Al-Kahf 45: And give them this example; the worldly life resembles a water that We send down from the sky. With this water, the plants on earth (first grow and) tangle up, and then become dry stubble that the wind blows them away. Allah has control over everything.

Translation

And give them this example; the worldly life resembles a water that We send down from the sky. With this water, the plants on earth (first grow and) tangle up, and then become dry stubble that the wind blows them away. Allah has control over everything.

Tafsir

Allah (swt) informs people of His existence through examples. In this verse, He gives another example in a way that people can understand. Allah (swt) gives life to His creatures with water. There are three objects that if one of them is missing, living beings cannot come to life. The first is water, the second is air and the third is the sun. So Allah sends down water from the sky. The vegetation on earth comes to life with this water, multiplies and mixes with each other. Finally, autumn or winter comes and these plants turn into rubbish and are blown away by the winds and become useless. Worldly life is similar to this. If a person lives according to his nafs, disobeys Allah's commands and dies as a disbeliever, all his deeds become useless. In the Hereafter, they will have no reward other than the punishment they will receive from Allah.

The good deeds of such people in this world have also been in vain. This is because such people have lived in this world in their nafs, denying Allah and the Hereafter and following the footsteps of Shaytan. Their life in this world is Allah's mercy, like water coming down from the sky. The growth of crops is Allah's mercy in the universe for everyone. Even if he does good deeds in the world, he does them out of pride and arrogance, asserting his own self, not recognizing Allah, and looking for the reward he will receive from people. Finally, upon his death, all the good deeds he did in the world are wasted and become rubbish. He is destitute and orphaned in the Hereafter.

Allah has power over everything, because He is the one who creates out of nothing and knows the formulas for it, and is the owner of the secret of creation. He is perfect, complete, omniscient and omnipotent. Therefore, He is the Creator of the universe. There is no other deity besides Him. All creation is under the sovereignty of Allah. He has dominion and power over everything. He is sovereign in His judgment. There is no one to judge in the Hereafter except Allah (swt).

Surah Al-Kahf Verse 45: Also set forth for them this example. The life of this world is like water We send down from the sky, through which the plants of the earth first flourish and mingle together, and then become chaff scattered by the wind. Allah has power over all things. Allah Almighty makes His existence known to people through examples. In this verse He gives another example in a way people can understand.

Allah Almighty brings the living beings He created to life with water. There are three things; if one of them were missing, living beings could not live. The first of these is water, the second air, and the third the sun. So Allah sent down water from the sky. The plants on earth come to life through this water, multiply and mingle together. In the end autumn or winter comes. In these seasons these plants turn into chaff and are scattered by the winds. So they become useless. The life of this world is like this. Man lives by his nafs. If he does not follow Allah's commands and dies as a disbeliever, then all his deeds become useless.

In the hereafter, apart from the punishments they will receive from Allah, they have no reward. The good deeds such people did in the world have also come to nothing. Because in the world these people denied Allah and the hereafter, lived (?) and followed the footsteps of Satan. Their life in this world is, like the water from the sky, Allah's mercy. The growth of the crops is Allah's mercy in the universe reaching everyone. Even if he did good deeds in the world, it is that, out of pride and arrogance, putting his own self forward and not recognizing Allah, he acts with an eye on the reward he will get from people.

Finally, with his death, all the fine deeds he did in the world have gone to waste and turned to chaff. In the hereafter he is left without a share and without anyone. Allah has power over all things. Because He who creates from nothing and knows its formulas possesses the secret of creation. He is perfect, flawless, all-knowing and has power over everything. Therefore He is the Creator of the universe. There is no other god besides Him. All created beings are under Allah's rule. He rules and has power over everything, He is the one who judges in His judgment; in the hereafter there is also no one besides Allah Almighty who will pass judgment.
