Tafsir

Prophet Salih wanted to warn this unjust people by informing them of Allah. He said, "Do you not avoid disobeying Allah? Because these people were also fond of their pleasures and built solid buildings for themselves on earth as if they would never die.

The tribe of Thamud were skilled in the art of building houses. They carved mountains and rocks and built buildings for themselves out of them. In this respect, they were inclined towards the world and they used to build for themselves as if they would never die. Since they were a people who did not recognize Allah and the Prophet, Allah Ta'ala gave them warnings through the Prophet Salih from among them.

Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 142: their brother Salih had said to them, "Will you not beware of opposing Allah?" Yes, idolaters worship idols. The prophet Salih wants to warn this unjust people by making them aware of Allah, he said, "Will you not beware of opposing Allah?" Because these people too were devoted to their pleasures and, as if they would never die, in the world they would build themselves solid buildings. The people of Thamud were reportedly skilled in the art of building houses. They would carve the mountains — the mountains, or the rocks in the city, at the corner, in the neighborhood they would carve the rocks and build themselves palaces.

They were reportedly very strong, powerful people. Yes. They would carve mountains and rocks and build buildings for themselves from them. Therefore, inclined to the world and as if they would never die, they kept building buildings for themselves. Since they were a community that recognized neither Allah nor prophet, Allah Almighty warned them too through the prophet Salih from among themselves. Yes.
