“If you are among the truthful ones, make it rain pieces from the sky upon us.”
Tafsir
The people of Ayka not only denied Shu'ayb's Prophethood, but they also said, "If you are truthful, rain down on us a torment from the sky. These people could not find anything else to ask for, so they asked for Allah's punishment. Since the people of Ayka asked for this calamity, Allah (swt) gave them this calamity. Had they asked Allah for mercy instead of punishment, or had they believed in Allah and the Hereafter and obeyed His Prophets, Allah is not unjust to punish them. Allah is All-forgiving and All-merciful. Allah loves His servants so much that He will forgive them their sins upon repentance. But this people not only did not know Allah, but they wished for Allah's torment.
What is said in the video
Verse 187, of Surah Ash-Shu'ara verse 187.
Aykah: If you are one of the truthful, make a punishment from the sky rain down on us.
And it is raining, it did rain. Look, they themselves are asking for their own destruction. Yes. The people of Aykah did not stop at calling Shu'ayb a liar and denying his prophethood. Moreover: If you are truthful, rain down a punishment on us from the sky, they said. These people could not find anything worth asking for. They wished for Allah's punishment. Exactly. If it's something else, say: rain down a mercy on us from the sky. Say: rain down a blessing on us — ask for something, that is. Like: make a stream flow around here, say something like that. Rain down punishment. How he uses the words he deserves.
And what do non-Muslims say? Go to hell, they say. He's going to hell anyway. The unbeliever never stops talking about the fire of hell. Everyone talks about their own (?). Since these people of Aykah themselves asked for the calamity that befell them, Allah Almighty gave them this destruction. If only they had asked Allah for mercy instead of punishment, or had believed in Allah and the Hereafter and to their prophet been obedient! Allah is not unjust, that He would punish them. Allah is much forgiving of repentance and the possessor of vast mercy. Because Allah loves His servants so much, He forgives them their sins with one repentance.
But just as this people did not know Allah, they also wished for Allah's punishment.
