Translation

We taught him to make armors, so that it would protect you from the harms of war. Hence, shall you be grateful?

Tafsir

Allah Ta'ala also taught Hazrat David (peace be upon him) how to make armor so that people would be protected from a sword blow, arrow or spear during battle.

Hadrat David 'alaihis-salâm' had also placed iron at his disposal. He would beat the iron with his fist and turn it into armor. In this respect, the inventor of the first armor tool was Hadrat David 'alaihis-salâm'.

Allah (swt) has bestowed so many blessings upon mankind. He has revealed His miracles to people in this way. In this situation, do people still not come to their senses, do they not turn to Allah (swt), the Giver of all these blessings, and thank Him?

So that people in battle would be protected from a sword blow, an arrow or (?), Allah Almighty also taught David (peace be upon him) how armor is made. He also placed iron under the command of David (peace be upon him). With his fist he would (?) the iron and turn it into armor.
