An-Nisa 75: Why should you not fight in the way of Allah for the sake of the weak men, women, and children who say; “Oh Our Lord! Remove us from this place whose inhabitants are oppressors, send us a protector from Your side, send us a helper from Your side”?

Why should you not fight in the way of Allah for the sake of the weak men, women, and children who say; “Oh Our Lord! Remove us from this place whose inhabitants are oppressors, send us a protector from Your side, send us a helper from Your side”?

Tafsir

Muslims who had become Muslims in Mecca and could not migrate to Medina-i Munawwara were persecuted by the polytheists of Mecca. They suffered cruelties and tortures. The Muslims, who were groaning under these tortures, had asked Allah for help and asked for a helper to save them. Although the verse was revealed in response to this, it sheds light on all human beings, as the verses are addressed to people who will come until the Day of Judgment.

O people! Allah says that Muslims are brothers. And our Prophet said, "If one believer cannot sympathize with the plight of another believer, his faith has not been perfected". If a Muslim is persecuted and tortured in one place, and another Muslim eats and sleeps in the comfort of his home, how is this brotherhood and what kind of faith is this? Did Allah say that people should fill the earth with corruption? Did He send those who know Allah to follow the taghut and watch the oppressors? Persecution and oppression are not only applied to Islam, but Allah says to fight against those who torture and oppress people in the earth unjustly, against those who expel them from their homes, against those who disobey Allah, against those who disobey His commands, no matter what language or nationality they belong to, no matter what faith they hold. For those who disobey Allah's command, He gives good news of a painful torment in the Hereafter.

So if these people, who have been sent to this world for a short stay, become greedy and attached to the world and do not listen to the commands of Allah for their own pleasure and comfort, and do not take the side of the oppressed against the oppressors, such people will have wronged their own souls. On the Day of Reckoning, the Day of Judgment, when every soul will not be wronged by a hair's breadth in the presence of Allah, they will have wronged themselves. In this case, let us join hands and stand with Islam as a whole, according to the verse, "Islam is brothers and sisters". Let us take our place on the side of Allah against those who sow sedition on the earth and cause mischief. May Allah grant us all to wake up from the sleep of heedlessness!

What is said in the video

What is the matter with you — in the way of Allah, and 'Our Lord, take us out of this town whose people are oppressors, send us a protector from You, send us from Your presence a helper' — for the helpless men, women and children who say this you do not fight, it says. That is, for those people. Those who say 'Send us from Your presence a saviour, a mercy' — those women, those helpless people with no one, those destitute, the elderly and the oppressed — why is it, it says, that you do not fight for them?

In Mecca the Honoured, those who became Muslim but could not emigrate to Medina the Radiant — those Muslims suffered much persecution from the polytheists of Mecca.

They endured hardships and torture. The Muslims groaning under this torture took refuge in Allah, asked Him for help and asked for a helper to save them. Although the verse was revealed upon this, since the verses address the people who will come until the Day of Judgement, they shed light on all people, we said. Yes, in our previous lesson, in the verse, the Ottomans carrying right and justice everywhere, rushing there at once when they asked for help, to bring those oppressed, those wretched people back to life, to spread Allah's justice on earth, they would set out. Yes.

O people! Allah Almighty says: Muslims are brothers. Yes, if there is a Muslim at one end of the world and a Muslim at the other end, the two are brothers. Because brothers are not necessarily people born from the same womb. Of brothers born from the same womb, some are non-Muslims and some are Muslims.

In this case brothers are people who put their foreheads in prostration before the same Most Merciful; they are brothers. Yes, and the Prophet says: if a believer is not moved by the state of another believer, his faith has not reached perfection, (?). If a believer is not moved by the state of another believer, his faith has not reached perfection. If a Muslim somewhere suffers persecution, is subjected to cruelty and torture, and another Muslim eats in comfort at home, lies down and sleeps, what kind of brother is this, and what kind of faith is this? Yes, one's heart aches, one's heart. Now, in these lands, that is, in those Muslim lands, those who fight one another, who rebel, who, deceived by this unbeliever's scheme, shed one another's blood — my heart, as it were, believe me, my insides, my liver become the earth.

On that earth fires seem to burn. Fires. And I am so grieved, but I cannot do anything. Yes. But what can one do? We call out to people from here. We call out from here. As we have explained. Do not go in front of the non-Muslims. The Prophet (peace be upon him) says: love of the homeland is part of faith. If you cannot find peace in a place, leave it, he says. So if in your homeland you take up arms against your brother and shed his blood, how will you answer tomorrow in the presence of Allah Almighty? What kind of love of the homeland is this? That is not love of the homeland; because you are wrapped in the whims of the nafs and love of the world, a veil has come over your eyes, and the voice of truth is veiled to your ears.

You have become a person who only follows Satan's footsteps, runs after the taghuts, and for worldly gain sells his Hereafter. Come to your senses.

Islam is brotherhood; today, when Muslim blood is shed on earth, when they oppress one another, our hearts ache. The unbeliever, the non-Muslim, has divided the Muslims from one another very skilfully, and when the time comes, wherever and however he wants, he opens the purse and makes them dance to his tune. Then he puts forward the man he will push ahead as proof, puts him at the head, then steers him in the direction he wants. Muslim, wake up, stand up for your nation, stand up for your brothers. Islam — a Muslim is a person who lets the insults his brother has done him disappear within himself as in a blind well.

He knows that Allah Almighty did not create people deficient. If he embraces him with his deficiency and carries him on his back, he is a true human.

His brother, though.

Not someone else, not evil. You embrace your brother's wrongdoing. You make it disappear within yourself. Until you have calmed him down. But if you do not stand beside, in the ranks of, a non-Muslim — even if you embrace his wrongdoing, it means he will never be of you. Because there are verses about it.

Yes.

Did Allah tell people to drown the earth in corruption?

Yes.

Did Allah Almighty tell people to drown the earth in corruption, in corruption — did He say that?

Did He send those who know Allah so that they would watch those who follow the taghut and oppress — is that why He sent them? Look, how beautiful; one must pay attention to the words. Look, I am reading this part once more. Did Allah tell people to drown the earth in corruption? Did He send those who know Allah so that they would watch those who follow the taghut and oppress?

Not only persecution and torture applied to Muslims — whatever language and nation they belong to, whatever belief they hold, Allah commands: those who unjustly torture and oppress people on earth, who drive them from their homes, who rebel against Allah, who do not heed His command — give them glad tidings of a painful punishment, it says. Yes.

Here a word is missing a letter. Let us correct the letters. Yes.

So if we are Muslims — but a Muslim has certain duties toward a Muslim. We must fulfil these duties as far as we can.

So these people, sent to stay in the life of this world for a short time, covet the world, become attached to it, and for their own pleasures, amusements and comforts do not heed Allah's commands, and if they do not take their place beside the oppressed against the oppressors, such people have also wronged their own souls.

You may ask me a question like this. 'Well, Hodja, which one should we get to?'

So,

these people, sent (?) for a short time in the life of this world, covet the world, become attached to it, and for their own pleasures and comforts do not heed Allah's commands, and if they do not take their place beside the oppressed against the oppressors, such people have also wronged their own souls. Well, you may ask me a question like this here: 'Hodja, which one should we reach? To whom should we go?'

Even if you cannot go, you have responsibilities. (?) Sir, let us say that going off to another nation is not possible for you right now. Then what will you do? To (?) in your heart also comes to the same. Yes, if it were possible you would go, but it is not possible. With these feelings — deeds depend on intentions, don't they — our Lord, just as if you had made jihad, accepts it.

On that Day of Reckoning, the Day of Judgement, in the presence of Allah, on a day when no soul will be wronged by even a hair's breadth, they will have harmed themselves. Yes.

So we say, in this situation. In this situation, hand in hand. Muslims are brothers, according to the verse. Let us all stand with Islam. Let us stand with the truth. Let us stand with justice. Let us stand against injustice. Yes. Against those who stir up strife on earth and drown everything in corruption, let us take our place in the ranks of Allah. May Allah grant all of us to wake up from the sleep of heedlessness. Yes.
