“Make me be mentioned as truthful in the words of the latter ones.”

Tafsir

Allah accepted this prayer of Hadrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him). For this reason, all nations have paid homage to Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Some nations even wanted to protect Hadrat Ibrahim 'alaihis-salâm' and said that he was a Nazarene. And some nations said that he is a Jew.

Allah (swt) answers them with His verse. Abraham is neither a Nazarene nor a Jew. He has said that it is Islam, which is Hanif on the path of Sırat-ı mustaqim.

Hadrat Ibrahim 'alaihis-salâm' requested from Allah (swt) that he be remembered among the nations that would come after him, that is, that he be remembered with goodness. Therefore, all the nations remembered Hadrat Ibrahim 'alaihis-salâm' and showed their respect and love for him. Muslims also remember Hazrat Ibrahim (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while sitting in tahiyyat in their five daily prayers.

Because at Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 84, we left off. We continue. Abraham (peace be upon him) makes a prayer to Allah Almighty. Grant me to be remembered well among those who come after me, he says. That is, he is entreating Allah Almighty. O Lord, may the people who come later remember me too, remember me well — so he prays. And so, when Allah Almighty sent the Prophet the prayer, as a gift from the Mi'raj to Muslims, or to people, in the tahiyyat, Allahümme sallallahu aleyhi ve sellem — by reciting these blessed words we send blessings and peace to him too. Grant me to be remembered well among those who come after me, he says.

If a prophet prays to Allah Almighty, would Allah turn his prayer away? Allah Almighty accepted this prayer of Abraham (peace be upon him). Yes. For this reason all communities have shown reverence to Abraham (peace be upon him). Some communities even go so far as to say that Abraham was a Jew; another says he was a Christian. Some say he was (?). That is, they try to divide him up among themselves. Allah Almighty says this: Indeed, some communities wanted to claim Abraham (peace be upon him) for themselves. Hence: he is a Christian. Some communities also said he is a Jew. Allah Almighty answers them with His verse.

Abraham was neither a Christian nor a Jew. He is a Hanif upon the straight path, a Muslim, He declared. That is, Hanif means one who from a young age never clung to idols, who directly knows that he was created by a Lord. Let me tell you something sincerely. Even as a child, when I began to understand myself, as a child, at about four years old or so,

that there is one Allah who created the worlds, that He has no spouse or partner, that child knew at that young age. We are Hanifs. We never worshipped anything. In his mind. Well, once of age, faith grows stronger anyway, and reward and sin start to count for a person. I even remember this. I was about four. I said: who is Azrael to take my life? he would say. Yes. He rejoiced in Allah Almighty that much.

Allah Almighty answers them with His verse. Abraham is neither a Christian nor a Jew. He is a Hanif upon the straight path, a Muslim, He declared. Abraham (peace be upon him), that among the communities after him he too would be remembered, that is, known for goodness, asked of Allah Almighty as his wish. For this reason all communities, just as they remember Abraham (peace be upon him), have shown him reverence and love. Muslims too, when reciting the tahiyyat in their five daily prayers, remember Abraham (peace be upon him) and send blessings and peace upon him. Yes.
