Tafsir
Allah (swt) has given people the nafs. People who cannot reform their nafs cannot control their emotions in the face of events that anger and irritate them, and they swear in order to get their greed from other people and to satisfy themselves. Allah does not like such bad words to be spoken openly. Because the person who swears provokes the feelings of the other person, and since he has a soul, he cannot control himself, and they may even go so far as to kill each other. Or they may resent each other and try to do evil to each other for the rest of their lives. Allah does not like people who say such bad words, because these incidents create enmity between people, turn them against each other, and destroy the unity and solidarity of Islam.
(Except for the one who has been wronged.) In this verse Allah is applying His attribute of forgiveness to people. That is to say, because of the nafs He has given to human beings and the imperfect creation of human beings, people cannot control themselves, and they react to an event and curse. If Allah (swt) had said that those who are wronged cannot curse or say bad words, even if people do not deny the Verses in those moments of anger when they cannot control themselves, they would be disbelievers because they disregard the Verses by saying bad words. Because knowingly denying a verse and acting outside of it makes one a disbeliever.
Since Allah knows the nature of human beings and does not allow the disbelievers to extinguish the light of Islam on Him, He shows that He forgives their disbelief by giving them life in this state of anger, and by saying that the one who has been wronged is the other.
A bad word belongs to its owner. You can say a bad word against a bad word, but the bad word belongs to its owner because bad people use it. It is better in the sight of Allah to fear Allah and not to respond with a bad word.
(Allah is all-hearing and all-knowing.) When a person curses people with his egoistic feelings, saying that Allah allows me to say bad words in this verse, in his Nafs Emmah, in his lowest state of ego, justifying his own ego, it shows that he is a sinner. Allah, who knows the secrets of all hearts, cannot deceive Allah when people deceive themselves. Allah knows what people do and how they do it, what they say and what their intentions are.
What is said in the video
Surah An-Nisa, we continue from verse 148. Allah does not like evil speech being said openly. Why doesn't He like it? A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. Allah Almighty did not create people to be adversaries of one another. Allah does not like evil speech being said openly, He says. The reason: a Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. That brothers approach each other with hostility, that they become enemies of one another, Allah Almighty does not want. That's one. Nor did He create people on earth to speak evil words to each other. That's two. So, since Allah Almighty created people deficient in reason, He shows them their way. Do not speak evil words to one another, He says.
When you speak an evil word, the person facing you is stirred in his carnal feelings, and he speaks an evil word to you too. You become enemies, hostile to one another. Perhaps you go further and kill each other. These are the actual effects of evil speech on people. If the devil gets involved as well, and that devil gives (?) haste to the carnal feelings, a person is dragged into disasters he cannot recover from. In this case, He continues as follows. Except the one who has been wronged. Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing. Except the one who has been wronged, He says. Except. Let's say so-and-so deceived such-and-such a person.
He usurped his right. And he has no proof in hand. The person is at the end of his tether. He swore at him. That man is already content with that swearing. His character is corrupt anyway. That swindler, his character is corrupt. Swearing at him is like rain falling from the sky. With that swearing he feels satisfied, as if he got his due. Since that person can do nothing else, perhaps only with that does he try to subdue his carnal feelings. That's how far He permits it. But if you say nothing, nothing at all, if you gave yourself to Allah and left it to Allah, things would be very different.
Yes, Allah Almighty has given people a nafs, a nafs. When you say even the slightest thing to people who cannot reform their nafs, it weighs heavily on their nafs and they (?).
And this brings the bond between people's tie to Allah and their carnal feelings to light. Is he attached to his nafs, or is he bound to Allah's command in order to reform his nafs?
A person is wronged. He will seek his right, but a person who has submitted to Allah, if, instead of swearing at the other, he leaves that person to Allah, has a higher rank. In the verse Allah Almighty says: you may use evil words against evil words. But the rank of those who act well in the face of evil words is greater in Allah's sight. Yes. Let's continue. Allah Almighty has given people the nafs. People who cannot reform their nafs, in the face of events that anger and irritate them, cannot control their feelings and, to take (?) from the people facing them and to satisfy themselves, they swear.
That is why Allah does not like such evil speech being said openly. Because a person who swears provokes the feelings of the person facing him; since he too carries a nafs and cannot control himself, they may go as far as killing each other. Or they fall out and try to do each other harm for a lifetime. Since these events drive people apart and create hostility, since they make people enemies of one another and break the unity and togetherness of Islam, Allah does not like people who speak such evil, evil words. Because Islam is unity and togetherness. Islam is brotherhood. Islam is shouldering one another's faults and, amid those faults, asking for Allah's mercy.
That is why Islam is truly very beautiful. But if we live Islam, if we step outside the rules of Islam, then we are dragged into unrest and distress. Doesn't it happen? Ahmet trusts Mehmet, and then you see Mehmet turns his back on him, Ahmet is left alone. It didn't work out. If you had tied your affairs to Allah's verses,
your affairs would be on firmer ground. Yes. Except the one who has been wronged, He says. In this verse Allah applies His attribute of forgiving to people. That is, you swear, but you were wronged, you couldn't bear it. And you couldn't control your nafs. Well, he deserved it anyway. As I said a moment ago, he is already expecting such swearing from you. It will be a mercy to him. Like rain falling from the sky. He won't even mind it. If he had honor and dignity, he would not have gone after your right. If he had trust in Allah, if he had fear of Allah, he would have given your right back. Yes.
So He permits that person only this much.
That is, with the nafs He has given people and people's deficient creation, people, unable to master themselves in the face of an event, react and swear. If Allah Almighty had said: those who are wronged may not swear either, may not speak evil words, if He had said that, if He had said that, then even when people could not master themselves, even knowingly, in those angry moments, even if they did not deny the verses, because they spoke these evil words and disregarded the verses, they would become disbelievers.
This one couldn't bear it any longer and said it. Once he said it, since Allah Almighty had said he may not, when he said it knowingly he would fall into (?).
Then he turns back and regrets it. Even if he asked for forgiveness, he would be a murtad. Yes. Murtad means a turncoat. It means someone who leaves the religion and enters it again. Yes.
Since Allah knows people's nature and does not allow those who swear to put out the light of Islam within themselves and leave Islam, in these angry states He grants them room to live, and by saying 'except the one who has been wronged' He shows that He forgives the swearing they did.
The evil word belongs to its owner. How beautifully Allah Almighty puts it. Even though he spoke to you that way, that word is still yours. Because you said that word. That word came out of you. Yes. You may answer an evil word with an evil word, but since evil people use evil words, the evil word belongs to its owner. Out of fear of Allah, not answering with an evil word is better in Allah's sight. Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing. He hears and knows everything. A person with carnal feelings saying, in this verse Allah permits me to speak evil words, and, in his nafs al-ammara, in the lowest carnal state, siding with his own nafs and swearing at people, shows that those people are sinful. For example, a person in nafs al-ammara cannot tell who is right from who is wrong.
He considers himself right, and since Allah says to someone wronged like this: you may swear, he starts swearing. Since these people are not governed by the verses, since they cannot tell what is right and what is good, they become sinful.
Allah knows the secrets of all hearts; though people deceive themselves, they cannot deceive Allah. Allah knows what people do and how, why they say things, and their intentions; He is the Knower. Yes.
