Translation

There are some among the people of the Book who believe in Allah, in what has been sent down to you and in what has been sent down to them and who are respectful against Allah. They do not sell Allah’s verses for a small return. There is a reward for them with their Lord. Verily, Allah is swift in Allah’s account.

Tafsir

Among the People of the Book there are many Muslims who do not reveal themselves because they are afraid of people, but who worship in secret. The fact that Allah (swt) refers to these people by saying that these people believe in what has come down to them and in what has been sent down to you; the fact that the Qur'an, which has come down to the worlds, is addressed as what has come down to you, with the acceptance of the Muslims, declares that these people, together with the Muslims, believe in the Qur'an and in the Prophet, who is the last Prophet sent, and that they submit to Allah.

The meaning of this verse is that they will not sell the Verses for a small amount of money, that is, they will not compromise on even one verse of the Holy Qur'an, even if it were possible to give this world with all that is in it to these people. Because compared to the Word of Allah, the whole world or the whole universe is a small amount of money. The Qur'an is the Word of Allah. It is the book of Allah Himself. It is eternal, while the created things are mortal. Allah cannot be compared to His creations. However, what he calls a small amount of money is the equivalent of the labor of Allah's knowledge and power. He destroys this universe and creates it again. Indeed, when the Day of Judgment comes, all beings will be destroyed and Allah will create them again. His own creations are but a small matter in comparison to His Word, which is the equivalent of His labor. These are the people who do not change or compromise the Verses of Allah for their own benefit and worldly blessings.

Surely Allah is quick in reckoning. Allah is quick in reckoning. As mentioned in the previous verses, a thousand years in this world is like a day in the Hereafter. If the lives of people in this world were recorded on a videotape, and if you played this footage on a television screen, it would correspond to an hour or an hour and a half in time, compared to the time of the Hereafter. Another meaning is that if you program the video tape of a human lifetime that you have shown on television into the brain of a computer, when you want to see this program in front of you on that computer, the program on that computer instantly brings you the entire program in front of you, and you watch what you have done in front of it. Allah has all knowledge. Humans cannot comprehend His knowledge. In this respect, Allah is quick to take account of man in the Hereafter with many more sciences.

What is said in the video

Among the People of the Book there are some who believe in Allah, in what was sent down to you and in what was sent down to them, with full sincerity and humbling themselves before Allah. They do not sell Allah's verses for a small price.

Those have their reward with their Lord. Surely Allah is swift in reckoning, He says.

Among the non-Muslims, among the rabbis or priests, there are some who became Muslim but cannot reveal themselves, some such people. (?) rabbis or priests not within the mulk. Among the non-Muslims. Among themselves, against their (?), those who deviate within their own faith are excluded, belittled, isolated, even excommunicated. No one speaks with them. So they cannot come out into the open, but they secretly continue their worship. These are the ones Allah Almighty means.

Among the People of the Book there are people who cannot reveal themselves because they are wary of others, but who perform their worship secretly, very much Muslim people. Allah Almighty, meaning these, says these people believe both in what was sent down to them and in what was sent down to you; that is, was the Quran sent down only to Muslims? So that you can understand the meaning better, we will correct this part too, God willing. That is, the Quran was sent down to the worlds, and His saying "to you", which we clarify here, His saying "what was sent down to you" about the Holy Quran sent down to the worlds, addressing it as "sent down to you" because the Muslims accepted it, declares that, together with the Muslims, they believe in the Holy Quran and in the last-sent Seal of the Prophets, the Prophet, and that they submit to Allah; this is what it declares.

Here this meaning is understood: when a person uses his reason, he sees the truth. When he uses his reason. So Allah Almighty also addresses people's reason. "Do you not use your reason at all?" He says. "Do you not reflect at all?" Wherever you were born, whether among idolaters or among their assemblies, religious or irreligious. Wherever you are from. Because reason knows what is right, wherever you are, among the non-Muslims, when a person with his reason finds the truth, he believes in it. If he sees the truth with his reason but does not believe, then Allah Almighty's verse appears here. For them.

"They are the denying disbelievers," He says. Denying disbelievers. Those who deny although they know the truth. Yes. People who, out of pride, arrogance and self-importance, (?) Allah Almighty and wait for the Lord of their own imagination, who despite seeing the truth deify their own selves and do not submit to Allah; against them Allah Almighty, how beautifully, says with His verse that among them those who see and know the truth believe both in their own books and in the Holy Quran sent down as a mercy to the worlds, He says. And what does Allah Almighty say after that? "They have their rewards with their Lord," He says.

Yes.

These do not sell Allah's verses for a small price. Indeed Allah Almighty says in His verse: They, He says, in the Torah, the Psalms or the Gospel,

the rabbis or priests, for a small gain, changing Allah's verses, in their own interest, saying "Allah said this, He sent a verse", inserting words.

Why? A small gain, He says. In the life of this world people surely benefit, even if only a little. From what? They eat and drink for their living. That is a gain. A small gain; every soul shall taste death. And according to the verse "and finally your return is to Allah", people on earth, compared with the hereafter, live something like an hour, an hour and a half. So compared with the hereafter, this world becomes a small gain, a small gain. To people who cannot grasp this, who set their hearts on this small gain of the world and cast the hereafter behind them, Allah Almighty gives such a beautiful example of people.

Even those among themselves believe both in their own books and, as a mercy to the worlds, in the Quran, He says. Yes, these do not sell Allah's verses for a small price. The meaning in this verse: they do not sell the verses for a small price. That is, even if it were possible, together with what is in this world, to grant these people the world and its contents and as much again as this world, whatever. Indeed Allah Almighty says so: when they see that punishment, they, He says, if they had this world full of wealth, and another world added to it, would want to pay it to Allah as ransom and be saved, He says.

Yes. Even if it were possible to grant these people the world with all it contains, they would not concede to them even one verse of the Holy Quran. Because the life of this world is a small gain. Because beside Allah's word, the whole of the world or the universe is a small price (?). Allah the Creator, the transient worlds, if He has sent you for a test into an unseen world, in an unseen world, being provided for in a short life is a small gain, compared with the eternal bliss of the hereafter. Yes. The Quran is Allah's word, Allah's own book. It is everlasting; the created things are transient.

Allah cannot be compared with what He created. That is, when we say what He created is transient, here we mean the realm of mulk. Those in the realm of mulk are transient. The people in the realm of mulk, only people: in mulk, in the hereafter they are everlasting. Let the word not be misunderstood here. Let us open this up a little. We say people, the created, are transient. Among the created, the people in the realm of mulk, outwardly in a body, are everlasting. In mulk they are transient. They will taste death. In the hereafter they are everlasting, in Paradise and Hell. No death. The other creatures will vanish after taking their rights from one another.

They too are transient. Only the first created, (?), they will enter Paradise. Yes. Allah cannot be compared with what He created. But the "small price" He mentions, in return for the effort of Allah Almighty's knowledge and power, is what it means. This too was created. Allah Almighty spent an effort while creating these worlds.

Don't say, look, this man is attributing qualities to Allah. The verses. We created the heavens in two days, the earth in two days, and what is between them in two days, He says. Six days in all, He says. Isn't this an effort? An effort. Isn't it a, a time spent? And this, not by the measure of this world but by the measure of the hereafter, makes six thousand years. By the measure of this world.

So in return for this effort of Allah Almighty, compared with the everlasting life, the life of this world is a small gain.

Yes.

Allah Almighty makes this universe from nothing, destroys this universe and creates it again. Because the Hour will come; what does He say? The order of all the worlds will break down, the Hour will come, everything will be thrown into chaos, when the heavens, He says, flow like molten metal, when the seas swell, when the mountains are tossed about like carded wool, when the earth casts out what is inside it, what happened? The whole order broke down and the Hour came. Allah Almighty will create these again in the hereafter. Yes.

Moreover, when the Hour comes all beings will perish, and Allah Almighty will create them again. So His own creation, beside His own word, in return for His effort, is a small matter. These people do not, for their own interests and the blessings of this world, change Allah's verses, nor do they concede anything from them. Who are these? The Muslims among those people, and among the Muslims the believers.

Surely Allah is swift in reckoning, He says. He will settle those accounts very quickly. Allah is the one who settles accounts quickly. As mentioned in His earlier verses, a thousand years of this world are like one day of the hereafter. If people's lifetimes in this world were recorded on a videotape and you played this recording on a television screen, in terms of time, by the time of the hereafter it would correspond to about one or one and a half hours. Yes. Another meaning: if you programmed the videotape of a person's life that you showed on television into a computer's brain, when you want to see this program before you on that computer, instantly the program on that computer brings the whole program before you, and the person then watches what he did in front of it.

So Allah is the owner of all knowledge. People cannot comprehend His knowledge. Therefore Allah, with so many more kinds of knowledge, settles a person's account in the hereafter very quickly.

In another sense, the human being has seven states of the nafs. Nefs-i emmare, nefs-i levvame, nefs-i mülhime, nefs-i mutmainne, nefs-i raziye, nefs-i marziyye, nefs-i safiye. He at once separates them according to the states of their nafs. Seven groups. You know, in the hereafter they will be separated into three groups. What does it say? All the pairs, (?), three groups. Eshab-ı meymeneti ma eshab-ı meymeneh. Those on the right. Eshab-ı meş'emeti ma eshab-ı meş'emeh. Those on the left.

And these are the class of the muqarrabin. Three classes. Among those on the right, according to the states of the nafs, they will at once be separated. According to that state of the nafs their places are fixed, the ranks to be given are fixed. Their accounts will be settled at once, quickly, as a group, as a group, their accounts settled, and they will be placed in their places. Where did you get "as a group" from, Hodja? "When they are presented to their Lord as a congregation," He says. In such a beautiful verse. As a congregation. Yes. So, part by part, according to the states of the nafs, people will as a congregation be registered with their Lord.

In this case people, in whichever state of the nafs they are, in the Paradises corresponding to that nafs will be placed. Yes.
