Translation

There is a share for men from what their parents and their relatives have left behind. There is (also) a share for women from what their parents and their relatives have left behind. Whether the inheritance is large or small, there is a determined share.

Tafsir

Before the advent of Islam, in the age of ignorance, women were not entitled to inheritance and were bought and sold like property. With the advent of Islam, women were valued and Allah gave them the status and rank they deserved.

This verse explains how both men and women are to benefit from inheritance. It explains how inheritance is to be divided between men and women from what their parents and relatives leave behind.

Since the deceased has rights over his relatives, the relatives have rights to the money or property left behind by the deceased, and that people should be treated with justice and no one should be treated unfairly, Allah, who enlightens people with His Verses, declares His Verses to people without discriminating between His creatures with His attribute of Rahman.

The following verses will explain how men and women are to benefit from inheritance.

What is said in the video

In the seventh verse of Surah An-Nisa: of what parents and relatives leave behind, there is a share for men. Of what parents and relatives leave behind, there is a share for women too. Whether it be little or much, a fixed portion has been set aside. Here Allah Almighty does not deprive woman and man of their parents' inheritance. But within fixed shares, He does not lead people away from justice either.

Those who have sisters, whose parents have died and whose inheritance has passed to those children: Allah Almighty grants men two, and the woman one share. Because the woman also receives from her husband. From her husband too. Had she taken her two shares, together with the men she would have been completely stripped of her father's property. Tomorrow, when they cannot provide their livelihood, when her husband divorces her, she has to return to her brothers. There she again benefits from the share that remained there. But today most men do not accept this. They do not grant their sisters any right.

Their sisters. Let's say a man has three sons and two daughters. How will we divide this, Hodja? The men, two each: two, four, six shares. The women, one (?) share each, 2 shares; 8 shares. If the property is 80 lira, it is divided by 8, by 8. That is 10 lira per head. The men take 20, 40, 60, 20 each, since they take 2 each. The women take 10 each, 10 each; that is how they share it. If the woman returns from where she went, her brothers look after her again from the father's property. Do not squander your father's property, it says, do not destroy it, do not destroy it. That is, protect it, the father's property.

So that tomorrow, in a state of hardship, you benefit from that property, it says. That is why they do not let the father's property be scattered much.

Before Islam came, in the age of ignorance, women could not receive a share of inheritance; they were bought and sold like goods, in the age of ignorance. With the coming of Islam, women were given value, and Allah granted women the position and ranks they deserve. This verse explains how both men and women will benefit from inheritance. Of what parents and relatives leave behind, how the inheritance is to be divided for both man and woman is made known, it says. What does it say anyway? Whether it be little or much, a fixed portion has been set aside, it says. Whether little or much. That is, two for men, one for the woman.

Whether little or much. Since the relatives of the deceased have rights over him, that from the money or property the deceased left behind his relatives have rights, that people deal with justice and that no one is wronged, Allah, who (?) to people with His verses, as the Merciful, without discrimination among His creatures, (?) to make His verses clear to people.

In the following verses it will be explained how men and women will benefit from inheritance, it says. This verse is this much. Let us not turn to the following verse. The verses will be opened up. We tell you that by one verse, in one verse, the Quran is travelled through. In one verse. Because the verses always confirm one another. They do not contradict.
