Hazrat Zulqarnayn continued his journey. This time he came across a people in the east. This people did not know how to build a house to protect themselves. When the sun shone directly on them, they could not protect themselves from the sun. To protect themselves from the sun, they would either go underground in vents or build a sand dune and hide behind it. When the sun went down, they hunted or worked for their food. It is estimated that this was a Sahara desert. According to rumors, this tribe was a Zench tribe.

We have come to verse 90 of Surah Al-Kahf.

"Finally, when he reached the place where the sun rises, he found it rising on a people for whom We had made no cover against the sun," it says.

Where would a place be in which no cover against the sun was made? So it means a place like the deserts. Dhul-Qarnayn continues his journey; this time he comes upon a people in the east. This people did not know how to build a house that would protect them. When the sun rose on them from the east, they could not protect themselves from the sun. To protect themselves from the sun, they would go into openings underground, or they would make a sand hill and hide behind it. And when the sun beat down, they would hunt or work to obtain their food. It is assumed that this place was a Sahara desert. And according to narrations, this people was a Zanj tribe.
