Indeed, We have revealed to you as We revealed to Noah and the Prophets after him. And We have given revelations to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and Asbaat (their progeny), Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron and Solomon. And We have given Psalms (Zaboor) to David.
Tafsir
In order to support the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet and to declare to the people that he was a Prophet sent by Himself, Allah (swt) declares that He gave duties to the Prophets He sent through revelation, and that He gave duties to the last Prophet He sent through revelation and revealed the Holy Qur'an.
By enumerating the names of the Prophets, He proves to people that He has sent them to the people He created on a mission, and that He has always introduced Himself to the people whom He sent to a realm of the unseen, at interconnected times in every era. He has placed the responsibility on the people by leaving them free to decide whether they know Allah or not, that is, whether they recognize Allah (swt) or not. Moreover, the fact that Allah is the only God, that the heavens and the earth are His, that there is no other creator but Him, that He is the sole ruler in His realm, and that He made people understand this by speaking to the Prophets whom He sent to this realm at different times, i.e. by speaking to the Prophets through revelation, proves that there is no other God but Him and that the Prophets sent by Him are true.
And We gave the Psalms to David; We gave the Book to guide people by revelation, to teach them what they do not know. So, O my Messenger, We reveal to you as I revealed to them. Even if people do not believe in you, We are sufficient for you as a witness.
What is said in the video
We have now come to Surah An-Nisa, verse 163. Just as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him, We have revealed to you too. And indeed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Asbat, that is, the descendants, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron and Solomon We revealed. And to David We gave the Psalms, it says.
We are listing the prophets here. Yes, revelation comes to prophets.
Allah Almighty, to support the Prophet's prophethood and to declare to people that he is a prophet sent by His own Self — that to the prophets He sent He gave duties through revelation, and that to the last prophet He sent, the Prophet, He gave duties by revelation and sent down the Holy Quran — this He declares. So He is supporting the Prophet. What does He say? O people, look, He says, at the books in the hands of those peoples: We revealed to Noah, to the prophets after him — to whom? To Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Asbat, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron and Solomon We revealed, He says. What We revealed to them, He says — is it written in those books or not?
It is written. Then is what is written there written in the Quran or not? It is written. Then, He says, the one I have sent, Muhammad (peace be upon him), is My servant, and as the last prophet, as the Seal of the Prophets (Hateme Nebi), he is My messenger whom I sent to you, He says. My messenger. From now on, since all the books before us are in the Holy Quran, all of you, within the religion of Islam, according to the verse inne'd-dîne inda'llâhi'l-İslâm, I gather into one community, He says. Here you are: Muhammad is My messenger. Believe in him as (?). Believe in the Quran. Believe that there is no god but Me.
Not as those absurdities claim — neither is Mary my wife, nor is Jesus my son, nor is David my kin. So, as some peoples say, as the Jews say: we are the sons of Allah, we are those close to Allah. As they said: no fire, no torment will touch us except for three days. You, He says, do not believe such absurdities. Turn to the truth, to the truth.
That is why He lists these prophets here. To support the Prophet.
How much more should Allah Almighty support him? How else — He sends down His verses so that every kind of person can understand. Yes, every kind. And what does He say? We never refrain from giving the example of a mosquito or something greater, He says. That is, to the most ignorant among you and to those of the highest understanding, We will never stop giving examples. We prove Our Self in a way everyone understands, and that the messengers We sent are true, We declare to you, He says. Allah Almighty, to support the Prophet's prophethood and to declare to people that he is a prophet sent by His own Self — that to the prophets He sent He gave, through revelation, duties, and that to the last prophet He sent, the Prophet, by revelation He gave duties and sent down the Holy Quran — this He declares.
By the prophets' names He lists, that He sent them with duties to the people He created, (?) to the people He sent into a world, in every age, at linked times, that He always made His Self known — this He proves to people. In every age, at all times, Allah Almighty, in a way people can understand, in proportion to their mental capacity, has made His Self known to them. Those who are governed by the commands He sent are upon the natural disposition (fitra) of Islam. Those who obey His prophets, who believe in Him, are upon the fitra of Islam. That is why Allah Almighty says: (?) is Islam. He accepts them too as Islam.
Because their verses, the commands they spoke, are gathered in the Quran. Just as those who believe in the Quran are Muslims, they too are Muslims. Those who don't believe are another matter, of course.
To the one who knows Allah and the one who doesn't — that is, in recognizing Allah Almighty or not — leaving people free in their will, He has placed the responsibility on people, Allah Almighty. He gave man partial free will (irade-i cüz'i). He was going to create such a being that this being, this creature He made, would not be programmed by His Self; that man, by his own desire and wish, by his own intent, would have his own desire and wish written for himself as his destiny.
All created things have been programmed. Man, with a part given by our Lord, with the soul — that soul being a part from his Lord — by his desire and wish, man had himself programmed before his Lord. Because in that part there was will. That will, that intellect, was man, within his own being, recognizing his own Creator. Without pressuring him in any way, without imposing tyranny on him, without wronging him with any torment, only by His saying before him 'I am the one who created you', it was that man's part knowing its whole. That is why Allah: Lekad halakne'l-insâne fî ahseni takvîm. I created man in the finest form, He says.
The reason: his part (?). Yes.
To those who know Allah and who don't, to the one who doesn't, that is, in recognizing Allah or not, leaving people's will free, He has placed the responsibility on people. Moreover, that His Self is one, that the heavens and the earth and what is between them belong to Allah, that there is no other creator besides Him, that He is the sole sovereign in His dominion — to this world of dominion, by calling out to the prophets He sent at different times, that is, through revelation, speaking with prophets and having them tell people, He proves that there is no god other than Him and that the prophets sent by Him are true.
So here, in a sense: people, look, these prophets addressed their peoples. These prophets came and went too, and He says: they were a people, they came and passed, He says. So, from that time on, from Adam on, Noah, and from Noah on —
why is Noah made the symbol? From Adam to Noah. It is always that one God calling out. With Noah, by a sea of water, those who denied Allah are destroyed. And after Noah, just as with Adam, people multiply again.
The peoples after Noah and the prophets who came all told of that one Allah. So, O man, come to your senses. There is no god but Allah. Look, I am calling out to you too. And I will call out until the Day of Judgment. So is there anyone else who calls out like Me? If there were, he would take what he created. And I, He says, would take what I created. Everything would drown in (?). So since this unity and togetherness, this order and harmony, is not disturbed, there is no god but Me. Whatever I have said, He says, the validity of My word until the Day of Judgment is (?). Because no one can be as true to his word as Allah, He says.
So we always say Allah anyway. Truly it is He. Everywhere, what has not come from human hands — all beings created by our Lord's power, outwardly and (?), with those seeing eyes glorify Allah; Allah's existence to (?) they outwardly prove. Yes, how beautifully Abdülkadir puts it: (?) to those unseeing eyes, he says. Yes.
His saying 'And to David We gave the Psalms': We gave, through revelation, the book that will guide people and teach them what they do not know. So, O My Beloved, just as I revealed to them, We reveal to you too. So look: were the prophets who came all the way since Adam true? Were there those who believed in them? Those who did not believe were destroyed; We saved the believers from among them. Did We show these to you too? Did We show them to you as a lesson? Through verses. What did He show, Hodja? Look, the way He left Pharaoh to you as a lesson. Today, He says, I will leave your lifeless body as a lesson to the worlds, He says.
Your lifeless body. Surah Yunus, probably verse 92. Either 90 or 92. Yes. What does it say? Let's look at Surah Yunus now.
Yes.
92, verse: O Pharaoh! So that you may be a lesson to those after you, today We will save your body lifeless, it says. We will save your body lifeless. Indeed, many people are truly heedless of Our signs, it says. Heedless of the signs. There it is, their lifeless body — his. And today we see how the English, searching the Red Sea, found him at the sea's edge along a path, at the side of a hill like this, prostrate. Today he is displayed in England's greatest (?), the (?) Museum, but they displayed him in such a way — he was prostrate — that on his side they laid him down, like this.
Yes.
His saying 'And to David We gave the Psalms': We gave, through revelation, the book that will guide people and teach them what they do not know. So, O My Beloved, just as I revealed to them, We reveal to you too. You are a prophet sent by Allah and a messenger who conveys Our commands. Even if people do not believe you, We suffice as your witness, He decrees. We are your witness. Allah suffices you as a witness, He says. Yes.
