Do they not see that they are tested once or twice every year (with calamities)? And then, they don’t repent, and they don’t take lesson.
Tafsir
Allah (swt) does not intend cruelty to people, so He gives one or two calamities a year to those who wander in error and do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, making their life in this temporary world a little narrow and troublesome. Allah (swt) intends to do this so that they will be reminded of Him. Otherwise, it is not to take pleasure when Allah gives calamities to His enemies. If Allah were to take pleasure in inflicting calamities on mankind, He would inflict such torments on mankind that there would be no force or power among the creatures to prevent it, for He is the Creator and no one is able to overcome Him.
So the calamities that Allah (swt) gives to people who disbelieve in Him and do not believe in the Hereafter are mercy in their favor. Will they still not understand this? In the face of the calamities inflicted by their Ra'b, they turn to Allah and say: "O Lord, we have made a mistake, we have forgotten you, forgive us for our weakness, you are the most merciful and the best of forgivers"? If they had said so, they would have won their world and improved their Hereafter. But the rebellion and hatred in their nature drive them even further away from Allah. In the darkness of shirk, out of their egoism and arrogance, even if there is a calamity, they are content with it. They are the people who do not turn to Allah, who do not want to recognize Him, and who do not take example.
What is said in the video
Verse 126: Do they not see that every year, once or twice, with various afflictions, they are tested? Yes, in today's news too: in America, in (?), floods hit, a few people died, that is, there were deaths, those places are still flooded, and the wind will still increase its force, roofs blew off; what are these? Sir, what does it say? Do they not see that every year, once or twice, with various afflictions they are tested? And then they neither repent nor take a lesson, it says. Neither repentance nor lesson. In the face of so many calamities, they, with the temptation Satan gives their nafs, with their pride and arrogance, as long as they do not have to say Allah, by helping one another, do not turn to Allah.
Since Allah Almighty does not intend injustice to people, to those wandering in (?), who do not believe in Allah and the Last Day, by giving one or two calamities a year, squeezing them a little in their transient life in this world, He puts them in hardship. Allah Almighty's intent in doing this is for His Essence to be remembered. Giving calamities to these enemies of Allah is not in order to take pleasure in it. If Allah took pleasure when giving calamities to people, since He is the Creator and no one could withstand Him, He would punish people in such a way that among created beings no strength or power could be found to prevent this punishment.
So the calamities that Allah Almighty gives to people who deny Him and do not believe in the hereafter are a mercy in these people's favour. O people! Turn back and see, know that He is your Lord. That is, know your helplessness. Your Lord who created you did not create you to wrong you. What will He do? When you turn back, He will give you Paradise in the hereafter. If you go on like this, look, compared to the punishment you could not bear here in the world, in the hereafter an even greater punishment (?) you will remain in, He warns them. Yes.
will they still not understand this? Will they not understand what? Let us take the paragraph again. So the calamities that Allah Almighty gives to people who deny Him and do not believe in the hereafter are a mercy in these people's favour. Will they still not understand this? In the face of the calamities their Lord gives, turning to Allah, will they not say: O Lord, we erred, we forgot You. Forgive us for our helplessness, You are the most merciful and the best of those who forgive? Had they said so, they would both win their world and build up their hereafter. But the rebellion and hatred in their nature drive them even further from Allah.
In the darkness of shirk, out of ego and arrogance, even if it is calamity, to these, even if it is calamity, they consent to these. They are people who do not want to turn to Allah and know Him, and who take no lesson. Yes.
