Say; “Who is the one to save you from the darkness on land and on the sea? While you are in that situation, you pray to Allah secretly and openly by saying ‘verily, if You save us from this (danger), we surely will be among the grateful ones’.”

Tafsir

Darkness on land and sea means that when a calamity befalls people on land or sea, or anywhere else, and they are in dire straits, they call upon their Mawlana, who is the Truth. Because every mind is created with the knowledge of Allah, it knows that only Allah, the One, can save it from these dangers. Secretly and openly, he supplicates to Allah as follows. They say, 'O Allah, if you save me from these dangers, we shall surely be among the thankful.

What is said in the video

Say: who saves you from the darknesses of the land and the sea? In the sea and on land.

With His verses Allah Almighty: wave upon wave, it says. Darknesses upon darknesses. Almost, it says, a person stretches out his hand and cannot see it, it says. Then, making the religion sincerely for Allah alone, it says, you pray. But when We save you from there, some of you take a middle course, and some of you turn your backs and go, it says. Yes.

So, who saves you from the darknesses of the land and the sea? In this state you pray to Allah, in secret and openly, like this: By Allah, if You save us from this danger, we will surely be among the grateful, it says. That danger: in the sea, wave upon wave, about to drown in the middle of the oceans.

What is meant by the darknesses of the land and the sea: when a disaster befell people on land, at sea or anywhere at all, in difficult situations, when they fall into difficult situations, people beg their true Master; they beg.

(?) they beg as well.

Because every mind is created as a knower of Allah, it knows that only that one Allah will save it from these dangers. In secret and openly, it entreats Allah like this: O my Allah, if You save me from these dangers, I swear I will be among the grateful, it says. Yes, I will be among the grateful.

But, after that danger has gone, as if it had never lived through it, it goes back to its old state again. (?) does it resemble? Now, in summer some places are very dry. And the soil cracks here and there. It cracks.

For three months, four months, it has not rained.

Let it rain on this soil for ten minutes, fifteen minutes. Or let it rain for half an hour. Give ninety kilograms, a hundred kilograms, a hundred and twenty kilograms of rain per square metre. Half an hour later the cloud goes, the sun comes out; those 100 to 120 kilograms of water that fell on that square metre disappear after a few hours, and again the soil, waterless and dry, the cracks here and there again appear. Half an hour, an hour later. Why, these cracks never disappeared at all. Because without soaking into that soil, the water ran off over it, passed through the cracks and went, and that soil gained no benefit from it.

So what was its benefit? That the rain cooled it for a moment; it was mercy. That is how, when Allah Almighty saves us from those darknesses, we again, that mercy rains upon us, we are saved from those darknesses. As if that rain had never fallen, just as that soil goes back to its old state, we too go back to our old state.

Now, does this befit a human being? A human being with a conscience. What does it resemble? A person does a kindness to another person. Even if he expects nothing from the person he did the kindness to, if that person turns his back on him and goes, he is hurt. Yes. Toward Allah, who feeds you, gives you drink, (?) from nothing, grants you a good life, who in your lifetime grants you every kind of provision, (?). In your hard moments you turn to Him. Then, after He saves you from there, you again (?) your back.

This is truly a very sad thing.
