“Are you entertaining yourselves by erecting a sign at every high place?”
Tafsir
The people of the tribe of Ad were cruel and cruel people without mercy. These people would not take advice from anyone other than their own minds, they would not listen to anyone, and they lived as they pleased. In this situation, Hadrat Hud 'alaihis-salâm' did not refrain from continuing to warn his people. O my people! He said, "Do you erect buildings on every high hill or at every crossroads to show your strength to the people and mock the weak?
Allah (swt) bestowed great favors on the people of Ad and gave them many blessings. They used to build buildings in the middle of the roads as if they would never die, and they used to make fun of the people who came to visit Hadrat Hud (peace be upon him). He warned them about this situation and said, "O my people! Would you like it if someone came to visit you and your visitor was mocked? He said, "Give up these bad habits.

Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 128 You — do you erect a landmark on every high place and amuse yourselves? He erects a landmark on every high place. It doesn't say "he worships Me" — look, it says "are you amusing yourselves?" Yes, and you know too that this is of no use to you.
yes, you know very well that it is of no use to you and on every high place they build palaces — palaces; today in Saudi Arabia there are palaces on top of all the hills palaces, roads — even though no one ever goes inside: servants, planes, food, useless things.
What will come of this?
As they say, this realm did not remain with Sultan Suleiman, and Sultan Suleiman lived perhaps less than half of Noah's lifespan. This realm did not remain with Noah either.
He lived 1200 years. According to one narration, he lived 960 years until Noah's flood. And after that he lived another 1240 years. He lived another 120 years. Another 120 years. What does that make? That makes 1200 years. Is that so? Yes. He too finally tasted death. What did they say about Noah? From father to son: "This man doesn't die, don't believe his words." Yes. This world did not remain with them either. They too came, conveyed Allah's commands, and left. We too are not a guesthouse here. Death does not mean nonexistence. Just as we came into the world — we came from nothing. Do you know how you came?
No. In death, too, you will leave the body; the body — may Allah grant safety — sees a dream, and you will go on and go. A dream, exactly a dream. Until when? And when you leave it — oh, the Day of Judgment has come.
The wise among you will say: how many days did we lie? Some will say three days, some will say we lay about a day. Ask how long you lay under the earth — ask the noble angels in charge. Do you erect a landmark on every high place and amuse yourselves? The people of 'Ad were merciless, murderous and cruel people. These people took no advice from anyone apart from their own minds, did not listen to anyone, and lived as their whims dictated. Even so, Hud (peace be upon him) did not cease warning his people. "O my people! On every high hill or at every road's opening do you erect buildings to show people your power, and mock the weak?" he said.
Allah Almighty showed great favors to the people of 'Ad and offered them many blessings. With the worldly blessings in their hands, in the middle of roads they would build themselves buildings as if they would never die. They would also mock and make fun of the people who came to visit Hud (peace be upon him). Warning them about these ways of theirs: "O people, you — if someone came to visit you and your visitor were mocked, would you like that? Give up these bad habits of yours," he said. Yes.
