Anyone who turns away after this, they are the wrongdoers.
Tafsir
Some commentators have interpreted this verse to mean that the prophets made this promise on behalf of their ummahs, which is wrong. Allah (swt) has made a covenant with all people individually. No one is responsible for anyone else. If the prophets had made a promise on behalf of their ummahs, they would have been responsible for those of their ummahs who chose the wrong path, who left the right path and turned to the wrong path. In one of the verses of the Qur'an, Allah says, "My Messenger, I did not send you to use violence, but to convey the message, and mercy is from me" (you cannot make the deaf hear, even if they love you). The address here is directly to the people with whom He made a covenant (in Kalu Bela) and to those who rebelled in Kalu Bela, to those who went astray after proving their existence in the realm of property.
After Allah (swt) has proved His Essence by introducing Him so much, that is, that there is no other God but Allah (swt), who made a covenant with His prophets, who gave them their prophetic duties, who created all these worlds with His knowledge, who declared that living and non-living beings know the remembrance of Allah (swt), After proving that He made a covenant with the souls of all human beings (in kalu bela) and wrote everyone's desires and wishes as destiny for Himself (in kalu bela), He closes the covenant and sends them to a world of unseen, He says: "Whoever turns back after that, they are the ones who have gone astray". According to people's desires and wishes in the Hereafter, you cannot go beyond what their covenant is. Although all these events are unfolding before your eyes, you will commit the same deeds in the world according to your rebellion there. Our Lord's purpose in explaining these things is to warn us so that you will not say, "You did not send us a prophet, a book or a scholar so that we may know you. And if you still rebel against Allah and turn away from Allah and live far from Allah and leave the straight path and follow the crooked path, these are the ones who live according to their covenant and go astray in their rebellion and wrong their souls.
What is said in the video
What does it say? From now on, whoever turns back, they are the very ones who have gone astray. Turns back from where? Turns back on his word. What does the verse above say? Yes, the prophets, all the prophets are those who know Allah as the Creator, who affirm that there is no god but Him, who confirm one another and help one another. For this reason, through the covenants they gave, Allah brought them near to Himself. Just as the prophets are witnesses for one another, Allah Almighty too has become their witness.
Some commentators say of this verse that the promise the prophets gave was on behalf of their communities. What does it say? From now on, whoever turns back, they are the very ones who have gone astray. I mean, it is not Allah who says this, but the Prophet says it to his community, if one of his community turns back. What does it say? Some commentators say of this verse that the promise the prophets gave was on behalf of their communities. The promise the prophets gave on behalf of their communities. Yes, then if the Prophet spoke on behalf of his community, when that community falls into unbelief, the Prophet becomes responsible.
The Prophet becomes responsible, may Allah protect us. Whereas every soul is responsible for itself. So when one says commentator, that is, one who interprets, which branch these men are playing from, which idea, which mindset they serve, becomes clear from the words he speaks. Hazrat Mevlana says so too, doesn't he: tell me a word, he says, and I will tell you where you stand. So, these too, poor people, those who explain this commentary like this, poor people, no prophet gives anyone a promise on behalf of his own community. If he had given one, Allah Almighty would not have said this verse. They were of his community. My beloved, do not mind their denying you.
In their time they betrayed Me too. Allah Almighty says. In many places Allah Almighty advises the Prophet (peace be upon him) about those who deny him. In this situation some commentators say of this verse that the promise the prophets gave was on behalf of their communities. He says Allah Almighty gave a promise on behalf of their communities. This is wrong. Allah Almighty made a covenant with all people one by one. With all people. In that realm of lahut He created people, He created the souls, and when He suddenly gave them life, those three groups, opposite them a twilight darkness said to them: I am your Lord, I created you.
And after that He made a covenant with people one by one. He wrote their wishes, desires and aims as destiny for them, and raised them to the place called the realm of barzakh. How long we stayed, how many thousand years we stayed, what became of us, is not known. Now we have come into the world. As we said, this is a series of adventures. What kind of series of adventures? Our Lord willed it, He created our souls. Then He made a covenant with them. Then He raised them to the barzakh. Then every person, to play out in the world the covenant he himself gave, was placed in the world in the garment of the body, outwardly clothed in the garment of the body, and appeared outwardly in this world.
After this he will taste death, and for the bodies in the grave, for the souls in their tombs, there will be a time of waiting. How long we will stay there is not known either. Just as we have not remembered, cannot remember, that we were created in the realm of souls and made a covenant (?) Allah, though not everyone, of course. Except those Allah wills. Yes, how much time has passed since then is not known. That unknown time is as if it were a day or less than a day. The verse says so anyway. And after this, how many days we will lie is not known. After that we will rise, our bodies will bear witness against us, souls and bodies will come face to face, and we will be revived a second time, and before Allah Almighty, after our bodies have borne witness to our souls, they will die a second time, and Allah Almighty, who addresses mainly the souls, since soul, nafs and life are one, they will come to Paradise or Hell.
Otherwise there is no Paradise or Hell with bodies. Because this body can neither endure the torment of Hell nor come to Paradise and (?) it. That is why everything there is luminous.
So Allah Almighty, in that realm, made a covenant with our souls one by one too. One by one. In this case, with our souls with whom He made covenants, yes, those souls took on their own responsibility. Their own responsibilities. And for this reason Allah Almighty says what you earn is the recompense of your two hands. Yes. Yes.
And of what you have done, (?) good is written. Of what you have done, (?) evil is written too, He says. If the Prophet had given Allah Almighty a promise in my name, (?) the Prophet would say. The Prophet would be blamed. You gave a promise for this one, but look, you could not manage him. Or else this man got into these states. Now go on, suffer the punishment for it. He would say. He would. Just as a person becomes a guarantor for a person. The guarantor, the money, er, when the debtor does not pay the money, the guarantor pays.
Yes.
No one is a guarantor for anyone.
(?). No one is responsible for anyone. If the prophets had given a promise on behalf of their communities, they would be responsible for those of their communities who chose the deviant path, left the right path and resorted to the crooked path. In a verse Allah Almighty says: My beloved, I did not send you to use force, but to convey. Mercy is from Me. Even if they are those you love, you cannot make the deaf hear. He decrees. The address here is directly from Allah Almighty, who made a covenant with people at Qalu Bala and wrote their destinies according to their aims, again to those who at Qalu Bala rebelled, and to those who went astray after He proved His being in the realm of property.
So every soul is itself responsible. What are prophets? Messengers. What do messengers do? They convey Allah Almighty's command. Well, while the messenger conveys this, while he himself carries out this command of Allah, when those people do not keep Allah's command, are the messengers responsible?
So how can this man say, how can some commentators say of this verse that the promise the prophets gave was on behalf of their communities? This is wrong.
Let us say the prophet gave his promise as one obedient. For example, may Allah protect us, all of them gave it as obedient, and since all their communities too gave it in his name, all of them would have had to be obedient. They would have had to be people loyal to Allah Almighty. It was given in his name, after all. Then for those who were not obedient the prophets would be responsible. May Allah protect us, these are wrong words.
So the address here is directly from Allah Almighty, who made a covenant with people at Qalu Bala and wrote their destinies according to their aims, to those who at Qalu Bala rebelled, and to those who went astray after He proved His being in the realm of property. To those who went astray. Yes, this one had already rebelled at Qalu Bala. Even though Allah Almighty proved His being to them in the realm of property too, these people go astray in this world. From now on, whoever turns back, they are the very ones who have gone astray. I mean: although We have proven Our being with so many verses to everyone with a mind, although We have inevitably made known to people that We are the absolute owner of the worlds, and although We have again proven to everyone with a mind that there is no god but Allah, if they still pay no heed to this and turn their backs, then they are the very ones who have gone astray.
What path is this? Stepping outside Allah's sharia ruling. That is, stepping outside the religion of Islam. That is, living their own ideologies. That is, deifying their nafs, with pride, arrogance, fame, renown, ego, grandeur, worldly desire and egotism, turning their backs on Allah Almighty.
After Allah Almighty has proven Himself by making Himself known this much, that is, that there is no other god but Allah, that He made a covenant with His prophets, gave them their prophetic duties, created all these worlds with His knowledge, declared that living and lifeless beings know the remembrance of Allah, after He has proven that He made a covenant with the souls of all people at Qalu Bala, that He wrote everyone's wishes and desires as destiny for them, that He closed the covenant at Qalu Bala and sent them to a realm of the unseen, From now on, whoever turns back, they are the very ones who have gone astray, Allah Almighty decrees.
After so much proof, those who still live their own wishes and desires with carnal feelings. Those who keep company with Satan, who said: I swear I will set traps before the servants coming to You and hold them back from coming to You, and those who take Satan as a friend, these people, of course, after taking those taghuts, those devils, as friends, will of course turn their backs on Allah. Yes. People's wishes and desires in the realm of the hereafter, what do we say? Whatever people's, your wishes and desires in the realm of the hereafter, whatever your covenant is, you cannot step outside it. Yes. Whatever your covenant, whatever your desire is, whatever your covenant is, you cannot step outside it.
Let us put a comma here, it will be better. Yes. Whatever people's wishes and desires in the realm of the hereafter are, whatever their covenant, they cannot step outside it. Indeed, if We do not will, you do not will. But this is in My hand, says Allah Almighty. Because I gave you those destinies. (?). What is this? With Us the books are preserved in the Preserved Tablet. (?). All this world is programmed according to the program of that book. At some point in time two people ask me a question like this, I never forget it. They know that I am somewhat knowledgeable, and at that time we are young. How many years ago is this?
If we were to calculate, since we retired in '78, in '75 or so, '74, the year '74. How many years is that? 26 years from there, 10 from here, 36 years. 36 years ago he asks me. He says: we have a question for you. Well, I said: ask. Now, a doctor's book has been written in thousands of pages. A judge's book has been written in thousands. (?) electrical, engineering books have been written in thousands of pages. So now he says, all these sciences, (?) a book inside it, he said? He asks me a question like this. These are two people. And I, knowing their aim, took a soft approach. I said, let me first explain it to them gently.
We said: the word of Allah Almighty is upon letters. Like us, I said, many of its words are set side by side, but within one sentence they are not in a state to express a single aim of ours, I said. For example, we cannot know what Alif Lam Mim corresponds to, I said. Perhaps there is a secret of creation in these, I said. For this reason Allah Almighty says whatever is wet and dry is in the Quran, and the secret of all sciences is also in the Quran. And those still to come, I said, as they come, I said, the secret of the sciences to be found in future ages is also in the Holy Quran, I said.
Thereupon they began to mock, they began to laugh. I said: I knew your aim anyway, I said it hoping you might understand, let me tell you one more word, I said. So it does not stay inside me, and then I (?) go, I said. They say: if a person does not believe in the Quran and hadith, you used to say do not answer him at all, do not talk, end the matter. Come on, farewell to me.
Yes, if a person does not believe in the Quran and hadith, do not answer him at all, do not talk, end the matter, it says. Because they increase their unbelief. (?), it increases his unbelief.
So every person's wish and desire became his destiny at Qalu Bala. After proving that He closed the covenant at Qalu Bala and sent them to a realm of the unseen, from now on, whoever turns back, they are the very ones who have gone astray, He decrees. Whatever people's wishes and desires in the realm of the hereafter, whatever your covenant, you cannot step outside it. Even though so many events appear before your eyes, you commit it in the world too, according to your rebellion there. So here, it means, there is no willing of Allah over us. There is Allah's willing too, but it exists in this way.
What does He say? If We do not will, you cannot will, He says. There are many more verses like this about Allah Almighty's willing. But these willings must be understood well. If we tie everything to Allah, the deeds we are to do disappear. Then Allah Almighty would have made us do them, and here Allah Almighty would be blamed, given attributes. May Allah protect us. Yes.
Whatever your covenant is, you cannot step outside it. Even though so many events appear before your eyes, according to your rebellion there you commit it in the world too. Our Lord's purpose in explaining these: You sent us no prophet, no book or no scholar so that we might know You; so that you do not say this, He warns us. If you still rebel against Allah, turn away from Allah, live far from Allah, leave the right path and go on the crooked path, then these, according to their covenants, are the very ones who have gone astray, and those who wrong their own souls. Every soul wrongs itself.
