An-Nisa 97: When the angels take the lives of those who ruined themselves, they will say; “What affairs were you in (in the worldly life)?” (They will say); “We were helpless (to accounted for) on earth.” The angels (will say) “Wasn’t the land of Allah large enough? You should have migrated?” Their dwelling is the hell, and how evil a destination it is.

Translation

When the angels take the lives of those who ruined themselves, they will say; “What affairs were you in (in the worldly life)?” (They will say); “We were helpless (to accounted for) on earth.” The angels (will say) “Wasn’t the land of Allah large enough? You should have migrated?” Their dwelling is the hell, and how evil a destination it is.

Tafsir

It is narrated on the occasion of the revelation of this verse that there were those who appeared to be Muslims but did not emigrate from Makkah. There were six of them and they were slaughtered in the battle of Badr. According to another narration, they say that it is about people who appeared to be Muslims in Madinah Munawwarah, but when they went to their own people they revealed their disbelief.

But since the Verses are addressed to the people who will come until the Day of Judgment, the Verses are addressed to the same people at all times.

Those who pity their own souls; although they know the Truth, they do not emigrate for the sake of the little benefit of the life of this world, because they do not obey the commands of Allah and do not compromise their own comforts. When the angels take their lives, they ask them what you were doing. They will reply, "We were weak. It is as if they think that they can deceive Allah with their lies. And the angels ask them, 'Was not Allah's earth vast? They ask. They say, "Why did you not migrate? Those who are inclined to the life of this world and do not listen to the commands of Allah are the people who pity their own souls. Their abode is Hell, what an evil place of return.

If Muslims are persecuted in a land and cannot live the commandments of Allah, they must emigrate to their brothers in Islam. People are responsible for implementing the command of Allah in such situations. In fact, this is obligatory according to this verse. Except for men who are incapacitated, disabled, helpless, children and women. Those who do not fulfill Allah's command to emigrate, when they compromise their religion, are the enemies of Allah, the notorious people, and those who side with the taghut are the ones who wrong their souls. What an evil abode for them to return to, and what an evil mattress it will be. That is eternal hell and eternal suffering in hell.

What is said in the video

(?)

Those who wronged themselves, the angels... Who are these who wrong themselves? Those who live outside Allah's command. Those who follow their own nafs and deify it. Even if, with their carnal feelings, they see what is right, those who cannot give up anything of their nafs and act outside Allah's command. These are the ones who wrong their own selves. While taking their souls, it is the angels; while taking their souls: what were you engaged in, that is, what were you doing while you were in the world, they said. They answered: we were helpless on earth. The angels said: was Allah's earth not wide? Had you emigrated, they said. Their refuge is Hell.

What an evil destination it is.

That is, these people, these people: we were helpless. That is, the people at our head guided us this way. We were obliged to follow them. If we left them, we could not survive. That is why we were obliged to follow them; when they say this, Allah's, He says, earth, was it not wide? Had you emigrated. Who? On earth. Because of worship he could not perform, if he emigrates a span in the way of Allah, a span. What does that mean? Here, this thumb of mine: when he does not emigrate, that is, when he has not set out, take it as the land where he cannot perform his worship. Here, beyond the border, a land where he can perform his worship; if he emigrates a span, from here to here, he gets exactly the reward of the emigrants who emigrated from Mecca to Medina.

Because he has emigrated for Allah. It is his going from worship he could not perform to a place where he can perform it. They are the same rewards.

That one emigrated, and this one emigrated too. Allah does not distinguish between them. This is Allah's justice. Yes.

According to one report about the revelation of these verses, they are people who appeared Muslim and did not emigrate from Mecca. They were six people and were killed at the Battle of Badr. According to another report, it is about people who appeared as Muslims in Medina and, when they came to their own people, revealed their disbelief, they say. In whatever way it may be, our Lord sheds light for us with His verses. But since the verses address people who will come until the Day of Judgment, the verses at all times address people who are the same. Because the verses address the past, the present and the future.

Yes, those who wrong their own selves, although they know the truth, for a small gain of worldly life, not observing Allah's commands, in their own comfort, since they do not give up their comfort, they do not emigrate.

When the angels take their souls, they ask them: what were you engaged in? Who are these? People who are not Muslims. Those among the Muslims who have an excuse are exempt. Those who stayed in Mecca or could not emigrate. These are exempt. Allah Almighty knows the secrets of hearts.

Even, you would say, when you emigrate, perhaps, He says, in the place you emigrate to you will attain more worldly blessings, He says. Yes. Although they know the truth, for a gain in worldly life, not observing Allah's commands, since they do not give up their comfort, they do not emigrate. When the angels take their souls, they ask them: what were you engaged in? And they reply: we were helpless people. As if they will deceive Allah with their own lies, they think. And the angels ask: was not Allah's earth wide? You should have emigrated, they say. Thus those who incline to worldly life and do not listen to Allah's commands are people who wrong their own selves.

Their refuge is Hell; what an evil place of return it is. Hell as a refuge, may Allah protect us. Just as Allah protects the whole community of Muhammad, all Muslims, from such a torment, may Allah also reform the people who have not entered the religion of Islam. Since they too are servants created by Allah, may their reform be the cause of their being freed from Hell, may it be so. But a word has gone forth from Allah. Paradise and Hell. That is, those who deny and those who obey. So if that Hell is eternal, there is no turning back in their character. But because we do not know those among them who will turn back, we say: O Allah, reform them too.

Yes. Muslims suffer oppression in a land. If they cannot live by Allah's commands, emigrating to their brothers in Islam is required of them. In such situations people are responsible for applying Allah's command.

Today this is happening: the Muslims coming from Syria. They come across the border, and we open our arms to them.

In fact, according to this verse it is obligatory. Among the men the helpless and the disabled, helpless children and women are exempt. Those who do not apply Allah's command to emigrate, since they compromise their religion, Allah's fierce enemies and those who side with the taghut, are people who wrong their own selves. Their place of return is an evil lodging, and what an evil bed it is. That is eternal Hell, and that Hell is an eternal agony he will suffer. Yes.
