How they appoint you as a judge, although the Torah, in which Allah’s ruling is present, is with them and how they turn away and leave after this. They are not among the believers.

Tafsir

O Messenger! If they were believers, they would have judged by the Torah which they have with them, while the same judgments are written in it. They did not believe in the Book in their hands so that they may believe in you.

Because the two Jews who committed adultery were well-remembered people, they committed a crime for which the punishment in the Torah was stoning, and because they valued people more than Allah, they ignored the Torah's judgment and came to the Prophet (pbuh) and asked him to give them a lenient punishment, so as not to do what Allah said. After the Prophet (SAW) made them confess to the punishment of stoning, they turned their backs and left.

If they were believers, they would have decided between them according to the Torah which they had with them, and they would not have made you an arbitrator. Knowing that Allah's laws do not change, they asked you to decide in their favor and give them a record against Allah. When the decision was not in their favor, they recognized neither Allah, nor the Prophet, nor the Book. They turned their backs and left. These are people of disbelief, not believers.

What is said in the video

We can begin our lesson. Verse 43 of Surah Al-Ma'idah. Allah Almighty created people long before. Where? In the realm of Lahut. That is, where our spirits were created. Our first creation. As the verse says, you know: We return you to the form of your first creation. Allah Almighty's word is both outward and inward. It addresses both the outward and the inward. As we always say, it is useful to remind of it here too. When He says the form of the first creation, Allah Almighty actually means the form in which our spirit was created in the realm of spirits, the realm of the heart, Allah Almighty means. Sir, spirit, nafs and life (?).

We return you to the form of your first creation. That is, every soul will taste death, the inheritance of the heavens and the earth will remain to Allah. Again, every soul will taste death, and your return will be to Me. So, separating from the (?) of the body, we will take spirit, nafs and life and return to our Lord. In the world too, when He says the form of the first creation, Allah Almighty — our bodies, while in childhood, created weak and powerless, in the course of time grow strong and then again toward weakness, that is, toward old age — when we turn to old age, we turn again toward weakness.

But when He says We return you to the form of your first creation, the real meaning is the first meaning I mentioned. For example, if we were to mean the second meaning, apart from the first meaning, then to Allah Almighty's word we would, relatively, be ascribing a deficiency. Like this: when He says We return you to the form of your first creation — there are those who die young and strong, before growing old. They were not returned to the form of the first creation; they went strong. So the real meaning is: We return you to the form of your first creation, that is, every soul will taste death, and according to the (?) word, the first creation — as spirit, nafs and life you will return to Me, He says.

Yes. In this case, with the form of the first creation, Allah Almighty made a covenant with us. In that address Elestü bi-Rabbiküm He gave us the aims of our wishes and desires as destiny. Now in this case, Allah Almighty knows what every soul will do. Because He programmed these worlds and wrote people's resolve and desires as their aims, as destiny for them. And Allah Almighty gave those characters to those people too. In this case, because people are unaware of the realm of the hereafter, they attach everything to the world. In the world it happened like this, in the world it happened like that, in the world he gave his word, he is ignorant, sir, (?).

Whereas these are proving this verse. People's talk in this way: did you think We would know, without you proving what kind of person you are? So what is our proof? Those characters given to us, and our proving in our Lord's hands what kind of person we are. In this case, in this case. Why did we open this up so much? We gave you a reminder. In the Torah, Allah Almighty writes what punishment those who commit adultery will receive. In this case, in this 43rd verse Allah Almighty already informs us. What does He say? While they have with them the Torah, in which is Allah's ruling, how do they make you the judge and then turn away after that and leave?

They are believing people — not, He says. They are not. In this case, although Allah Almighty knows all our characters, people, in the realm of the hereafter, that we made a covenant with our Lord, sir, only because they do not listen to Allah's commands, because they do not value them, they come; in their own book, (?) although stoning is written, to the Prophet (peace be upon him) they come and ask him to act as judge. These people are (?) in the world. They have money and wealth. Sir, they have nobility. What kind of nobility that is.

Lineage, they say. If he acquits you, they say, accept it. If he says no — stoning — they say, do not listen, they say. They come to the Messenger of Allah. They appoint the Messenger of Allah as judge. And the Prophet (peace be upon him) says it is written in your book. First he says this: will you be content with the view I give, he says. Yes, they say. Then it is written in your book too, (?). (?) must be stoned, he says, and they turn their backs and leave. They say the verse was revealed about this. Yes. Yet the verses continue until the Day of Judgment. So that the verses can be understood better, our Lord — causes, that is, people creating causes and carrying out events, and Allah Almighty creating those events from causes, according to people's wishes and desires, according to the actual deeds they will do, Allah Almighty creating the events — so in this case, through the deeds people have done of their own wishes and desires, so that events may be understood better, Allah Almighty makes His verses known to people.

Yes. What does He say now? While the Torah, in which is Allah's ruling, is with them, how do they make you the judge and then turn away after that and leave? They are not believing people, He says. If they had believed, they would not have committed that adultery anyway. If they had believed, their rulings would be according to the books in their homes. Now we say if they had believed, but the matter goes round and round and again, on the heads of people who say I am Muslim, (?). Today morality has become so corrupt that, I estimate, over 60 percent, more than 70 percent of people are in a state of adultery.

Both married men and married women. Morality has become this corrupt. Especially in big places, you can't tell whose hand is in whose pocket. Yes. In this case, if Allah Almighty says of those who commit adultery while it is written in their own book, who turn away from their own book, that is, those who do not heed our Lord's command, that they are not believing people — then if Muslims, as Islam, also commit adultery in this way, are the verses only for those people who hold the Torah, brother? Aren't the same commands in the Quran too? Aren't the commands of the Torah in the Quran? In this case, are those who act this way believing people, I wonder?

Or are they not?

If he had believed, he would fear Allah and not do this. Look what Allah Almighty says. Do not obey the command written in that Torah. Making the Messenger of Allah judge despite what is written in the Torah in their hands, sir, if He says of them in this way that they are not believing people, if Muslims committed the same crime, according to Allah Almighty's verse these would have to be stoned. Those who commit this must obey it. They must accept this stoning.

They must accept stoning.

That is why when we read the verses and pass over them, saying this belongs to them, it was narrated like this — isn't it the same word of Allah for us? Is there another god besides Allah, then? That god says this to them but gives us this freedom? Allah forbid. Everyone will heed Allah's verses. When immorality reached its peak, Allah Almighty destroyed many towns.

And now calamities are pouring down. Calamities.

When We send a calamity on a town, He says, there the good or the bad, He says, We (?).

In this case, because of the bad deeds people have done, some poor souls are harmed too.

Only if one is of strong faith, surrenders to Allah, becomes one of His friends — Allah Almighty — such people who will also command the good, just as the people of (?) met calamity and their forms were turned into swine and apes, into apes, before the calamity came, as their rabbis and hafizes warned them, these people too will warn that town; when Allah Almighty sends calamity on those people, He will take such people out of there, will separate them. (?) Yes. Here we see it. Some events are appearing.

In this case, as we always say, the world does not have much life left.

Let's say, even though we may not see the Day of Judgment come for the world, surely today the Day of Judgment will break over our own heads. That is, we will taste death. That is a Day of Judgment too.

When (?) will come about is not known. In this case, that we, ready for death at every moment, go before Allah Almighty's presence with a clear forehead and meet our Lord — may Allah Almighty grant this to the whole community of Muhammad, and may Allah grant that we keep our affairs likewise with a clear forehead before Allah Almighty, in a good way. I mean, we will be conscious. We will know our steps. We will weigh what we say. Sir, we will refrain from deeds Allah Almighty is not pleased with and does not want, we will (?). However much our nafs desires, we will not submit to the whims of our nafs.

Yes. Let us read the verse once more and read our commentary. While the Torah, in which is Allah's ruling, is with them, how do they make you judge and... then after that turn away and leave? They are not believing people, He says. O My Beloved! If they were believing people — in the Torah they have with them the same rulings were written. They would have judged by it. Just as they do not believe the book in their homes, they will not believe you either. Yes.

They will not believe you either.

(?) because the Jews were esteemed persons, for committing the crime whose punishment in the ruling of the Torah in their hands is stoning, because of that; because they value people more than Allah — although Allah's verse is before them, they value people more. These are esteemed persons. Look at that esteem. What esteemed people. Yes.

Because they value people more than Allah, so as not to do what Allah says, disregarding the ruling of the Torah in their homes, the state's ruling, they come to the Prophet and ask him to give a light punishment. As if the Prophet had the aim of a ruling being given outside Allah's ruling — look at these people's minds. They want him to give a lighter punishment. And then they will put the blame on the Prophet. The envoy You sent, we obeyed him, Your envoy ruled this way, they will say. Leave aside the Prophet, even a friend of Allah would not compromise on Allah's verses. Yes.

And the Prophet (peace be upon him), after making them confess the punishment of stoning themselves — they turned back to their own reasoning and left.

I will rule according to the book in your homes, he says. Do you accept the decision? We accept. What is written in your book, he says. It is written like this, like this, they say. He makes them confess with their own words. The punishment I would give you was this too, he says. We don't believe, and they pass on and leave. So if these were believing people, they would decide between them according to the ruling of the Torah they have with them. They would not have made you judge, says Allah Almighty. Yes. Even knowing that Allah's laws do not change, even knowing full well that Allah's laws do not change, these people still, with their tiny minds, try to look for a way out.

Just as a mouse caught in a trap, with its teeth, gnawing at those irons, as if it will gnaw through the iron and escape. It will try to escape from that trap. And these too, inside this trap, like that squeezed mouse caught in a trap, look for a way out according to their own nafs. Just surrender. (?) you will return to your Lord sooner or later. So what? When apologizing you will feel a little pain, when surrendering you will feel a little pain, but at the end of the pain you will (?). Why will you (?)? Yes, our Lord truly created us deficient, we followed our nafs, we did evil; in return I bowed to my Lord's command, I gladly sacrificed my life to my Lord.

And Allah Almighty says: yes, because you, the most precious living being, came consenting to My command, I have forgiven you too, He says. (?) But you will remain (?). What will it come to if you live 3–5 hours longer in the world? Again, on returning, in the end you entered an eternal punishment, but you will remain (?). Yes.

So if these were believing people, they would decide between them according to the ruling of the Torah they have with them. They would not have made you judge. Knowing full well that Allah's laws do not change, they wanted you to decide on their side, so that they would have in their hands a proof against Allah, that is, a record — they wanted that. As I said a moment ago, they know those things too. That Allah's law does not change; they think they will play a trick on the Prophet, and the Prophet — these are esteemed persons, you see. They have money too. Sir, they have lineage too. Maybe the Prophet will pity them and they will decide (?).

Then when Allah Almighty calls the Prophet to account, when He calls these to account too, (?) we obeyed the Prophet and acted this way, they will say.

No, our Prophet — even a friend of Allah does not compromise on Allah's verses. Yes, when the decision was not given in their favor, they recognized neither Allah nor the Prophet nor the book. They turned back to their own reasoning and left. These are deniers, they are not believing people. Yes.
