Translation

“For we were equating you with the Lord of the worlds.”

Tafsir

The people in Hell who are unjust to their own souls will say to Iblis and his companions, to the idols they associate with Allah, to those whom they ask for help besides Allah, 'We were equating you with the Lord of the worlds.

The reason why they equate Allah's creations with Allah is that when they made a covenant with Allah, they saw Allah in their likeness and in human form, they could not believe in Allah, they underestimated Him, and they were waiting for the Allah of their own imagination. In this case, they fell prey to Satan's temptation and followed Iblis. Moreover, the temptation given by Iblis was pleasing to the souls of these people. However, Allah (swt) says, "Satan's temptation is ignorant to my servant who knows me". Satan has dragged them into the marshes and torments and fire.

What is said in the video

In verse 98 of Surah Ash-Shu'ara they say the following.

In hell they say: because we held you equal to the Lord of the worlds. With the Lord of the worlds. They do not believe in the Lord of the worlds, yet they hold them equal to the Lord of the worlds. With their own mouths they confess their own guilt. What do they say? Because we held you equal to the Lord of the worlds.

You know, there was the Lord in their imagination who created the worlds, and Allah Almighty says they will not see their Lord, right? This is where the verse comes into view. They hold the Creator of the worlds equal to the Lord in their imagination. The people in hell who were wrongdoers against their own selves, to Iblis and his companions, to their idols that they associated with Allah, to those other than Allah from whom they sought help, will say: we held you equal to the Lord of the worlds. The reason they held Allah's creations equal to Allah is, again, that when they made the covenant with Allah, they saw Allah Almighty as resembling themselves and in human form, and so, unable to believe in Allah and taking Him lightly, they wait for the Allah of their own world of imagination.

In this case, carried away by the temptation Satan gave, they have run after Iblis. Moreover, the temptation Iblis gave was also pleasing to these people's nafs. Yet Allah Almighty says: "For My servant who knows Me, Satan's temptation is foolish." So He declares. Satan, however, has dragged these people into swamps, into torments, into the fire.
