Their brother Hud had said to them, “won’t you abstain (from rebelling against Allah)?”
Tafsir
Hadrat Hud 'alaihis-salâm', like Hadrat Noah 'alaihis-salâm', said: "O my people, will you not refrain (from disobeying Allah)?
Allah (swt) has bestowed all these blessings on human beings, created them out of nothing and provided them with a good life. Nevertheless, if people eat and drink of Allah's blessings, and if they know that the blessings they eat and drink are from the idols created by Allah, by associating partners with Allah, they will surely attract the wrath of Allah because they are very cruel to their souls. Hud 'alaihis-salâm' warns them and says, 'Do you not avoid disobeying Allah?
Since Allah will not hold anyone to account for what He has not announced, He sent Hud (peace be upon him) to them as a Prophet. He told them to give up idol worship, not to associate partners with Allah, and to recognize Allah as the Creator and worship Him.
What is said in the video
Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 124: Their brother Hud had said to them: Will you not guard against opposing Allah?
Now, that they would oppose Allah Almighty — did Hud (peace be upon him) not know that? He knew. Hud (peace be upon him), having made a covenant with Allah Almighty at the pact of "Elestu bi rabbikum" — did he not know that they were steeped in shirk, that they had turned their backs on Allah, that he could not invite them to Allah? He knew. Why then does he say: Will you not guard against opposing Allah?
Allah Almighty will not call anyone to account for something He has not made known. Why did He send us to this world? To a realm where His essence is not seen. Allah Almighty — Surah Ta-Ha, verse 134, it is worth recalling this verse. Before the Quran, it says. Had We destroyed them — had We destroyed them with a punishment, it says, they would have said: If only You had sent us prophets and books, then we would not have fallen into this lowly disgrace. So that they would not say this, He created these outward realms, and to this realm where His essence is not seen He brought us and placed us. Now (?) Allah Almighty makes His essence known.
Whatever covenant you gave Allah Almighty, the characters of that covenant were given to you and its script was written. As an actor, you will play it here. So, according to the verse, so that you do not say: Had You sent me prophets and books, I would not have fallen into this lowly disgrace. That very word you would say — what does Allah Almighty say to you here? He informs you through His prophets and His books. That word he would say. Now, Allah Almighty has the attribute of Godhood. What is it? No one will be able to question Him. Why? Whatever one would ask will have become manifest, and the question will fall away.
This is Allah's attribute of Godhood. So in this situation Hud (peace be upon him) too tells his people: Will you not guard against opposing Allah? Here — fine, there you saw Allah Almighty as an essence like yours, like yourself, and could not believe. You waited for the Lord of your imagination, whereas Allah Almighty says they will not be able to see their Lord, it says. Because there is no other god besides Allah for them to see the Lord they imagined. This symbolizes tawhid in this verse anyway. In this case, the prophets — all the words they would say, Allah Almighty had His prophets say through His verses.
Hud (peace be upon him), like Noah (peace be upon him), said: O my people, will you not guard against opposing Allah? That is what he said. Allah Almighty has bestowed so many blessings on people, created them from nothing, and provided them a good life. Despite this, people eat and drink Allah's blessings, and these blessings they eat and receive, associating partners with Allah, if they attribute them to idols that Allah created, then surely, since people are very wrongful toward their own selves, they will draw Allah's wrath upon themselves. Now here, for a person who thinks — who thinks — as Allah Almighty says: Do you never think?
Do you not reflect? Do you never use your reason? Here a person who thinks and wants to use his reason should reflect on his own existence. He doesn't need to go anywhere. He doesn't need to go anywhere. He will reflect on his own existence. Let him not look around. His eyes, like a camera, take and pass on a picture instantly.
His heart works like the (?) of a clock.
What he eats is, by his liver, in those intestines, separated into nutrients, sometimes kept in reserve, stored. The other part takes certain nutrients to secure life and keeps the person's life going. Only a laboratory the size of the world could do this job. His ears, a radio set, don't pick up every signal. According to what they say, there is a kind of bat in Spain. If people heard the scream they let out, a heart patient would die of his heart. And pregnant women, it says, would miscarry out of fear.
Man is a universe in himself, a great universe. On his tongue there are fifty-six, fifty-eight, fifty-seven taste organs. Allah Almighty created man so beautifully, and so that he enjoys what he eats, those taste organs He placed on their tongues.
To an innumerable degree, man is created on a certain mechanism, like a machine. From flesh and bone. In this case, if those pitiful people who deny Allah were to use their reason — did this blessing just come about by itself? That is, did this body just come about in the world by itself?
So that this cannot be denied, Allah Almighty in all the books begins with Adam. In the Gospel, in the Torah, in the Psalms too. From our forefather Adam: His creating him from clay, then giving him of His spirit, putting him into paradise, sending him to the world for his rebellion, and then, through His pardon and forgiveness, His forgiving Adam; and, to bring into the world all the souls He created, in an unseen realm He sets up the human machine in Adam and our mother Eve. And no human can deny this. In this case, Allah's enemies, to deny Allah, say, oh, I don't know, this animal was like this 3 million years ago, then this animal changed itself like this and came to this state.
Whereas when Allah Almighty created the world, the world has a way of filtering itself. That is, of cleaning itself. Otherwise, if Allah Almighty had not had this world filtered, had He not had the world cleaned by its creatures, one by another, the world would be nothing but a garbage heap and rot, and on it not a single being would remain to live.
Because people are enemies of Allah, it's enough for them, it says, to say there is no Allah. But why should he say there is no Allah? He knows that he has a God. If he didn't know, he wouldn't try to prove that Allah doesn't exist. And Allah Almighty shows those brainless ones miracles.
We let the two seas flow toward each other, it says. Two seas. There is a barrier between them; they do not mix. That fresh water and salt water Captain Cousteau found in the Strait of Gibraltar.
In the depths of the ocean — what it calls the darknesses in its depths — that thousands of kilometers below the ocean there are darknesses.
When they fought the Romans, the Iranians were defeated. Although it is not possible for a defeated people to recover again — and they give an example of this: whenever any people was defeated, it says, it could not recover for forty years, it says. Forty years. Yet Allah Almighty says in Surah Ar-Rum that within three to nine years they will prevail. And finally, at the place He named, in the lowest part of the land, it says. Today, in the lowest part of the land, about 180 meters, I think, below sea level, there is a place. There, near it, the Romans are defeated. And Abu Bakr (?) takes a hundred camels from the polytheist.
They make a wager.
Yes. Look what it says in that verse — let's read it here, in Surah Ar-Rum. It's outside our lesson, but it's useful. Let's see.
Let's go to 361, 412. Surah As-Sajdah, Surah Luqman.
Surah Ar-Rum. It should be here.
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim Here the verse is written very small; my eyes can't see it. Very small. Well, page 404, very small writing.
Surah Ar-Rum, Surah Ar-Rum, yes. Fî bid'ı sinîn lillâh, sinîn lillâhi'l- emru min kablu ve min ba'du ve yevmeizin yefrahu'l- mü'minûn, bi nasrillâh, yansuru men yeşâu ve huve'l-azîzu'r-rahîm The third verse, two, three, this part it is.
Four. Elif lâm mîm. Ğulibeti'r-Rûm, fî edne'l-ardı ve hum min ba'di ğalebihim, ğalebihim seyağlibûn, fî bid'ı sinîn, lillâhi'l-emr. In the nearest part of the land, (?) they, after their defeat, will surely prevail. Within three to at most nine years Three to at most nine years. The command belongs to Allah, before and after, and on that day the believers will rejoice. When it said three to nine years, Abu Bakr (?) on ten camels that within three years, according to this verse, within three years, well, the Romans will prevail. The Romans. Then he comes and tells the Prophet. And the Prophet says: We you — three to nine years — you say three to nine years, he says.
And raise the camels to a hundred, he says. The polytheist — alright, he says. He goes to the polytheist. He says: between three and nine years, for a hundred camels. He too says: Alright. In the nearest part of the land, it says. The nearest place — that is, what it calls the nearest part of the land — near that lowest place which, at sea level, is one hundred and eighty meters below. Here a miracle of Allah Almighty takes place. That is, the Quran is full of miracles. In this case, however much people may deny Allah Almighty — since, through the Noble Quran He has sent us, Allah Almighty will not call anyone to account for what He has not made known — in the hereafter, when He leaves those who deny Allah (?) to the punishment of hell, against Allah Almighty they will have no word left to say.
What does it say? Their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard against opposing Allah? Hud (peace be upon him), like Noah (peace be upon him), said: O my people, will you not guard against opposing Allah? That is what he said. Allah Almighty has bestowed so many blessings on people, created them from nothing, and provided them a good life. Despite this, people eat and drink Allah's blessings, and these blessings they eat and receive, associating partners with Allah, if they attribute them to their idols that Allah created, then surely, since people are very wrongful toward their own selves, they will draw Allah's wrath upon themselves.
Hud (peace be upon him), warning them: Will you not guard against opposing Allah? he says. That is, one day soon, for these blessings given, you will be called to account by the One who gave them. That's why I am warning you now. The One who gives you these blessings is the Lord of the worlds.
Obey Him. Even so, since Allah Almighty does not call anyone to account for what He has not made known, He sent Hud (peace be upon him) to them as a prophet. He told them to give up worshipping idols, not to associate partners with Allah, and to know Allah as the Creator and worship Him.
Yes.
