Do not make your oaths to Allah excuses against keeping your promises, abstaining (from sins) and reconciling people. Verily, Allah is Samee (All-Hearing) and Aleem (All-Knowing).

Tafsir

Allah is protecting us by saying that if you do a good deed, we will forgive your small shortcomings, but if you hold me as a witness and you blame your shortcomings and mistakes on me by swearing to me, I will punish you. People take Allah as a witness for the truthfulness of their words in order to convince others. This is not a correct behavior. Many times people swear when they speak. With these oaths, they take Allah as a witness. In this case, they want people to accept the truth of their words. As if Allah does not know or hear what we say. In this regard, no one wants to calculate that by taking an oath, we will become liars in the sight of Allah.

If we resort to lies or swear to Allah as a witness to our incomplete and inaccurate accounts of events, we will be liars in the sight of Allah. Allah knows the full and clear picture of events, we do not. If we take Allah as a witness to say that we know the full meaning of the events that we have learned half-assedly, in order to convince the people in front of us, we will be sinners. In this respect, let us be careful in our speech and not make Allah the target of our words. A person should be in such a state that he should reassure the other person and that the other person should believe everything he says. This is the kind of servants Allah wants people to be.

There are some people whose mouths are used to oaths. They swear every now and then, saying, "I swear by God I will do this, I swear by God I will do that. They are always promising something. If you do not keep your promises in such conversations, you will be a sinner and, God forbid, your faith will be shaken. Because if you take Allah as a witness and do not take what you are going to do seriously, your faith in Allah will diminish and you will become a sinner. That is why Allah says: "Do not aim at Allah in your oaths, Allah is All-Hearing and All-Knowing".

What is said in the video

We have come to Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 224. Praise be to Allah, we have been explaining for years, more or less. It has been a year, I think, since we began the commentary. We are still at Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 224. As long as we live, we will try to enlighten you with Allah's verses. People pass judgment according to their minds. If judgments were made according to minds, Allah Almighty would never have sent the Holy Quran before us. So when we pass judgments, we will judge in the light of the verses. If we step outside this, since the mind is deficient, it always speaks deficiently. By judging according to minds, we turn the religion of Islam into reaction and anarchy. And that is what is happening.

the religion of Islam falls into a state of reaction and anarchy. Falsehood, well, is trying to spread its cover over the truth. But this is a light Allah placed in the human heart, so that however much people try to cover that falsehood over the truth, over the true word, even if they try to cover it, the beam of that (?) light can tear through that falsehood. People understand that it is falsehood. Those who say it become sinners. Yes.

Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 224: So that you keep your word, become people of taqwa, and set things right between people, do not make Allah the target of your oaths. Allah hears and knows perfectly. Now in a person's speech: by Allah it's like this, by Allah like that, there is no such thing, I can't manage it. In nothing make Allah witness to the truth of your word. Why not? Because however truthfully you speak, (?) according to the higher station it is deficient, and because you made Allah witness too, you fall into sin. Into sin. If the person in front of you believes your word, he believes; if not, he does not.

Why do you swear and make Allah witness? You are dragging yourself to destruction. If you have grown used to such oaths, if your tongue has such a habit, try to stop it. It may be. One must keep away from these.

So that you keep your word, become people of taqwa, and set things right between people, do not make Allah the target of your oaths. Allah hears and knows perfectly. So, Allah protecting us: if you are going to do something good, your small shortcomings We forgive. But if you make Me witness, if by swearing by Me you load a deficient error of yours onto Me, I will punish you, He says. If you load your error onto Allah Almighty by swearing. You are both in error, and to people that, the word you will say, you try to make them believe by making Allah witness.

In the end Allah Almighty says: I too will punish you.

For the truth of their own words, to convince the people in front of them, people make Allah witness. This is not right behavior.

People often swear when they speak. 'By Allah, I did this like this.' Whereas he did not. Just to make him believe. 'By Allah, I said this to him about that.' Whereas he did not say it. Well. You know, like this. Words like these have accustomed people's mouths to oaths. To make him believe that he is telling the truth, he calls Allah as witness. He is ashamed before this person, well, and tries to prove to him that he did it this way, yet that he will come before Allah and be responsible for what he said, he disregards. What a bad thing. In this situation they want to make people accept the truth of their words.

As if Allah does not know or hear what we say. What the living beings to come until the Last Day will do, Allah Almighty knows. In this respect, that our swearing will make us liars in Allah's sight, no one wants to reckon. That is, he said it in this world, it came and went; of course, I forgot. Every word that comes out of our mouths, these that we have reflected, these (?), just like a camera, as we (?) reflect, our Lord freezes it. From our childhood, from our (?), until we die, He brings our life before our eyes. Now all of you must have seen a plane flying very high leave a white trail behind it.

What is this? How does it happen? When it flies low you cannot see this trail. Whereas this is (?). It is (?) the exhaust gives off. But it is hot, the air is hot too, in that heat you cannot see this (?). But high up, 50,000, 60,000 feet up you have climbed. You have climbed to 15,000, 20,000, 30,000 feet.

In this case up there there are colds of minus sixty, seventy degrees, there are colds of eighty, ninety degrees. What comes out of the exhaust freezes there instantly. You see it there, you see that freezing. So Allah Almighty too, with His knowledge, our images that we reflect with our speech He freezes, and in the world of the hereafter, every moment and second of ours, without any escape, showing us what we did, He will show us what we did. If we know it this way.

We grasp that there is no place where Allah does not see us and behave accordingly. This was lived best by the one who came as a mercy to the worlds, the master of the two worlds, the Prophet Muhammad, and what does Allah Almighty say in the verse? O Prophet, wrapped in your garment, lying down. Wrapped in the garment that symbolizes life, lying down, Prophet. So everything we say, every movement of ours, without going to waste, is on record. On record. We must behave accordingly. In this situation too, in no way, about what we say and do, making Allah Almighty witness with an oath, let us not speak. When you tell a lie without an oath or say something incompletely, through pardon, forgiveness and repentance Allah forgives you. But the moment you make your Lord witness, since you made Him witness to that person, Allah will bear witness against you regarding that person; no question about it. He will make it known to that very person: he said such and such.

That is why I will punish you, He says. Look how beautiful: I will punish. Never make Allah witness when you speak.

When telling events we have half learned or heard, we resort to lies, or, in your telling events incompletely and wrongly, by also making Allah witness, by swearing, we fall into the state of liars in Allah's sight. Allah knows the essence of events fully and clearly. We cannot know. Two people are fighting. One seems more in the right than the other by his words. But truly only Allah knows who is right between these two. The other perhaps cannot defend himself. Perhaps the other is truly right. Yes. This is where we can be mistaken. So what do judges do so as not to be mistaken? They gather evidence. They do not rely solely on the persons' words; they gather the evidence.

They decide according to that evidence. Yes, if, saying we fully know events we have half learned, to entertain the people in front of us, we make Allah witness, we become sinners. In this respect, by paying attention to our speech, let us (?) Allah in our words. A person should be in such a state that he gives confidence to the one in front of him, and the person in front of him should believe everything he says. If a person truly has character, if a person has truly, with his words, to the people in front of him, that they are right, and that as a person of character he will not lie, made people feel this, those people believe his words without his swearing.

A person should be in such a state that he gives confidence to the one in front of him, and the person in front of him should believe everything he says. Allah Almighty wants people to be such servants. That is, He wants them to have character. In this respect, without making Me witness, among yourselves, He says, trusting one another, by securing your trust, without lying, as a community become firm, unite, He says.

There are some people whose mouths have become used to oaths. They swear every other moment. 'By Allah I'll do this, by Allah I'll do that', he keeps saying. He keeps speaking, promising something. In such talk of ours too, if you do not keep your promise, you become sinners. And, Allah protect us, your creed is shaken. Because if you make Allah your witness and then disregard the work you will do, your belief in Allah decreases and a person becomes a sinner. His faith weakens. That is why Allah Almighty says: you, in your oaths, do not make Allah the target; Allah is hearing and knowing, He says.

Yes.
