Al-Kahf 63: (The helper) said, “Did you see, when we retreated to the rock (for rest), I forgot about the fish. It was no one other than shaytan (devil) who made me forget about it. It had found its way to the sea in a strange way.”

Translation

(The helper) said, “Did you see, when we retreated to the rock (for rest), I forgot about the fish. It was no one other than shaytan (devil) who made me forget about it. It had found its way to the sea in a strange way.”

Tafsir

When Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' asked his young companion Hadrat Yusha 'alaihis-salâm' for something to eat for their mid-morning meal, at that moment Hadrat Yusha 'alaihis-salâm' took shelter in the rock, that is, in the evening, when they were resting, When they slept for a while at night and stayed on the rock to continue their way, Hazrat Joshua 'alaihis-salâm' watched in amazement and astonishment as the dead fish miraculously came back to life, jumped up, dived into the sea and took a path of its own.

The place where the dead fish was resurrected and splashed into the sea is the place where Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' and Hadrat Khidr 'alaihis-salâm' were to meet. He would not tell this incident to Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm'. Or, when Musa 'alaihis-salâm' was asleep, Joshua 'alaihis-salâm' saw the fish come to life and leap into the sea, and thought it right to tell him about it after he woke up. After Hazrat Musa woke up, the devil made Hazrat Joshua 'alaihis-salâm' forget this incident, and they continued on their way after their rest. When Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' asked Hazrat Yusha 'alaihis-salâm' for something to eat for their mid-morning meal, Hazrat Yusha 'alaihis-salâm' remembered this incident. He explained the situation to Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm'.

What is said in the video

Verse 63 of Surah Al-Kahf: The young man: Did you see, he said, when we took refuge at the rock I forgot the fish; none but Satan made me forget to remember it. It had taken its way into the sea in a wondrous manner. When Moses (peace be upon him), from his young companion Joshua (peace be upon him), asked for something so they could eat their morning meal, at that moment Joshua (peace be upon him) — when they took refuge at the rock, that is, when evening came and they withdrew to rest, when they stopped at the rock to sleep a while for the night and then continue on their way, how the dead fish, miraculously coming back to life, with (?) into the sea plunged and took a way of its own — Joshua (peace be upon him) watches this with wonder and astonishment.

Where the dead fish came back to life and leapt into the sea is the place where Moses (peace be upon him) and Khidr (peace be upon him) are brought together. Joshua (peace be upon him) forgets to tell this event to Moses. Or, having seen the fish come back to life and leap into the sea while Moses (peace be upon him) was asleep, Joshua (peace be upon him) thought it right to tell him about this event after Moses had slept. That is, after Moses woke up — he is asleep anyway, from his sleep let me not wake him, let him wake up and then I will tell him, he said. And after Moses woke up, with Satan making Joshua (peace be upon him) forget this event, after their rest they continue on their way. So when Moses (peace be upon him) asked Joshua (peace be upon him) for something for their morning meal, Joshua (peace be upon him) remembers this event and tells Moses (peace be upon him) what happened.
