Remember David and Solomon too! When they made a judgment on crops. The sheep herd of some people, had grazed freely into these crops and caused damage. We were seeing and were aware of their judgment.
Tafsir
Allah (swt) commemorates them in order to make the Prophet (s.a.w.) narrate the parable of Prophet David and Prophet Solomon. The sheep of a group of people, in a flock, strayed into a crop field at night and devoured it. Then the man who owned the field complained to Hadrat David 'alaihis-salâm' about the sheep owners. Hadrat David 'alaihis-salâm' summoned the parties, and the supporters, having learned of the incident, said that these sheep should be given to the owner of the field, as the loss incurred by the owner of the field was equivalent to the loss incurred by the owner of the field when the sheep were sold.
Then Solomon said that the flock should be given to the owner of the field temporarily, and the owner of the field should cultivate the field, and the owner of the field should benefit from the milk, lambs and wool of the flock until the field is restored, and then the owner of the field should return the flock to the owners when the field is restored. Allah informed Solomon of this fatwa. Thereupon, Hadrat David 'alaihis-salâm' found this fatwa reasonable and renounced his own fatwa.
What is said in the video
We left off at verse 78 of Surah Al-Anbiya.
And remember David and Solomon too, Allah Almighty says to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the Holy Quran. And David and Solomon: once they were giving judgment about a crop field. The flock of sheep of a group of people, roaming loose at night, had scattered into this field and done damage. We were witnessing and knew their judgment. Allah Almighty says this in the verse. Allah Almighty, to tell the Prophet (peace be upon him) the story of David and Solomon, commands: remember these too. The sheep of a group of people, while in a flock, roaming loose at night, enter a crop field and eat up the crop field.
Thereupon the man who owns the field complains to David (peace be upon him) about the owners of the sheep. David (peace be upon him) gathers the parties and, the parties having learned of the event, since, when the sheep are sold, the field owner's damage in the field matches the loss the field owner suffered, he says these sheep should be given to the field owner. That is, how much damage did my field suffer?
Five thousand lira.
How much are the sheep? Five hundred lira. What do ten sheep make? Five thousand lira. Give them to the field owner, he says. But the justice side of the matter is not like that. Now Allah Almighty tells the justice side. Thereupon Solomon, however, says the flock should be given temporarily to the field owner; the flock will be given to the field owner.
The flock's owners are to sow the field, and until the field is back to its former state, from the flock's milk, lambs and wool the field owner is to benefit, and then, when the field owner's field is back to its former state, he is to return the flock to its owners, he says. Allah makes this ruling known to Solomon. Thereupon David (peace be upon him) finds this ruling reasonable and abandons his own ruling. Yes.
