Translation

And although they believed in these with certainty, they denied them due to their persecution and arrogance. See how is the end of the mischievous ones.

Tafsir

Although the miracles shown by Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' made them realize that a human being could not be made by magic or sorcery, that Allah exists and that Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' was the messenger of Allah, they did not turn to the Truth because of their position and authority, their arrogance and pride.

Because this is a people who are accustomed to making people work for them and living off their backs by oppressing them. These are people who are cruel both to those around them and to their own selves.

If they are disobedient and disobey Allah despite Allah's warnings, if they disobey Allah, if they deny the existence of Allah, if they disobey the Prophet, if they disregard Allah's laws in order to satisfy their own desires, if they act as if they are free in the realm of property and there is no owner of this property, then Allah will destroy such people.

Indeed, after such warnings, He destroyed Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, leaving such people as a remembrance and a lesson for future generations.

Verse fourteen. What does it say? Though they themselves were firmly convinced of them. Who are the ones of whom it says "they themselves were firmly convinced"? Pharaoh's henchmen. Pharaoh. Although they too were firmly convinced, out of their wrongdoing and arrogance they denied them. What? The miracles that Moses had shown — they denied them. Out of their arrogance, their pride. "See what the end of the corrupters was," it says. Just look. What happened in the end? Allah Almighty destroyed all of them in the Red Sea. Although they grasped that the miracles shown by Moses (peace be upon him) could not be done by a (?) magic or sorcery, that Allah exists and that Moses (peace be upon him) is Allah's messenger, because of their rank and position, their arrogance and pride, they did not turn to the truth.

Because this people are people accustomed to making others work for them and, by oppressing them, living off the backs of those people.

Pharaoh's henchmen, his own folk — and Moses, since he grew up at Pharaoh's side, of course they look down on him too. Then, because he killed a Copt — by pushing, unintentionally — he was separating them. He stepped between two people. Yet in one narration that Copt is seen as a devil. Not the Copt. The weak one, from his own people. He is seen as the weak one, from Moses' people. And the Copt is strong and powerful. "Let me separate them," he says. Let me separate them, and when he pushes, you see, the man's foot catches on a stone, he falls, and dies of a brain hemorrhage. He will be killed in retaliation. Fearing this, Moses leaves.

Again one day, in the same way, as Moses is going along, he sees that same person again fighting with someone. So he goes, "It was you," he says, he says like this. While he is scolding him, of course the other one runs away. Now what does it say? Out of their arrogance and pride they did not turn to the truth. Who is this? Pharaoh and Pharaoh's henchmen. Because this people are people accustomed to making others work for them and, by oppressing them, living off the backs of those people. These are people who are oppressive both toward those around them and toward their own nafs. Now why are they oppressive both to those around them and to themselves?

Allah Almighty gave man a mind. Man's mind is not complete and perfect. In this case, since Allah Almighty created man deficient — deficient — man can make mistakes. The moment he sees what is right, he must go over to what is right. If he does not go over to what is right, but out of arrogance and pride still begins to stubbornly support and defend falsehood, this person wrongs his own nafs. The man satisfies his nafs, true. In this world he satisfies his own nafs by oppressing others, but in the hereafter, in the presence of Allah Almighty, our Lord, before His justice, if he went as a non-Muslim, to eternal hell.

If he went as a Muslim, again to hell, for the punishment he will receive for his oppression.

What happened? The person wronged himself, his own nafs. For your nafs, in this world you want to own yachts, palaces, mansions, estates. You want to ride in the finest cars. You are going to satisfy your nafs. In that case, the life of the hereafter, of the abode of eternal bliss — why do you not want your own nafs to be satisfied with it? Because the nafs does nothing for Allah, that is why. You are to reform your nafs anyway, so that you return to your Lord. Otherwise you cannot know your Lord. If Allah had not given man a nafs, man would be content with a state like vegetative life.

What is the nafs? Apart from plant life, all living beings that will eat, drink, have intercourse and reproduce, that can move from place to place with desire and want, that is, can roam about — all of them are subject to the nafs. In this case, the animals that wrong one another, in the hereafter, after taking their rights from one another, you see, will vanish; as for people, there they will be divided into three groups: one group paradise, the other, more righteous, paradise — there are the righteous servants, prophets, prophets, martyrs, the (?) group. And one group to hell. Yes. In the abode of eternal bliss, does the person who earns hell not wrong his own nafs?

Even if you lived in the most splendid realm of this world, even if this world were your estate — the heavens and the earth and what is between them have known the remembrance of your Lord, according to the verse. Allah Almighty created these worlds. Every soul will taste death. According to the verse: the inheritance of the heavens and the earth will remain with Allah. What will you do? You will leave it all and journey from here to the hereafter. Then you will be called to account in the presence of Allah Almighty. Like a merchant who has (?), you will end up in hell. Yes. So those who do not listen like this and, although Allah warns them, go against Allah, who knowingly deny Allah's existence and do not obey the prophet, who, to satisfy the desires of their own nafs, do not recognize Allah's laws, and act in the realm of possession aimlessly, as if the realm had no owner — such people Allah Almighty destroys.

Indeed, after so many warnings — that is, nine miracles — Pharaoh, who did not come round after so many warnings, and his army He destroyed in the Red Sea, and He left such people to future generations as a sign and a lesson. Yes. Surah Yunus, verse 90, I think. Find it there, let me see. There. "Today We will leave your lifeless body as a lesson to the worlds," it says. How beautifully it puts it. Your lifeless body. Yes. We brought the Children of Israel across the sea, but Pharaoh and his soldiers pursued them to oppress and attack. At last, when drowning overtook him in the sea, Pharaoh: "Truly, that there is no God but the God the Children of Israel believe in, I too have come to believe.

I have believed. I too am of the Muslims," he said. "Now you believe?" says Allah Almighty. Whereas before you had rebelled and were among the corrupters.

So that you may be a lesson to those who come after you, today We will save your body lifeless. We will save it lifeless. And He did save it. Where? (?) In England. You see: "We will save." "And indeed many among people are heedless of Our verses," it says. Yes.

Yes.
