When you travel throughout the land and if you fear that infidels may harm you, there is no sin for you to shorten the prayer. Indeed, the infidels are your open enemies.
Tafsir
When people pass through an enemy town or people, whether for business, visiting or traveling, there is nothing wrong with shortening your prayers so that no harm may come to you. The Prophet used to pray two rak'ahs of the obligatory prayers when he traveled a certain distance. This distance is five kilometers per hour on foot, which is eighteen hours, which is ninety kilometers from his place of residence, and then the expedition begins and he should pray the four rak'ahs of Zuhr, 'Asr and 'Isha prayers, two rak'ahs each.
Verily, the disbelievers are the manifest enemies of Islam. Since they are enemies of Allah and His Messenger, they are enemies of the Muslims. They will not stop dealing with Muslims until they convert them to their false beliefs.
O people! Your intellect is both a leader and a guide for you. You can distinguish between good and evil with your intellect. Do not abandon your side with Allah by being deceived by the blessings of this world, which is only a place of stay. Do not take your place with the enemies of Allah. Do not turn your back on Allah by acting with your nafs. Do not follow the path of Satan and his friends. Follow the path of the Verses of Allah and those who judge by them, which your intellect shows you and which you believe to be true when you hear the voice of truth, so that you may attain salvation and victory.
What is said in the video
We have come to verse 101. When you travel in the land, if you fear that the disbelievers will harm you, yes, there is no sin on you in shortening the prayer. Surely the disbelievers are your open enemy, it says.
Today we are watching this very clearly, we see it, but except for those who admire unbelief. Because their eyes are blind, their ears stopped, their hearts sealed; they do not want to see. The non-Muslims we consider closest, those who say: 'We are your friends, your friends, we are allies in NATO', each of them, with us together, even those who make concessions, quietly, quietly, hostility is what they practise. This, eyes that see, see today.
Even if you fitted millions of eyes to eyes that do not see, they still would not see.
How beautifully Allah Almighty puts it. When you travel in the land, if you fear that the disbelievers will harm you, there is no sin on you in shortening the prayer. Surely the disbelievers are your open enemy, it says.
Whether people travel for work, for a visit or for a journey, in whatever way it may be, when passing through a hostile land or among a hostile people, so that no harm reaches you, in shortening your prayers there is nothing wrong. When the Prophet went a certain distance on journeys, he prayed the obligatory prayers as two rak'ahs each. This distance is when, walking on foot at five kilometres an hour, eigh- teen hours' distance has been covered, that is, when one goes ninety kilometres from one's place of residence; then travel begins, and one prays the four-rak'ah noon, afternoon and night prayers as two rak'ahs each.
Surely the disbelievers are the open enemies of Islam. Since they are enemies of Allah and His Messenger, they are enemies of the Muslims too. Until they turn the Muslims to their own false beliefs, from working on them they will not desist. Isn't that so? Isn't that our situation?
We are Muslims. You know, the European Union makes up fifty thousand stories. Because there is a clause among them. What is that clause? No Muslim state may join us. However hard you try. You will not get in there. Even if you get in – if you join a certain power and they, seeing that power, give in and admit you – even then, like a worm that has got into a tree, that tree it tries to rot.
This must be known this way. And let it be known so.
Well then, Hodja, should we not do business with them?
Should we not talk to them at all? Doing business is a separate thing.
Trade is one thing, talking or not talking with them is another, friendship is another, friendship. Talking with a friend and (?) talking are different things. You have a friend, a true friend, you tell him things, but you talk with many people and cannot tell them what you tell your friend. Our friends are the Muslims. We have no friends apart from Muslims. But we do our trade, we talk. That is something else. We do not stir up strife on earth. Islam is not the strife of the earth. Islam wants, because they live by Allah's verses, to turn the earth into a festive atmosphere. That is the hallmark of Islam.
So Islam does not discriminate among the servants Allah has created.
Because every person – to prove what kind of person he is, Allah Almighty brought them into this world. So it makes no exception of any people either. It may be, (?) Allah Almighty, that that people is better than you. So one must pay close attention to words. A friend is one thing; those you talk to, do business and trade with, are another. Yes, O people, your reason is both your guide and your leader. With your reason you tell good from bad, and you act. Do not be deceived by the blessings of this world, which is a guesthouse, and abandon your attribute with Allah. Do not leave your rank beside Allah either.
Do not take your place beside Allah's enemies. Do not turn your back on Allah Almighty by acting on your nafs. Do not go the way Satan and his friends go. What your reason shows you, and what you believe to be right when you hear the voice of truth – keep on the way of Allah's verses and of living by them, so that keep on the way of those who live by them, so that you attain salvation and victory. Yes.
