians in terms of love for those who believe, and Allah, Who created all human beings, has written their destiny for them as their destiny. Allah, who knows who and how they are, says in His verse (We have divided you into tribes so that you may be quickly recognized) that Christians are closer to Islam than Jews and polytheists. Although Christians, out of their enmity to Islam, have organized wars every ten years with their crusading armies in order to eradicate Islam, there have been many more Christians who have become Muslims than Jews and polytheists.
The Qur'an addresses all times. In the time of the Prophet (PBUH), he rescued some Muslims from the oppression of the polytheists and sent them to Abyssinia. At that time, they were welcomed with respect by Najashi, the king of Abyssinia, and Jafari Tayyar, the uncle son of the Prophet (SAW), explained Islam to Najashi. By explaining Islam to Najashi, they caused them to convert to Islam.
Allah (swt) says that among these two groups of Jews and polytheists you will find those who are more moderate to Islam and among them you will find more Muslims than Christians.
The monks and priests among them know the truth. Because they cannot reveal themselves, they appear to be Christians. But in fact there are people among them who are Muslims. They are not arrogant and proud like other people.

Among people, toward those who believe, you will find the most intense in enmity to be the Jews and those who associate partners, it says, and Allah Almighty knows well among the people.

Mushrik, as we all say, as I know, as we keep explaining, means idolaters. Yes. These two groups are people who seem to compete with each other in pride, arrogance and self-exaltation. Yes. Those who see themselves as superhuman. Those who declare themselves Allah's close ones. Those who say: The torment of Hell will not touch us for more than three days. Even if it is three days — if a thousand years here are like one day of the Hereafter, consenting to three thousand years there, to that fire, to that torment, and living in the world as they wish, by the desires of the nafs, without fearing Allah, doing everything by their own reason for the gain of their worldly affairs — within the arrogance and pride of such people, can you imagine their irresponsibility toward Allah Almighty?
Toward their Creator. Yes.
Allah does not love the arrogant and those in pride and conceit. People with these traits are people who cannot accept Allah's oneness, His majesty and that He is the one single power. That is why the Jewish people regarded themselves as the sons of Allah. And because of many evil traits, this people is a people cursed by Allah. That is why these people, toward Allah and toward people who say Allah and believe, are the most intense in enmity.
The polytheist men and women are the same. They too, in the unruliness of their nafs, carried away by all the (?) that Satan gives them, are people who commit every kind of evil. People who worship what Allah created and associate partners with Allah, who, believing in what their minds (?), are dragged along chasing it as if it were truth — they too are merciless enemies of the people of faith. Among them you will find the Christians, in love toward those who believe. With this verse — Allah, who created all people, wrote their wishes for them as destiny. He who knows who is how — in the verse where He says 'We you peoples and peoples, (?) so that you are quickly recognized' — with that verse He declares that, of the Jews and the polytheists, those closer to Islam are the Christians.
Although the Christians, out of their enmity toward Islam, with crusader armies waged war every ten years to wipe out Islam, as a nation, among the Christians far more than among Jews and polytheists have become Muslim. Yes.
The Holy Quran addresses all times. In the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) too, he sent some Muslims to Abyssinia, saving them from the oppression of the polytheists. They were then received with respect by the Abyssinian King Negus, and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) cousin, Ja'far al-Tayyar, by explaining Islam to the Negus, became the cause of their becoming Muslim. So Allah Almighty declares: of these two groups, the Jews and polytheists, into Islam more moderate toward Islam, and among them, more of the Christians you will see becoming Muslim. The monks and priests among them know the truth.
