Al-A'raf 171: At one time, We elevated the mountain upon the sons of Israel like a cloud, and they thought that it would fall on them. We said; “Hold on to the Book firmly and remember what is written in it so that you will abstain.”

Verse 171: Once We raised the mountain over the Children of Israel like a shade, and they thought it would fall on them. Hold firmly the Book We have given you and remember what is in it, so that you may be protected, We said. What miracles Allah Almighty shows the Children of Israel, what miracles! As one of Allah Almighty's miracles, and making His being openly felt by people, so as to make known to future generations too Allah's existence and sovereignty, and that there is no god other than Him, to make it known to people, Allah Almighty raised Mount Tur so that, in the Sinai desert, over the Children of Israel suffering from the sun, it would provide shade.

Seeing this, the Children of Israel were both frightened and astonished. Moreover, they thought it would fall on them. That those who saw such, so many miracles, and their descendants still evade Allah, still say among people "We are the noble ones", and still discriminate by class among people, and with fairy-tale arrangements see themselves above all people and see people as there to serve them — this shows how base they are. In this situation, after Allah Almighty has proven His existence to this people in this way too: Hold firmly the Book We have given you. That is, do not step outside the verses We have made known to you in the Book.

And read this Book a lot. Against being turned away from Allah to false gods, to idols that would be associated as partners with Allah, to their worship, always remember this Book so that you may be protected, it says. Whoever is with Allah, holds fast to the Book He sent and to His Prophet and abides by it, Allah protects such people and in the Hereafter grants them abundant rewards and His mercy, and joins them to the ranks of the saved.
