Translation

Remember that Abraham suplicated (to his Lord, saying); “Oh my Dear Lord! Make this town (Makkah) safe and keep me and my sons far from worshipping idols.”

Tafsir

Allah (swt) means remember. By referring to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Allah (swt) made the Prophet (PBUH) a witness to many of the events of the Prophets who lived on earth before the Prophet (PBUH) entered the world, while he was still in the Hereafter. In this respect, the Prophet is a witness over all the Prophets. Again, when Allah (swt) says, "Remember that", He is confirming the Prophethood of the Prophet (s.a.w.).

(Remember when Abraham said: "My Lord, make this city, Makkah al-Mukarrama, safe. That is why Makkah is a safe city. It is free from all calamities and invasions. This is evidenced by the fact that the enemy who came to invade Makkah with elephants was destroyed by the birds of Babel. In addition, no one but Muslims are allowed to enter Mecca and Medina, thus ensuring that there is no fitna and rebellion there.

(Keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.) He also prayed to Allah for his progeny. Since the human nafs is inclined towards evil and enjoys it, one may find himself in disbelief. In this respect, when a person seeks help from Allah (swt), Allah (swt) puts His light in his heart with His mercy and protects those who seek His help with this light.

Prayer and ablution are the weapons of the believer. When a person prays, he is declaring his helplessness towards Allah (swt) and asking Him to help him. Allah (swt) accepts all prayers by answering people's prayers. However, because man is in a hurry, he says that I prayed and my prayer was not accepted, and he blames Allah. However, Allah has accepted the prayer of the one who prayed. However, He did not grant the one who prayed a prayer that was not in his destiny, perhaps one that would have brought him a calamity, out of His mercy during his earthly life. When this person sees that his request is not granted by Allah, he is patient, and when he trusts in Allah, he will be rewarded in the Hereafter. When man is called to account in the Hereafter. He will be ashamed of what he has done in the face of Allah's abundant mercy. When this person's faith is perfected in the Hereafter, he will say to Allah (swt): "O Lord, I see many good deeds here that I did not do in the world and were made to look as if I had done them. The purpose of this statement will be that the person's faith has been perfected and his love for Allah will be roaring. Allah (swt) will say: "When you were in the world, you made such and such prayers to me, but since those prayers were not in your destiny and would have brought harm to you, I did not answer your prayers in the world and did not give you the reward for your prayers. You were patient with a good patience. He will say that the reward for that patience and the prayers you have made are these rewards that you have seen today. Therefore, one should not be lacking in prayer. One should make supplication to Allah, the Almighty. Seek Allah's mercy and try to gain His pleasure in this transient worldly life.

What is said in the video

Verse 35. Remember when Abraham said: My Lord, make this city, Mecca, secure, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols, said Abraham (peace be upon him) when he came to Mecca. Allah Almighty, by saying 'remember', means the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), because before the Prophet (peace be upon him) honored the world with his coming, while still in the realm of the hereafter, Allah Almighty made the Prophet (peace be upon him) a witness to many events of the prophets who lived in the world. That is why He uses the word 'remember'. So the Prophet is alive, in this world and the hereafter.

Yes, in this respect the Prophet (peace be upon him) is a witness over all the prophets. Again, by saying 'remember', Allah Almighty confirms the prophethood of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Remember when Abraham said: My Lord, make this city, that is, Mecca the Honored, secure. That is why Mecca the Honored is a safe land. It is (?) all kinds of disasters and invasion.

When the Negus came to invade Mecca with his elephants, the Ababil birds destroyed them. Yes, that the enemy who came to invade Mecca the Honored with elephants was destroyed by the Ababil birds shows this. Also, since no one but Muslims enters Mecca and Medina, one is safe there from strife and rebellion.

Saying 'keep me and them away from worshipping these idols', he prayed to Allah Almighty for his descendants.

Since the human nafs is inclined to evil and enjoys those evils, a person can, through a delusion, find himself in kufr. In this respect, a person asking Allah Almighty for help means that Allah Almighty, out of mercy, puts His light into his heart and, with this light, those who ask Allah for help He protects. Yes. In Surah An-Nur. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Allahu nûru's-semâvâti ve'l-ard, meselü nûrihî ke-mişkâtin fîhâ misbâh, el-misbâhu fî is the verse in which He says this. Those who love Us, We (?) Our light in their hearts. That light, He says, is like a (?) lit from olive oil; neither the shadow of the east nor of the west falls on it.

That is, the sun rises in the east. Neither outward knowledge; and in the west the sun sets. Nor, He says, does falsehood affect it. Yes. When he says 'protect my descendants from those who worship idols', Muslims are more or less of his descent, not more or less, Muslims are of his descent. Why do we say we are of his descent? If they asked us, 'Whose millah are you of?' — Abraham's millah. When they ask, 'Whose ummah are you?' — we are the ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Yes. Why? We are the millah of Abraham. Because Abraham was never one of the polytheists. He is hanif, because he believed in one Allah since his childhood.

Since we too have believed in one Allah since our childhood, we are (?) and we are the millah of Abraham (peace be upon him). Yes. We are also the servants of Allah Almighty. We must not forget this: first, the servants of Allah; Abraham's millah; and we are the ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Saying 'keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols', he prayed to Allah Almighty for his descendants. Since the human nafs is inclined to evil and enjoys those evils, a person can, through a delusion, find himself in kufr. In this respect, a person asking Allah Almighty for help means that Allah Almighty, out of His mercy, puts Allah Almighty's light into his heart and those who ask Allah for help He protects with this light.

Prayer and ablution are the believer's weapon. By praying, a person declares that he is helpless before Allah Almighty and asks that He not withhold His help from him. And Allah Almighty answers people's prayers, which means He accepts all prayers in His presence. But since man is hasty, when he prays, 'my prayer was not accepted', they say, and they set about blaming Allah. Yet Allah has accepted the prayer of the one who prays. But the prayer that is not within his destiny, that might bring him a disaster, He, out of His mercy, has not granted to the one praying in worldly life. And when this person sees that his request was not met by Allah, if he is patient and puts his trust in Allah, he finds its reward in the realm of the hereafter.

When a person is called to account in the hereafter, before the abundant mercy of Allah Almighty he will be ashamed of what he did. When this person's faith reaches perfection in the hereafter, to Allah Almighty he will say: O Lord, here, for things I did not do in the world and that are shown as if I had done them, I see many rewards. The purpose of this (?) is that, when a person's faith reaches perfection, it will come from the surging of his love and affection for Allah. And Allah Almighty: While you were in the world, you made such and such prayers to Me; since those prayers you made were not within your destiny and would have harmed you, I did not answer your prayers in the world and did not give you what you prayed for. And you were patient with a beautiful patience; the reward for that patience and for the prayers you made is these rewards you see today, Allah Almighty will say; this is how He will address His servants.

What will He say? These prayers of yours that I did not grant in the world, that would have harmed you — because la gaybillah, Allah — Allah knows the unseen — because they would have harmed you, and because you were patient with them, the rewards I give you today are the reward for your patience, He will say. That is why a person should never cease praying, and should make supplication to Allah, the Self-Sufficient; taking refuge in Allah's mercy, in this transient worldly life he should try to earn Allah's good pleasure.
