And the poets, they are followed by the transgressors.
Tafsir
As for the poets, they make up qualities that people do not have, and they live off the backs of people as parasites by reciting poetry that pleases people and flatters their ego. Such people are followed by perverted people who flatter their ego and live far away from Allah and think of themselves as proud and great. They enjoy their poetry and follow the poets, give them tips and make them praise and admire them.
What is said in the video
So we have come to Surah Ash-Shu'ara, verse 224.
As for the poets, it says, the poets: them the misguided follow, it says, the misguided. Why do the misguided follow? It calls them misguided too. Most of the misguided are people in pride, arrogance, egotism, and the whims of the nafs. Those chasing fame and glory. Poets praise such people. These, out of the pleasure of that praise, bestow gifts on the poets. Allah Almighty calls them misguided too.
Yet there are seven things to which Allah Almighty is (?) hostile. What are they? Fame, glory, pride, arrogance, egotism, the whims of the nafs, love of the world.
As long as these are found in a person,
that person carries within himself traits Allah Almighty does not want. A person struggles against these.
If he walks in the way of Allah with faith upon the straight path, he masters most of them. He doesn't lie, doesn't become proud, isn't carried away by fame, isn't arrogant. But if he cannot give up love of the world, all the nafs-driven feelings he struggled with sprout again. But if he only breaks the head of love of the world, those six traits collapse on their own. Because it is through love of the world that a person becomes proud, arrogant and goes after fame. He hides behind a title, puts the title forward, says: I am so-and-so. Yet he is neither worthy of that title's glory nor a person who truly holds that title.
As we always say, a man has done a doctorate, yet knows nothing of the verses.
And they set out to deny what we say.
As for the poets, these people too invent traits people do not have, and by reciting poems that please people and flatter their nafs they live as parasites off people's backs.
Such people are followed by misguided people who indulge their nafs and, living far from Allah, see themselves in pride and grandeur. They enjoy these men's poems, go after the poems and give them tips and have themselves praised and extolled. They gather the people, have the poet brought up, have the person praised there, and he, out of pride and arrogance, gives him a tip. Yes.
