They said; “Oh Jethro (Shuayb)! Is it your prayer that orders you to abandon what our fathers have been worshipping, or to abandon doing whatever we desire with regard to our possessions? But you are kind and intelligent.”
Tafsir
The people of Median said to Hadrat Shu'ayb: O Shu'ayb, do you forbid us from our idols that our fathers worshipped, do you ask us to abandon them, or do you ask us not to do what we wish with our property? Does your prayer command us to do these things? So Allah, the God of the religion you believe in, commands us this way?
Do you think that by appearing so soft to us you will turn us from our path? Do you think that you are so wise and we are fools?
What is said in the video
Surah Hud, verse 87: They said, O Shuayb, what our fathers worshipped, the idols, or, regarding our wealth, doing as we wish – does your prayer command you that we abandon these? Yet you are gentle and very wise, it says. They are saying this to Hud (peace be upon him), they are saying it to Shuayb (peace be upon him). Shuayb's people. The people of Midian say to Shuayb (peace be upon him): O Shuayb, the idols our fathers worshipped – are you keeping us from our idols? Do you want us to abandon them? Or do you want us to live as we wish regarding our wealth? I mean, what does it say: or that we not do as we wish with our wealth – is that what you want? Does your prayer command that this be so?
That is, does the Allah of the religion you believe in command us this way? Do you think you will turn us from our way by appearing gentle to us like this? You think you are very clever, so do you take us for fools? Yes. So they are saying this: Your prayer – that I not spend my wealth as I wish, spend in spending it – this wealth I earned by my own desire and wish – is your Lord, restricting my desire and wish, telling me: do it this way, this way? Come on, I earned this. This is my wealth. Well, you earned it. It is not your wealth. It is Allah's wealth, entrusted to you. Yes, you earned it. And for what you do with what you earned, you will get reward and sin.
They are each a trust to you. Every soul will taste death, and the inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah, it says. Which wealth do you (?) speak of? So Allah Almighty – the wealth you earned is for your future, too. Do not waste it, do not squander it, do not spend it chasing the whims of the nafs. Or else: when I gave you this wealth, the provision of your children and your wife too I gave to you. As you use it, do not wrong them either. Give them their rights too. (?) This is in your will, but you have no authority to use it as you wish, it says. How beautifully Allah Almighty puts it.
Yes. That is the verse.
