Tafsir
Allah (swt) continues to list the miracles He has created. By performing His superhuman miracles on His believing servants, Allah (swt) declares that there is no god but Himself.
When Hazrat Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' made supplication and prayer to Allah (swt), Allah (swt) accepted his prayer and commanded the fish to release Hazrat Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' on the shore.
The Prophet (PBUH) says that whoever commits a mistake and asks Allah for forgiveness and prays with the prayer of Hazrat Yunus (Yunus), Allah will accept his prayer.
Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' is referred to in relation to his mother. In this respect, he is called Yunus bin Metta. He is one of the Prophets sent to the people of Israel. He was sent as a Prophet to the people of Nineveh, a town of the Assyrian state, whose ruins can be seen opposite the city of Mosul today. He preached to the people of Nineveh for thirty-three years. Despite his invitation to Allah, the people of this place did not stop worshipping idols.
Hadrat Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' told his people that if you do not give up this idolatry, Allah will give you a great calamity. Seeing that they would not reform, Hadrat Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' went out from among them. After this, the sky darkened and a black smoke covered the sky, and the people of Nineveh realized that a great calamity was about to befall them and began to cry out. They cried out to Allah (swt) and declared that they had abandoned their idols and turned to Allah (swt). Thereupon the terrible black cloud dispersed over the city and the sky began to open. Hadrat Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' came back to his people and conveyed the mission to them for a while longer. The people of Nineveh also followed Hadrat Yunus and listened to his preaching and advice. This is how We deliver the believers, a sign that the people of Nineveh were saved from such a disaster.
According to the narrations, Yunus 'alaihis-salâm' left Nineveh and passed away in a place of seclusion. The Assyrian state also went astray later on. They went astray and went even further and started to worship idols. The land of Nineveh also came under the rule of the Greeks and Romans and the Israelites there were subjected to various calamities and captivity.
What is said in the video
Surah Al-Anbiya, verse 88. Thereupon We accepted his prayer and saved him from grief. Thus do We save the believers, He says. Pay attention to the verse. Thus do We save the believers. So when He is about to destroy a land, Allah creates a cause for the believers and takes them out of there. Yes, the believers are the servants whom Allah Almighty loves.
Because those believers are people who make themselves loved by Allah. They are people who do not step outside the verses of Allah Almighty.
Allah Almighty, accepting the prayer of Jonah (peace be upon him), who had supplicated and prayed to Allah Almighty, commands the fish, and the fish puts Jonah (peace be upon him) on the shore, leaving him there. The Prophet (peace be upon him) says: Whoever makes a mistake and asks Allah for forgiveness and prays with the prayer of Jonah (peace be upon him), Allah accepts his prayer, he says. A hadith. Since He accepted the prayer of a prophet, as a servant, then we too, with the same verse, when we make a mistake, when we realise our helplessness, if we repent resolving never to do it again – pay attention – never to do it again.
But a human, being human, also does it by mistake. That is an exception. (?) never to do it again, Allah Almighty accepts his prayer.
Jonah (peace be upon him) is named after his mother. For this reason he is remembered as Yunus bin Matta. He is one of the prophets sent to the people of the Children of Israel. Opposite today's city of Mosul, in the land of the Assyrian state, to the inhabitants of the town of Nineveh, whose ruins can still be seen, as a prophet he was sent. For about thirty-three years he gave the people of Nineveh religious instruction. Although he called them to Allah, their people, their people did not give up worshipping idols.
Noah (peace be upon him) lived (?) years; they did not give up. Jonah (peace be upon him) told his people: If you do not give up this idolatry, Allah will bring a great calamity upon you. Seeing that they did not reform, Jonah (peace be upon him) left from among them and went away. After that the sky darkened and a black smoke covered the heavens.
The people of Nineveh, realising that a great calamity would befall them, began to wail. They implored Allah Almighty, declared that they had abandoned their idols and turned to Allah, and they turned towards the truth. Thereupon that terrible black cloud dispersed from over the city, and the sky began to clear.
Jonah (peace be upon him) also came back to his people. For a while longer he conveyed his mission to them. And the people of Nineveh followed Jonah (peace be upon him) and some of his advice they heeded. His saying "Thus do We bring the believers to salvation" is a sign that the people of Nineveh were saved from such a disaster. Not only for there. The verse of Allah Almighty, from first to last – in our time, too, some events come about. Allah Almighty takes His righteous servants out of the place where He will bring that calamity, and afterwards He destroys those who are to be destroyed. However, no believer does this, but people who continue in obedience to Allah, if they do not speak out against evil, they too go along with them.
Our Lord knows this. Those who do not speak out against evil. Yes.
Which verse does what I said correspond to? Amr bi'l-ma'ruf, enjoining what is right. If you do not enjoin what is right, even if you do not approve of their evils, if you do not speak up at all – silence comes from consent – you too, along with them, will perish.
Jonah (peace be upon him), who (?), left Nineveh and, in a place where he had withdrawn into seclusion, passed on to the hereafter. The Assyrian state, too, later went astray. Sinking into error and misguidance, and beyond that, they began worshipping idols. The land of Nineveh also came under the rule of the Greeks and the Romans, and those there, the Children of Israel, suffered various calamities and captivity.
