Yunus 12: When harm comes upon man, he prays to Us, laying on his sides or while standing. But when We alleviate the harm from him, he just strides, as if he did not pray to Us for the loss that touched him. For transgressors, their actions appear attractive.

Translation

When harm comes upon man, he prays to Us, laying on his sides or while standing. But when We alleviate the harm from him, he just strides, as if he did not pray to Us for the loss that touched him. For transgressors, their actions appear attractive.

Tafsir

When people are in distress because they do not believe in Allah or because of their weakness of faith, they feel depressed, they are overwhelmed by the loss of their worldly possessions or the restrictions in their lives, and they turn to Allah and beg Him. This distress is too much for their nafs, so when they are sitting, lying down, lying on their sides, they are affected by the events that haunt them, and they pray to Allah (swt) to relieve them of this distress. When Allah (swt) rescues them from their distress, they turn their backs and go away, as if they had not sought help from Allah (swt), as if they had been rescued from their distress by their own efforts, and as if the blessings that Allah (swt) has bestowed upon them were their own right.

However, when a person borrows a sum of money from another person or has someone do something for him that is beyond his ability, the person to whom he has done the work thanks the other person for the kindness he has received from the other person. However, out of the selfishness, pride and arrogance in people's souls, they neither praise nor remember Allah, the One who saved them from their troubles, as a debt of gratitude. It is as if it is not that person who is suffering. The hardships are one thing. For the life, health, wealth and well-being that Allah has bestowed upon human beings, does one not pray to his Lord, praise and thank Him?

Because these people are transgressors, the filth that they are doing is tolerated by their character, and they will be sent to their rightful places in the presence of Allah in return for what they have done with the burden of sin they have committed by transgressing the limits.

What is said in the video

Surah Yunus, verse 12, a wrongly explained verse; we have corrected it. Let's see, what does the wrongly explained verse say? Surah Yunus, verse 12.

When harm touches man, lying on his side, sitting or standing, he prays to Us for that harm to be removed. Correct up to here. But when We remove his hardship from him, he passes on as if he had never prayed to Us because of a hardship that touched him.

This is correct too. Where is the mistake? There's more. To those who transgress (?), what they were doing has been made to look good. The mistake is here.

It says: to the transgressors, what they did has been made to look good. Now I ask you. If this is Allah, and if Allah wants His will to manifest upon that person this way, who can prevent it? No one can prevent it. If what they were doing was made to look good to them, well, if You hadn't made it look good to me, I wouldn't have done it, this person would say. So, to the transgressors, the things they do look good, look good — what are we saying here? Sir, the things they are doing look good to them. Yes, it looks good to him. Because his nafs is rebellious against Allah. He has a character that will not be governed by Allah's verses.

If he is a plunderer, a plunderer; if a thief, a thief; if a pickpocket, a pickpocket; if a drinker, a drinker; if a gambler, a gambler. That is, according to his longing, according to his longing, he is inclined to them. He finds them good and goes for it. He goes for it. He finds it good. So in this case, is it Allah who makes it look good to him? See, these have all been explained wrongly. Explained wrongly. Because people do not believe in Allah, or from weakness of faith, when some hardship befalls them, they feel distressed. Overwhelmed by the straits in their (?) worldly goods or by the restrictions in their living, they turn to Allah and plead constantly.

When this hardship weighs heavily on their nafs, while sitting, while lying on their sides, affected by events they cannot get out of their minds, they constantly pray to Allah Almighty to be saved from this hardship. When Allah Almighty saves them from this hardship, as if these people had not hoped for help from Allah, as if they had escaped these hardships by their own efforts, and as if the blessings Allah granted them were their own rights, they turn their backs and walk away. Not even once do they give thanks. Look, when you were distressed by hardship, when you found no help from people either, when you opened your palms at home, you begged Allah, didn't you?

You knew your Creator, you laid your face at His door, didn't you? So when He brings you to safety, doesn't a person give thanks? Is a person unable to give thanks to Allah, to the One who created him? In this case: I went through so much hardship. This was my right anyway. I was going to get this anyway — with words like that, where have you hidden Allah's help to you? Yes.

Yet this person borrows a sum of money from someone, or someone does a job for him that he cannot do, and people, for the kindness they receive from the other side, thank the person in front of them. Isn't that so? From Kenan Hodja — first, Kenan Hodja, I need ten thousand lira, twenty thousand lira. If you have it, would you give it to me for a month, two months? Of course, Hodja. Here you go. I took it. When I give it back: may Allah be pleased with you.

I needed it at that moment, he says; you came to my aid in time. May Allah turn what you touch into gold. May Allah bless your life. A person prays — even though he took this from his friend. And if your Lord removes your hardship, struck by disasters no human hand could fix, will you not thank Him at all? Will you not pray to Him at all?

Wasn't man supposed to be capable? Wasn't man made worthy of Allah's address? Well, if you forget your Lord, if you turn your back on the blessings your Lord gave, and your Lord still keeps giving to you, how will you appear before Him tomorrow at the Great Tribunal? Go on, Hodja — if I had (?) them anyway, events like these (?) (?), I gave thanks to Him. So these are the ones in doubt about the hereafter. Yes. Aren't there any in Islam? Plenty among Muslims.

Nafs-i mutmainna — up to what point? Nafs-i mutmainna — up to what point?

Ask any Muslim you like. Which Muslim (?) the hereafter. But because he is in Islam, because he has not left Islam, he is a Muslim. He is a Muslim. No one can tell him: you are an unbeliever. But there may be hesitation. His nafs has not reached perfection. If it had reached perfection, he would be a believer. So in some places Allah Almighty addresses the believers. And to the Prophet (peace be upon him) He says: pray for the believer. He who never speaks idly, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) — although he came as a mercy to the worlds, although he was sent as a mercy to the worlds, couldn't Allah Almighty have told him: pray for Islam, pray for the Muslim?

He says: pray for the believer, the believer. Because the believers are people with no (?), honoured with Allah's being, and people of Paradise. Believers. Pray for the believer. If He had said: pray for the Muslim, by the blessing of his prayer no Muslim would enter Hell. Yes.

Tomorrow, on the Day of Judgment, in the face of so many blessings of our Lord, people at the Great Tribunal — on that day the judgment is Allah's alone, as the verse says — with no partner, no helper, the judgment being His alone, concerning people, on a day when what they earned with their two hands will be given to them in full — before Allah Almighty how will you appear? With what face will you appear? Won't you be ashamed? So give thanks for what Allah has given. Pray to Allah. My Lord, do not make us dependent on (?). O Allah, we have laid our faces at Your door. Do not bring our backs to the ground.

Do not let our faces be blackened. Keep us with Yourself, under Your mercy. Grant us to reach You on a straight path. Say it, that is. Say it. Pray to your Lord. Yes.

But out of the ego, pride and arrogance in all people, to Allah who saves them from hardship they neither once turn and give praise as a debt of gratitude, nor do they remember Him. As if he was not the one who suffered hardship. Hardships aside, for the life, health, wealth and good things Allah has granted people, won't a person pray to his Lord and give thanks with praise and glory? So much wealth, so much property He has given, so many children, grandchildren and so on He has given. Won't a person thank Him? So since these people, by such conduct, are transgressors, the filth they are doing looks pleasant to them by the dictates of their character.

It looks pleasant by the dictates of their own character. And these people, settling accounts, with the load of sin they wished for, as the recompense for what they did, are called to account in the divine presence.
