They are the ones whose punishment is the most severe. And they are the ones who are at the greatest loss in the hereafter.
Tafsir
Those who disbelieve in the Hereafter and turn to the world, those who sacrifice their honor and dignity for the worldly goods, those who disbelieve in Allah and the Hereafter and mock the people of faith, those who worship objects created by Allah and seek help from them, these are the people whose punishment in the Hereafter will be the severest.
It is these people who will suffer the greatest loss. Because they ate and drank what Allah gave them and did not give thanks to Allah. Although Allah made His Essence known to these people, they turned their backs on Allah. They took Allah's creatures as partners to Allah and sought help from them. In the Hereafter, on the Day of Reckoning, when all souls are taken to account, when they see that their wealth does not benefit such people who are in the darkness of shirk, and when they abandon the idols they worship and ask for from others besides Allah, they will realize that they have suffered loss when they are left alone and desolate in the Hereafter.

We left off at verse 5 of Surah An-Naml. In verse 5, Allah Almighty: these are the ones. Who are they? Those whose punishment is the severest. Who are those whose punishment is the severest? Non-Muslims.
Those whose punishment is the severest. A Muslim too may perhaps enter Hell, but his punishment is not severe. Yes.
When the punishment is severe, what do we understand? Severe punishment.
In Hell there are many places of punishment. There are prisons. That too is a punishment. Muslims will stay in prison.
Non-Muslims will burn in the fire. Punishment.
And even greater than that:
They will remain on red-hot stones, bound with iron chains. They will remain on flaming red-hot stones.
In this case, the severest punishment is theirs, it says. To whom? To non-Muslims. When we say non-Muslims, we mean people who, outside Islam, outside the kalima ash-shahada, pass on to the hereafter. Those whose punishment is the severest. Yes.
And they are the ones who will suffer the greatest loss in the hereafter, it says. The greatest loss. Now, you go bankrupt. A Muslim's bankruptcy.
How much? A thousand lira, fifteen hundred lira, two thousand lira, five thousand lira. This is something a Muslim can work and pay off. So if a Muslim, with the light of faith, enters Hell, that faith will reach perfection, and he will come out of there. But then there is one who is in over his head; whatever he does, he is in no position to pay it. The man has run up debts of 50 trillion, 100 trillion — how will he (?) this? He is in no position to pay. What happens then? They stay forever. So eternity is the state of those who, outside Islam, outside Islam, pass on to the hereafter, and those who suffer the greatest ruin, the greatest loss, will be them.
Because they no longer have any chance of profit. That is, according to the covenant they gave, they will no longer turn back to Islam. And in the hereafter, that is, they will be raised blind, as they say; in fact, although they saw Allah Almighty at the address Elestü bi Rabbiküm, when they pass on to the realm of the hereafter too, although Allah Almighty is still there, Eleysallâhu bi-ahkemi'l-hâkimîn, if they still wait for the Lord of their own imagination, then if they are not blind there, what are they? Outwardly, but this outward, in the outward sense, in the figurative sense. They are blind, deaf and, well, mute.
Now in this case, who will suffer the greatest loss? Why them? Allah Almighty sent a prophet here. A (?) man. He gave you a good mind. He sent you a prophet. He sent you a book. I am not in the time of the Prophet. The prophets are gone. Well, He sent you scholars. In his place He sent heirs. The heirs tell the truth. The verses tell it. Well, in this case you have a mind. This universe has a creator. There is a creator. And that creator has sent you a book. Leave the Prophet aside. Let us say the Prophet has passed. You know, since after the Seal of the Prophets, Muhammad (peace be upon him), no prophet will come again, the Prophet has passed.
But he has heirs. Right here are the verses. There is the Quran. There is His book. It tells you. Well, you have a mind.
A person who does not use his mind, whose nafs-driven feelings overpower his mind, and who lives (?) with the pleasures and delights of the worldly realm he enjoys — certainly, in the realm of the hereafter, facing our Lord's questioning and interrogation, since he finds not a single word to say, still the Lord he imagined would save him.
