Al-Isra 110: Say; “Call onto Allah by saying Allah or by saying Rahman. Whichever name you call Allah with. The most beautiful names belong to Allah. Do not recite in your prayer with a loud voice and do not lower your voice too much. Find a middle in between the two.”

Translation

Say; “Call onto Allah by saying Allah or by saying Rahman. Whichever name you call Allah with. The most beautiful names belong to Allah. Do not recite in your prayer with a loud voice and do not lower your voice too much. Find a middle in between the two.”

Tafsir

The most beautiful names, Esmaul hüsna, are Allah's. Whether people call them Allah or Rahman, these attributes belong to Allah. No human being or created being can be acquainted with these names.

So, if we call Allah with any of these names and make a supplication to Allah from our hearts, Allah accepts us in His Essence.

In the first sense, this verse says that prayers should be performed with or without vocal recitation, and in the second sense, it says that Zuhr and 'Asr should be performed without vocal recitation, and Fajr, Maghrib and Isha prayers should be performed with vocal recitation.

According to another meaning, the meaning of Salat here is to make supplication to Allah (swt). He commands to pray to Allah (swt) silently or aloud, depending on the occasion.

It is narrated that this verse was revealed as follows. One night when the Prophet (PBUH) was praying, he prayed to Allah (swt), Ya Allah! He prayed, "O Rahman! At that time, other polytheists, such as Abu Jahl, passing by the Prophet's house, heard the Prophet's prayer and mistook Rahman for another deity in the Prophet's prayer. The next day Abu Jahl and the polytheists said to the people, "Muhammad is calling both Allah and Rahman, and Muhammad, who forbade us from worshipping two gods, is himself worshipping two gods," thinking that he was calling a second god along with Allah.

Allah has many names. Allah (swt) says that the most beautiful names are Allah's. Allah has revealed the verse that whichever of these beautiful names you call Him by, He will answer you.

What is said in the video

We have come to verse 110. Say: Whether you say Allah or say Rahman, whichever you say is fine. For the most beautiful names belong to Him. Do not recite loudly in your prayer. And do not lower you too much in it either. And do not lower your voice too much in it either. Take a way between the two. The most beautiful names, Asma-ul Husna, belong to Allah. Whether people say Allah or Rahman, these attributes are exclusive to Allah. No being among humans and created things can be qualified by these names. So whichever of these names we call Allah by, and turning to Allah with entreaty from our hearts, Allah Almighty in His essence accepts us. In its first meaning, this verse concerns the prayer being performed recited aloud or silently.

It commands that the noon and afternoon prayers be silent, and the morning, evening and night prayers be performed with recitation aloud. According to another meaning, the prayer (salat) meant here is making supplication to Allah Almighty. Depending on the case, quietly, that is silently, or aloud, to Allah Almighty it commands making supplication. The way this verse was revealed is narrated as follows. One night, while the Prophet (peace be upon him) was praying, to Allah Almighty he supplicated, saying: O Allah, O Rahman. At that time, polytheists such as Abu Jahl, as they passed by the house of the Prophet (peace be upon him), heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) supplicating.

From the supplication the Prophet (peace be upon him) made, they took Rahman to be another god. Thinking he was calling on a second god along with Allah, the next day Abu Jahl and Abu Jahl and the polytheists told people: Muhammad calls on both Allah and Rahman; Muhammad, who forbids us to worship two gods, himself worships two gods, they said. Allah Almighty has many names. Thereupon Allah Almighty says: The most beautiful names belong to Allah. Whichever of these beautiful names you call Allah by, it is fine, He says, and so He sent down His verse. Yes.
