Jethro (Shuayb) had said to them, “won’t you abstain (from rebelling against Allah)?”
Tafsir
Shu'ayb 'alaihis-salâm' was a Prophet sent to the people of Medyen. He gave one of his daughters to Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' while he was in Medyen.
The paternal mother of Hadrat Shu'ayb 'alaihis-salâm' was the daughter of Hadrat Lot 'alaihis-salâm'. Shu'ayb 'alaihis-salâm' belonged to a tribe of believers who had migrated to Damascus with Hadrat Ibrahim 'alaihis-salâm'. Allah (swt) also sent Shu'ayb as a Prophet to the people of Ayka. Since he was not from the people of Ayka, they were not related to him by descent. That is why Allah did not use the term "brothers" for the people of Ayka in relation to Shu'ayb.
So Shu'ayb (peace be upon him) addressed this people, informing them of Allah's commands and commanding them to beware of Allah.
What is said in the video
In Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 177, too, Shuayb said to them: Will you not guard against opposing Allah? Note, all prophets say the same words. Will you not guard against opposing Allah? Now, the prophets — since they are outside the religion of Islam, outside the commands of Allah that their prophets brought — because they invite them to Allah, say these words. Will you not guard against opposing Allah? Yes.
Well, to these Muslims too — not 'I am a Muslim' —
we too call out to them like this: Will you not fear opposing Allah's commands, will you not guard against it?
Allah Almighty, when one recites the shahada, has set the five pillars of Islam. You will pray, you will fast, you will give zakat, you will go on hajj, you will recite the shahada. Two cost money, three are free. If you have money, you go; if you have no money, He doesn't tell you that you must come here. Deeds depend on intentions. Now, in this situation: saying 'I am a Muslim', but no prayer, no fasting, no hajj, well, a bare, dry shahada. Then,
even when you recite that shahada,
there are those who recite it with embarrassment. With embarrassment. There are those who admire the ways of non-Muslims and praise them to the skies. And this is called a Muslim too. Yes.
Shuayb (peace be upon him) is a prophet sent to the people of Midian. While in Midian, he gave one of his daughters to Moses (peace be upon him). Shuayb (peace be upon him). When Moses killed a Copt, from Pharaoh he withdraws. That night a messenger says, they are looking for you. So he sets out into the deserts, and to Shuayb (peace be upon him) he comes. It is said they were distantly related too. Shuayb (peace be upon him) understands that he is a prophet. He understands that he will be a prophet.
On condition that you stay with me, on condition that you serve me for 8 years, as the dowry, I will give you one of my daughters, he says. Accepted, he says. But between us, 10 years, meaning 2 more years, to that agreement, he says. It depends on how things stand at the end of 8 years, he says. I mean, 10 years is fine too. But we, for 8 years, with you will stay together. We will serve you. He had animals. He waters his animals. He looks after them. He marries his daughter. Finally, while returning to Egypt, at night in the Sinai desert he sees our Lord in the form of a fire and receives the mission.
Like this. Let's read it again. Shuayb (peace be upon him) is a prophet sent to the people of Midian. While in Midian, he gave one of his daughters to Moses (peace be upon him). And the giving happens like this. Its real cause, too: like tired ones, when he comes to a (?), (?). He sees two girls waiting with their cows. Whoever comes waters his animal and leaves. Whoever comes waters his animal. This catches his attention. Why don't you water them, he says. We, they say, do not go among the men, they say. After they have watered, we will water our animals, they say. He takes the animals and waters them.
He gives them back theirs. Off you go, he says. When they tell their father about this, their father says, bring him here.
In this way he gets to know Shuayb (peace be upon him). That's how it is.
The paternal grandmother of Shuayb (peace be upon him) is the daughter of Lot (peace be upon him).
Shuayb (peace be upon him) belongs to a tribe that emigrated to Damascus with Abraham (peace be upon him), a believing tribe. Moreover, Allah Almighty also sent Shuayb (peace be upon him) as a prophet to the people of Aykah. Since he himself was not of the people of Aykah, they had no kinship by lineage either. Therefore Allah Almighty, for the people of Aykah, concerning Shuayb (peace be upon him), used the address 'their brother'. My brothers. So Shuayb (peace be upon him) too, addressing this people, conveyed Allah's commands and commanded them to be wary of Allah.
Yes.
