Tafsir
O people! Your Lord who created you is one. There is no deity other than Him. He has absolute power over all His creatures and is worthy of worship. Therefore, worship Allah and fulfill your duties of servitude so that Allah may forgive you, pardon you and make you a part of the promised paradise.
O people! Allah wants you to help the poor, the weak and the needy. In this way, He wants you to increase your faith, break the evils of your souls and improve your Hereafter. That is why Allah declares who among the people is to be helped in His verse.
He asks us to help our parents, starting with those close to us who have rights over us. Because the mother carries a human being in her womb for nine months for girls and nine months and ten days for boys. The father brings his work home, protects and provides for his children until they grow up. Even if their old age is spent in the presence of their children, they should not be spoken ill of, and they should be treated with kindness and compassion. Then help relatives, father and mother, aunts, aunts, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and uncles. After these, the poor should be seen and cared for and treated well. Orphans are those who are in need of compassion and seek refuge with Allah. To please them is to make Allah happy. The poor are in the same situation. Their only support is Allah. Therefore, we should help the poor to the best of our ability and make them happy. We should also take care of our close neighbors and get along well with them. We should treat them well too. We should be good to our distant neighbors, close friends, travelers in need, those who are under our hands, slaves, concubines, servants and the like.
By making us treat these people well, Allah (swt) is actually making us treat all people well. By moralizing us with a beautiful morality, he shows people that Islam is a model religion in terms of morality and humanity.
This is why Allah says (inneddine indallahil Islam) that the religion in my religion is Islam and He wants to show people that there is no other religion but Islam and the virtue of Islam. It is for this reason that Allah says, "I have given you the name of Islam and made you witnesses over other nations.
People who are ruled by Islam, who are able to live Islam, are not arrogant and boastful towards anyone. On the contrary, they are at the service of everyone. Because Allah does not like people who are arrogant and boastful. Every human being is mortal and created in weakness. People's boasting goes as far as ascribing shirk to Allah (Allah inherits the heavens and the earth). Humans are all of the same origin.

Look how beautifully Allah Almighty puts it now; He confirms what we have explained. Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him. To parents, to relatives, to orphans, to the poor, to the near neighbour, to the distant neighbour, to the close companion, to the traveller, to those under your hands — slaves, bondmaids, servants and the like — be good. Allah does not love the one who is conceited and always boasting. Now, is it understood? Deifying their selfish feelings, both offending the religion, and, saying "I am a Muslim", Muslims who lead the way in kufr.
Did you hear this verse? Look, I'm reading it to you once more now.
O people! Your Lord who created you is one. There is no god but Him. He has absolute power over all He created. And the one worthy of worship is Allah. For this reason, worship Allah. Fulfil your duties of servanthood, so that Allah forgives you, pardons you, and joins you to the eternal gardens of paradise.
Allah, who created us, is our owner. Why did He send us to a (?)? He veiled the realm of the hereafter. He veiled Himself in the realm of Mulk too. He brought us to a realm that is a realm in the unseen. The script we gave in the realm of the hereafter, the script of our covenant, we as actors — He has it played out in the realm of Mulk. And He makes you witnesses of yourselves to yourselves, to those around you and to Allah. O man, be wise. Be wise. Your owner who created you sees you at every moment. There is no place He does not see. The darkness of night and the brightness of day — for Him, in the pitch darkness of a night, Allah, who sees the walk of a pitch-black ant and hears its sound, Allah, who knows what happens wherever you go, in the remotest corner of the universe.
You cannot escape anywhere from His presence.
And in you too there is such a witness that you cannot get away from it.
What is this witness? Your body. Wherever you go, it will bear witness against you. What does it say? When you come into My presence with a driver, when the souls are paired, when body and soul come face to face, We will seal your mouths, it says. I mean, He will seal that body's mouth, silence it, bind its feet, make your hands speak against you, or make (?) speak. Whatever you did, it will tell you. Wherever you drove that body, it will tell you. And the soul will say: why are you speaking against me? It is my Lord who makes me speak. In the end, after the testimony is over, you, it says, are returned to the first Creator, it says.
There it tastes death a second time. So, O man, use your mind a little. In you there is such a witness that wherever you go — where? Whatever hole you get into, to whatever depth of the earth you go, you cannot save yourself from it. Only by death. So gather your wits. Either appear as you are, or be as you appear. Never be hypocritical. Be a servant to Allah and worship your Lord. Otherwise we'll barely save our skins.
O people! Allah wants you to help the destitute, the weak and those in need. In this way He wants you to increase your faith, break the evils of your nafs, and build up your realm of the hereafter. For this reason Allah, with His verses, makes clear to whom among people help is to be given. Yes.
Those whose rights are upon us — starting with our relatives, He wants us to help our mother and father, because the mother carries a person in her womb with hardship — nine months for girls, nine months and ten days for boys — and the father brings home what he earns, protects the children until they grow up and provides their living. If their old age is to be spent beside their children, not even "uff" should be said to them, and they should be treated well, shown a smiling face and treated with compassion. Then the relatives — father, mother, grandmother, aunts on the father's and mother's side, nephews and nieces, brothers and sisters, and uncles — should be helped.
After them, the poor should be looked after and treated well. Orphans are people in need of compassion, who take refuge in Allah. Winning their hearts means pleasing Allah. The poor are in the same situation. Their only support is Allah. For this reason we should give the poor whatever help we can and win their hearts. We should make them happy. We should also show our near neighbours due attention and get along well with them. We should treat them well too. To our distant neighbours who know us, to our close friends, to travellers in need, to those under our hands — slaves, bondmaids, servants and the like — we should be good.
In the madrasas, the students would study. The, um, efendi at their head knew the poor in that neighbourhood.
From the sums coming to that madrasa, it was distributed to poor families. We do the same, I suppose, don't we? As much as we can, we look after them, we give, as far as our strength allows. Yes, Allah Almighty, by making us treat well these people He listed, in fact makes us treat all people well. By giving us beautiful morals, He shows people that Islam is an exemplary religion in its moral and humane aspect.
And that people who apply the sharia ruling of Allah Almighty are an embodiment of virtue. It is for this reason that Allah, saying inne'd-dîne inda'llâhi'l-İslâm — in My sight the religion is Islam — wants to show that there is no religion other than Islam, and to show people the virtue of Islam. Again, it is for this reason that Allah says: I gave you the name Islam and made you witnesses over the other nations. People who are governed by Islam, who can live Islam, do not act arrogantly and boast toward anyone. On the contrary, they are at everyone's service. Because Allah does not love people who act arrogantly and boast.
Every human is mortal and was created in helplessness. People's arrogance and boasting goes as far as associating partners with Allah. The inheritance of the earth and the heavens belongs to Allah. As for people, they all come from the same origin. Yes.
