Oh you believers! Do not take Jews and Christians as close friends since they are close friends of each other. Those who take them as close friends belong to them. Verily, those people who continue with oppression do not desire to enter the path of Allah.
Tafsir
People of faith cannot associate with people of disbelief. This is because the behavior and actions of the people of disbelief are immoral, while the people of faith are people who observe morality and decency. Whoever envies the Jews and Christians and the non-Muslims, it is because they long for the lives of the non-Muslims. The condition of such people shows the weakness of their faith. If such people keep them as friends and associate with them, God forbid, they will lose their faith. For Jews and Christians are each other's friends. Unless a believer is like them, they will not keep a believer as a friend.
(Verily, the community of wrongdoers do not want to enter the path of Allah's guidance.) People who turn their backs on the Prophets and Books of Allah (swt) become cruel and unjust to their own souls by pursuing the desires of their own souls and deifying their own souls. Allah (swt) calls all people to guidance and salvation, but if a person follows the desires of his ego and follows the footsteps of Shaytan, such people will not be guided because they have turned their backs on the paths of guidance and salvation that Allah (swt) has shown them, and because they follow their ego and Shaytan.
People who think they have a long life expectancy see the time to come as centuries. Finally, at the end of his life, when he realizes that time passes like seconds, it is too late. He has passed away before he could repent. Such people, having spent their lives in a state of delusion and turning their backs on the paths of guidance that Allah calls to salvation, end up in the abode of eternal torment without ever attaining Allah's guidance.
What is said in the video
O you who believe — first, let us read verse 51 from the Diyanet's book. These are one of the verses explained wrongly. O you who believe, do not take the Jews and Christians as friends. How beautifully Allah Almighty says it. What did I explain to you a moment ago? What did I say? We said: our friend is ourselves. And we said: it is Allah. We said: unless we make concessions to them, they will never come close to us, we said. So Allah Almighty says: do not take the Jews and Christians as friends. They are not our friends either. And we are not their friends. Yes. Our friend is Allah alone and those who are Muslims.
The believers.
O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and Christians as friends. For they are friends of one another. They take one another's side. Isn't that so? As I explained about human rights. Whoever among you takes them as friends is one of them. Indeed Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people, it says. Do you believe it? That this verse (?) — indeed Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people, it says.
Do you believe it? Did the Holy Quran come as a mercy to the worlds? Well then, does it not guide the wrongdoing people?
So now, according to this — this verse, according to this translation, we will say; not according to the verse, God forbid, according to the translation. If the Quran does not guide the wrongdoing people — and that is what it says: indeed Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. The Quran came to guide the worlds — the worlds. If it does not guide the wrongdoing people, it means: even if you abide by it, I will not accept your abiding by it. That's one. Those who are wrongdoers never again have the right to repent — that's two. That's how absurdly they have explained it. Absurdly.
It will be followed from there. What does it say? O you who believe, do not take the Jews and Christians as friends. For they are friends of one another. Whoever among you takes them as friends is one of them. Indeed, communities that persist in wrongdoing cannot attain Allah's guidance. Look at the meaning of the verse. What is the meaning of the verse? Indeed, communities that persist in wrongdoing cannot attain Allah's guidance. If he gives that up, repents and asks forgiveness, (?) mercy. But what does it say here? Here it says: indeed Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. Well, what is this?
Does this guide? Did this Holy Quran not come to all people? It guides. Well, are you not now belying your own word yourself? Yes. Those who persist in wrongdoing, who persist, cannot attain Allah's guidance.
So, going by verses written like this, people say: that was abrogated by this, this was abrogated by that, that was taken out of there, this came here, went — like this, by their own heads, at present there are 492 errors.
492 explained wrongly. In fifty or sixty there are errors that can carry two meanings. In the sense I understand, as a higher order, though,
I'd say it is like this, it comes to that meaning. But they do not use it in that sense. They use it in a wrong sense. They use it in the sense they themselves gave it here. So we add words there. Words — with words we correct them. There are 670 like this. We do not take them. We correct them. Yes. For example it says: the spirit and the angels, its measure in 50,000 years, ascend to the presence. Not 'to His presence'. Its measure — the spirit and the angels. That is, Gabriel, it says. Now it has made the spirit Gabriel. Yet it used to say — it says the spirit is Allah anyway. It is written there. I told you.
In the verse. And here it calls the spirit Gabriel. Now, is the spirit Allah or Gabriel? They have mixed it up anyway. Yet the meaning of the verse is not like that. The spirit and the angels ascend on a day whose measure is fifty thousand days. Once in fifty thousand days. What is it? Once in fifty thousand days, a disaster. That is, the world was ruined. Destroyed. It is in fifty thousand days.
The world has already gone through seven (?). Now we are in a realm where people live last. So there is very little time left to fifty thousand years — centuries. We won't say centuries. There is a little more than a century. Because again these fifty thousand years will be completed. Then the Last Hour Allah Almighty promised will break out. The mountains will be thrown about like carded cotton. The earth will hurl out what is inside it. The sea will swell, the sky will flow like molten metal; in the hereafter, when the trumpet is blown, when the trumpet is blown again, (?) everyone will hear, no one will (?) from it, it says.
With the mountains gone from their places, the earth completely level, it says. With the mountains gone from their places, the earth completely level, it will be brought to the place of gathering. The place of gathering — since we (?) in the world — in the presence of our Lord, at the Great Court, we will be called to account. Yes.
O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and Christians as friends, for they are friends of one another. Whoever among you takes them as friends is one of them.
Once upon a time, a person says to a person — I am a witness to this — I love you very much, he says.
That person says: oh, stop, don't love me.
Why? There must be a side of me that resembles you, since you love me, he says. Because the person who said 'I love you very much' was of leftist ideas.
And the other was a dervish who had entirely given himself to Allah. This person, on the Hajj: I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him). You will not leave here. You will stay here, he said. I am not coming, he said. You go to Turkey, he said.
Before we had even left, he passed away there. Such a (?).
What does he say? Oh, don't love me. Why? There is a side of me that resembles you, since you love me, he says. How beautiful. And Allah Almighty also says in this verse: whoever resembles them is like them. And this person was under the influence of this verse, so he says: there is a side of me that resembles you. There is that bad side of me, he says, since you love me. Yes. If a Muslim today envies the Jew and the Christian, the non-Muslim, he too is like them, it says — and are there not those who envy? Are there not those who envy their way of life? Now, in many of His verses Allah Almighty says: is there no one who enters the religion of Islam?
Is there no one who uses his mind? Is there no one who reflects? He says this. My friend, what are we saying now? Within Islam, are there not those who imitate the Christians? Are there not those who (?) repentance to them? Are there not those who strip stark naked and, (?), turn their backs on the religion of Islam — are there not? Are there not those who gather without saying halal or haram? Are there not, are there not? Yes, are there not those who envy them? It is very hard. May Allah make our task easy; our task is hard.
People who believe cannot get along with the people of unbelief. It is not possible.
It is not possible to get along with them. Because the conduct, manners and talk of the people of unbelief are indecent.
Let me give an example. Once upon a time I was running a shoe-sole factory. An Armenian came and said: would you do this job for me? The Prophet also lived side by side with the Jews. He would have me make (?); he would bring his mould and we would press, we said. And we will make the soles for you, we said.
This man had in fact taken the moulds from someone else by trickery. I knew nothing of the trickery. He presents them to me as his own moulds. He brings them — how should I know? The man brings me the mould. My friend, when we began pressing the moulds, the soles, from the very first day they began with indecency. That is, supposedly to hunt me. The things they propose! When a harsh answer came from us, one said to another: he is not of our understanding, he said. Let's look among our own, he said. And then we saw — after they left, a man came to me. He was looking at me like this. And I said: what is it, brother?
Is something wrong? Where did you get the moulds? he said. So-and-so brought them to me. To have the moulds pressed here. He said: Hajji brother, these moulds are mine. They may be yours, I said. I am not saying I don't believe you either, I said. But if I give you these moulds now and the man comes and asks me for his moulds, what will I say to that man? I said. Besides, how do I know these moulds are really yours? I said. Come, I said, sit a while, let me offer you a tea, in my factory. Let me call the man here, I said; talk with him, take them and leave here, I said, with the moulds. He said: this man told me such and such, like this, he said. I have my own factory, he said.
And we gave him this (?), we said. These soles being pressed are in my charge, that is, the thing has been taken — a mould taken under patent; he is obliged to give it to me, he says. He started selling it himself, he says. He was going to start selling. Hardly a day or two passed. Sorry, a day or two passed. He had started selling himself. The things. The soles. Here, he said. This man cheated me, he said. Upon this, the man came too. They started talking, blah blah blah blah blah. I said: look, brother. This place, I said, is (?), not a place for fighting. Take your moulds. Please leave this place.
Yes. That is why you cannot do business with them either. To hunt you, they try to stir up your carnal feelings. Carnal feelings.
They are four-legged creatures roaming the earth, taghuts.
So people who believe cannot get along with the people of unbelief. Because the conduct, manners and talk of the people of unbelief are indecent.
The people of faith, however, are people who observe morals and decency. And if he envies the Jews and Christians, those who are non-Muslims, the conduct and manners of those who envy stem from their longing for the lives of non-Muslims. So he too resembles them. (?) Allah Almighty says so. He too is like them, He says.
Yes. If such people take them as friends and are with them, God forbid, they will lose their faith too. Because the Jews and Christians are friends of one another. Unless a person of faith resembles them, they do not take a person of faith as a friend.
Indeed, the wrongdoing people cannot attain Allah's guidance. Yes, now let me say this: there are many words to be said here. That is, there are many words to be said.
There are remarks that would need further explaining.
Since I am with you for about two hours, I am reading and moving on to fill the time now. In this respect, I'm thinking as I speak: should we leave this for the next lesson, or go on explaining it a bit? (?) useful. Let's finish this.
The state of such people shows the weakness of their faith. Had such people not had weak faith, they would not envy that Jew and Christian, their way of life. He would not (?) the desires of the nafs. If you look at the states of these people who envy the Jews and Christians or non-Muslims, they never pray, never fast, never give zakat. (?) among people like this, if there are some who pray, fast and give zakat — even if there are, they correspond to this hadith: If the worship you do does not keep (?) from evil, it is a burden to you. That is, they do these things out of habit — out of habit. But their wishes and desires, their hearts are with them.
Whenever the chance comes their way, they at once do the same things those people do. And Allah Almighty creates acts and events according to their wishes and desires. And people prove what kind of person they are. If such people take them as friends and are with them, God forbid, they will lose their faith too. Well, what happens? A notebook, a clean page — erase, erase, erase. It becomes a pitch-black notebook. And erasing and erasing, the surface of this notebook, my friend, its (?) tear. It is exposed, it wears thin, it tears. Faith is like this too. If you (?) what Allah says, if you are always with your nafs, your Satan, the world, if you turn your back, my friend, on what Allah says, a day will come when you will say: what did I find in this? Through their (?) of life — unaware of Allah, unaware of His Book, of His Messenger.
You will go on in spite of them. So you have lost your faith too. May Allah protect us. Yes.
Because the Jews and Christians are friends of one another. Allah Almighty (?) too. Because He is the Creator; the characters He gave, what they desired, my friend, what they desired with their partial free will — since Allah Almighty gave them the destinies they intended, our Lord knows what they are. They are friends of one another, He says. Unless a person of faith resembles them, they do not take a person of faith as a friend. His verses say it too. Unless you make concessions to them, they will never be of you, it says. Indeed, the wrongdoing people cannot attain Allah's guidance. Yes, can any community that persists in wrongdoing, whoever it is, find guidance unless it repents and asks forgiveness?
As long as he continues like that, as long as he does not reform his nafs, as long as he enjoys what he does and never gives up what he does — can such people, who wrong their own nafs, find guidance? But suppose he does not persist in wrongdoing. He knows that what he did is bad, and finally he knows that he was in a state of the age of ignorance. If he turns to Allah Almighty and asks for pardon and forgiveness, then our Lord's door of pardon and forgiveness opens for him.
People who turn their backs on Allah Almighty's prophets and books, running after the desires of their own nafs, deifying their nafs, become oppressive and wrongdoers towards their own nafs. Allah Almighty, however — although He calls all people to guidance and salvation, look, all people. What did we say? The Quran came to all the worlds. He calls them to guidance and salvation. Not as that one says, mind you. What does it say? (?) What does it say? In verse 49. Allah only wants to bring part of their sins as a calamity upon their heads, it says. May Allah protect us. There is no such thing. If it had been so, if it had been so, Allah Almighty would not have sent these verses to them, my friend.
People who turn their backs, running after the desires of their own nafs, prepare a god of their nafs and become oppressive and wrongdoers towards their own nafs. Although Allah Almighty calls all people to guidance and salvation, if a person follows the desire of his own nafs and follows Satan's trail, such people, because they turn their backs on the guidance and paths of salvation Allah has shown, because they run after their nafs and Satan, cannot attain guidance. As long as he follows his own carnal feelings. Otherwise Allah Almighty calls people to guidance, calls them to salvation. And in this case, if people, by their own will, turn their backs on Allah Almighty, then of course, as long as they continue on this path, they cannot attain guidance.
People who think their life is long — and life seems very long to people, it seems as if it will never end, and Satan deceives man this way, and the nafs deceives him the same way. The times to come seem like a very long time, but if you look back at the past, it is like one breath.
People who think their life is long see the times to come as centuries. Finally, at the end of their life, when they realise that time passed like seconds, it is already too late. He has passed from this world without repenting. Such people, using up their lives in delusion, when they turn their backs on the paths of guidance to which Allah calls for salvation, without attaining Allah's guidance, go to the abode of eternal punishment — 'make it your dwelling', they were told. May Allah protect us. Yes.
