Al-Hajj 25: Those who deny and try to prevent people from Allah’s path, and from Masjid al-Haram, which We have made for all people equal – for inhabitants (of its surroundings) and for those from far away. (They should know) whoever wants to make (people) go astray with oppression, We will make them taste a severe punishment.

Translation

Those who deny and try to prevent people from Allah’s path, and from Masjid al-Haram, which We have made for all people equal – for inhabitants (of its surroundings) and for those from far away. (They should know) whoever wants to make (people) go astray with oppression, We will make them taste a severe punishment.

Tafsir

Whoever stirs up sedition in the Haram Sharif, the Baytullah, which is the common and equal qiblah of the Muslims in Makkah and the people of the provinces who come from outside, i.e. the locals and the provincials, and tries to prevent people from the way of Allah and to prevent them from worshipping, Allah will give them a painful punishment. Allah's punishment is intolerable.

The Baytullah is the common and equal qibla of Muslims. People come here for Hajj and 'Umrah and perform acts of worship. Therefore, according to this verse, the Baytullah is the common property of Muslims. This town cannot be sold and its land cannot be given to anyone.

The circle of haram in Makkah, called Masjid Haram, extends to the whole area of Makkah.

According to the narrations, it is said that this verse was revealed because of Abu Sufyan and his companions who intercepted the Prophet (pbuh) at Hudaybiya on his way to Mecca and refused to let him enter Mecca. Since the Prophet (pbuh) had entered ihram for 'umrah, he did not think it appropriate to fight them, but agreed with the Meccans in the so-called Treaty of Hudaybiyah and postponed 'umrah and hajj for a year.

The reason for the painful punishment of those who prevent people, local or provincial, from following the way of Allah in Makkah al-Mukarrama, the equal Qiblah of the people, is that since all Muslims come from all over the world to worship at the Baytullah, and any movement here would spread to all four corners of the world in an instant, and the place would be filled with sedition, Allah says that those who prevent people from following the way of Allah will be punished with a painful punishment.

What is said in the video

Verse 25 is a verse that has been wrongly explained; let us read it too. Those who disbelieve, who from the path of Allah and from the Masjid al-Haram, which for all people, local or from outside, We made an equal qibla, try to keep people away, should know this: whoever there, with such wrongdoing, leads others away from the truth, We make him taste a painful punishment, it says. From verse 21. And let us read it once more. Those who, from the path of Allah and from what We made an equal qibla for all people, local and from outside, the Masjid al-Haram, try to keep people away should know this: whoever there strays from the truth with such wrongdoing, a painful punishment We make him taste. But look, what do we say there?

They should know this: whoever there, with such wrongdoing, to lead astray, to lead astray from the truth, wants to lead astray — what does it say here? if they stray from the truth with such wrongdoing, with such wrongdoing from the truth if they stray. Someone who comes there does not stray from the truth; what does he do? if they want to lead astray from the truth, those people; that is how it is worded anyway. Look what Allah Almighty says, He says this: they should know that whoever there, with such wrongdoing, strays from the truth, that is, if they see the wrongdoing and stray from the truth.

No one who has come there strays from the truth because they saw wrongdoing. But what does it say here? (?) Those who, from the equal qibla you made, the Masjid al-Haram, try to keep people away should know that — how beautifully it puts it, what is it — people those who try to keep people from the Masjid al-Haram should know this: whoever there strays from the truth with such wrongdoing, whoever wants to lead astray from the truth with wrongdoing, a painful punishment We make him taste, it says. Yes.

The Muslims in Mecca and the provincial people coming from outside, that is, in the Noble Sanctuary, the common and equal qibla of locals and outsiders, in the House of Allah, whoever stirs up strife, keeps people from the path of Allah and tries to prevent them from their worship, Allah Almighty will give them a painful punishment. The Prophet too, to go to Mecca the Honoured, at Hudaybiyyah, when they (?), they did wrong; they did not let (?) into the Kaaba. So if such a situation arises, if they try to prevent them from their worship, Allah Almighty will give them a (?) punishment. And Allah's punishment cannot be endured.

Yes.

The House of Allah is the common and equal qibla of the Muslims. People come here for Hajj and Umrah and perform acts of worship. In this respect, according to this verse, the House of Allah is the common property of the Muslims. This land cannot be sold and its soil cannot be given to anyone. The sacred precinct in Mecca the Honoured, called the Masjid al-Haram, covers the whole area of Mecca. According to reports, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) was going to Mecca the Honoured, about those who blocked their way at Hudaybiyyah and did not want to let them into Mecca, Abu Sufyan and his companions, this verse was revealed, it is (?). When the Prophet (peace be upon him) entered the Umrah ihram, he did not see fit to fight them, and with the agreement called the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah an agreement was made with the Meccans, and postponing Umrah and Hajj by one year was deemed appropriate.

In Mecca the Honoured, at the place that is the equal qibla of people, those who keep people, local and from outside, from the path of Allah: the reason they are struck with a painful punishment is that, since all Muslims come from the four corners of the world to the House of Allah to worship, a movement here would spread in an instant to the four corners of the world and everything would be drowned in strife; so Allah declares that those here who keep people from the path of Allah He will punish with a painful punishment.
