Tafsir
The Prophet (PBUH) came as a mercy to the worlds. The whole human world was indirectly created from the spirit of the Prophet (SAW). Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) wanted all people to be Muslims. Let them know Allah as one God. Let them bear witness that their Prophet is the servant and messenger of Allah.
It was with these feelings that the Prophet (PBUH) used to strive to bring the whole humanity to believe in the one and only Allah, and he used to make great efforts to save those who did not believe, knowing the torments they would suffer because of their ignorance. In this case, he was subjected to the warning of Allah (swt) against his efforts that were destroying him. If the disbelievers do not believe in this new book, i.e. the Holy Qur'an as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and if these people suffer destruction because of their disbelief, they will be addressed as "You will almost destroy yourself with sorrow".
It is clear from this verse that the Prophet (PBUH) knew that people were in ignorance, so he showed compassion and mercy to people in order to guide those who disbelieved in Allah and keep them in the faith, and that is why he was the recipient of this verse of Allah (swt). Indeed, for the sake of the Prophet (s.a.w.), Allah (swt) removed destruction from mankind until the Day of Judgment. However, He did not stop giving people calamities instead. Allah (swt) afflicts people in order to bring them to their senses and to protect them from the punishment of Allah on the Day of Judgment.

Verse 6, the 6th verse of Surah Al-Kahf. If they do not believe in this new book — new book, he said; He sent the Torah, sent the Psalms, sent the Gospel. What is this new book? The Holy Quran gathers the Torah, the Psalms and the Gospel within it, a brand-new book. If they do not believe in this new book and perish because of it, with grief after them you will almost destroy yourself, He says to the Prophet. Yes, why? He grieves. Because the worlds are from the light of the Prophet, and the prophets from his spirit. Since, indirectly, all people were created from the spirit of the Prophet, he wanted all people to become Muslims.
If a father had millions of people — think, you are a father, not tyrannical fathers though — they say to the Prophet: whom do they call a tyrant? A father who discriminates among his children is also a tyrant, he says. In this case, in this case, if millions of people were his children, and among those children one rebelled against him and stopped listening to what the father says, in the end, would that father, knowing full well the punishment he will suffer, cast him out from among his children? What does he do? He says: oh, don't, my son, come, look, at the end of this there is such a disaster, he says, I mean, he says.
Throughout his life, until in the end he dies, even if that person, until that person dies, rebelled against the father, that father, even at his death, would say: if only he had become a Muslim, I mean, he says. Or: if only he had been obedient, he says. So the Prophet too took all people under his wing like his children. Yes. That is what the verse says. The sixth verse of Surah Al-Kahf. If they do not believe in this new book and perish because of it, with grief after them you will almost destroy yourself. The Prophet (peace be upon him) came as a mercy to the worlds. All of humankind, too, was indirectly created from the Prophet (peace be upon him), from his spirit.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wanted all people to become Muslims, to know Allah as the one God. That they bear witness that the prophets are servants and messengers of Allah. So the Prophet (peace be upon him), with these feelings, while striving for all of humankind to believe in the One Allah, because he knew, regarding the unbelievers, of their ignorance and the punishments they would suffer, he made great efforts to save them too. In this case, for striving as if to destroy himself, Allah Almighty's warning came to him. If the deniers do not believe in this new book, that is, in what was made known to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by revelation, the Holy Quran, and if these people meet destruction because of their denial, he received the address: you will almost destroy yourself with grief after them.
From this verse it is understood that the Prophet (peace be upon him), because he knew people were in ignorance, in order to bring those who deny Allah to the right path and keep them in faith, how much compassion and mercy he showed people, and that for this reason this verse of Allah Almighty came to him — this is what it shows. Indeed, for the sake of the Prophet (peace be upon him), Allah Almighty has lifted the destruction of people until the Day of Judgment. But instead He has not ceased giving people afflictions. Allah Almighty giving people afflictions is to bring people to their senses and so that on the Day of Judgment they are protected from Allah's punishment.
