Or were you there when death came upon Jacob? He asked his sons “whose servants will you be after me?” They said, “we will be servants of Allah, who is your God, the God of your ancestors Abraham, Ismaeel and Isaac, the only God”. We are Muslims (who have only submitted to Allah).”
Tafsir
In this verse, Allah wants to tell people something through past events. (By saying, "Were you there when death came to Ya'qub?", Allah, who is eternal and everlasting, is informing people that His Essence is eternal and everlasting by telling people that His Essence was there and the events that took place there. Then He symbolizes that His Essence is eternal by saying: "All that I have created is mortal, but I am eternal".
Past nations have come and gone, and by narrating these events to the nations that live in the present and future, it is both showing the prophets to the people as an example, and clearly informing the people of its Verses to prove that its Essence is eternal, aware of all creation and its existence. Hadrat Ya'qub 'alaihis-salâm said to his sons, "Whom will you serve after me?" They said, "We will serve the only God, the God of you and your ancestors Ibrahim, Ismail and Isaac.
Their father, Hazrat Ya'qub, handed over the greatest inheritance to his sons by conveying Islam to them. In one of the verses of the Qur'an, Allah says: "The inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah". If we briefly explain this Verse, which we have explained in the previous Verses; All souls are mortal. Existence belongs to Allah. Allah is eternal with His Essence. Since all souls taste death, people cannot take even a particle of Allah's creation to the Hereafter. But the inheritance that people will take to the Hereafter is the great inheritance, the inheritance of religion, through the religion of Islam that they have believed in while fulfilling their duties of servitude to Allah. The good deeds and good deeds they have done are people's wealth. It is the good deeds and sins of people that will go with them to the Hereafter.
It was by leaving Islam to his sons that Hadrat Ya'qub 'alaihis-salâm' left the greatest legacy and wealth. By embracing Islam, his sons promised their father that they would serve Allah, the One and only God, and that they would submit to Him and live by Islam.
What is said in the video
Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 133. The noble verse: Or were you there when death came to Jacob? He says. Before creating the worlds, our Lord, self-subsisting, He, when no being existed, self-subsisting, existing, Allah Almighty: look, how beautifully, when He created beings, that He was the First He tells. He informs us of his life. That is, I am the absolute owner of this universe, says Allah Almighty, I. Or were you there when death came to Jacob? Then he said to his sons, whom will you serve after me? Look, He informs us. How well our Lord listens. He hears you. He sees (?), He does. He knows everything. Our Lord, who created us.
(?). Without His permission even we cannot move from our place (?). Yes, what does this mean? He has programmed all the worlds. It means that within that program no being can disrupt this program. Yes. Here is a verse on this: Unless We will, you cannot will. What has happened has happened and is done. But by Our willing everything changes. But (?) a word came to pass. What is this?
With Us there is a book that is preserved in the Preserved Tablet. And after that, neither addition nor reduction is made. Why? If an addition or reduction were made, Allah Almighty would have renewed Himself or evolved. Yet He has no need of that. He is the First and the Last, self-subsisting, the treasure of the secret of creation. Yes. Or were you there when death came to Jacob? Then he said to his sons, whom will you serve after me? They: we will serve the One Allah, the God of you and your fathers Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac; we are Muslims who have submitted only to Him, they said. (?).
So the scholars too, after the prophet, call out to people like this. O people! Whom will you serve? Whom? The One God who created us, besides whom there is no god? Or, deceived by your own nafs and Satan, to give your heart to the things Allah created and to follow their path? Be wise. So what does a wise person say?
Selim Yusuf: peace be upon you. Allah accepts his greeting; may Allah be pleased with you, Hodja, he says. And with all of us, Selim Yusuf. Yes.
Inshallah Selim Yusuf has also listened to whether these spirits exist or not. Inshallah. Selim Yusuf has listened too, inshallah.
If he hasn't, Muhsin, our son, will put it on the site tomorrow, as the live broadcast, and you can listen.
So Allah Almighty, as the absolute owner of the universe, created all His creations. Among His creations, to man, the noblest of creatures whom He took as His addressee, of His Spirit He gave. And man, a part of His Spirit, to Himself He made a mirror. A mirror. Gentlemen, It is clear from here too that the spirit is in no one else. We are (?) Muslims, they said. In the verse, Allah Almighty, through past events, wants to tell people something. Through past events He wants to tell people something. What is it? Hüve'l-evvelü ve'l-âhiru ve'z-zâhiru ve'l-bâtın. Allah, self-subsisting, the First and the Last.
He: that there is no god besides Him, and that He, from the First to the Last, follows those who come, knows, witnesses what they do; and people, with what they do, themselves against themselves, those around, and Allah they call as witness. Right? And that until the Day of Judgment, after the Judgment too, He will remain everlasting at the Judgment, and is the Owner of the Judgment, the Owner of the realm of the Hereafter, the Owner of the hidden realms; and that He will set up the Supreme Court there and in the Supreme Court call people to account: Allah Almighty wants to make these known. I am without beginning and without end, He says.
Yes.
Were you there when death came to Jacob? So Allah, without beginning and end, self-subsisting, by saying I was there, makes known to people that He was there, and by telling people the events that happened there, that He, without beginning and end, is abiding. So we said. Yes.
And after that, by His saying, all My creations are perishable but I am everlasting, His being without beginning and end is symbolized. Look, they too passed away. To the time, to the time after you too I will speak, He says. So only I am everlasting, He says. All My creations are mortal. So every soul shall taste death. But spirits are not mortal; look, pay attention.
It shall taste death, He says. The spirit shall taste death. Your return is to Me, He says. Then Allah, self-subsisting, is everlasting.
Past communities came and went. They lived their time. They came, they went. By telling these events to those living in the time and to communities to come, both to show people the prophets as an example, and that He, being everlasting, is aware of all creation, and for the proof of His existence, His verses being made clearly known to people.
Jacob (peace be upon him) then said to his sons, whom will you serve after me?
I want to draw your attention very much to this. I am drawing your attention very much to this word. (?) the verse, of course, the verse. Yes. Whom will you serve after me, he said.
Why do I want to draw attention? Jacob (peace be upon him) does not say to his children, my son, I leave you this. He does not say, my son, there is gold here, silver there, a field here, property there, I leave it to you.
The greatest inheritance: he leaves the greatest inheritance, inheritance. What is that inheritance? A (?) father leaving his religion as inheritance to his son. The greatest inheritance. Worldly affairs come and go. They are material things given to people for testing, material things given to people so that people are tested.
Allah Almighty tests people in plenty and in want. But what endures is the religion a person leaves (?) to his child. With that religion, that person builds up both his world and his Hereafter.
Look how beautiful the words of Jacob (peace be upon him) are. What was he leaving him? Look at the words, for leaving his religion as inheritance. What does he say? Whom will you serve after me, he said. And they: we will serve the One Allah, the God of you and your fathers Abraham, Ishmael and Isaac, they said. Hey man, now when marrying: he has a house, he has a car, they say. When marrying: he has a car, they say. When marrying, does anyone ever ask about the religion of Islam, whether he lives it? He has a house, a car, money too, whatever he is. Then: so I lived this world, with a few hours of life.
Then, after that, disaster. Instead of asking about those, look, ask about the hadith of the Prophet. What does it say? Give your children to one who does not pray (?) and do not throw them into the fire, it says. If... does one who prays necessarily pray until the end? (?) Allah knows. One in a thousand, ten in a thousand, fifty in a thousand, twenty in a thousand, whatever, one in ten. There are times of one percent. I mean, there will be those who don't pray, but at least they do not leave Islam. At least it does not go as far as (?) not knowing Allah. Well then, we give to one who does not pray, and doesn't he end up praying?
Well, of them too one percent pray, ten percent pray. The others (?) percent, if we (?), taken generally, in general these rules: exceptions do not break the rule. What is the rule? The rule is to live the religion of Islam. To know it and to leave the religion of Islam as inheritance to our children. This is the greatest inheritance. We will be asked about this. We will be asked about our wealth too, whether we earned it lawfully or unlawfully. But first we will be asked about this. You, to your son: I gave you your child as a trust. This child of yours, whom I gave you as a trust, My religion did you teach him? He will say. And after that the others will come anyway.
Yes. Their father, Jacob, by conveying the religion of Islam to his sons, the greatest inheritance to them handed over. Look. We say that too. The greatest inheritance. In a verse He declares, the inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. Allah Almighty. Let us briefly explain this verse we opened in the previous verses. Every soul is mortal. The sense of existence belongs to Allah. Allah is everlasting in Himself. Since every soul shall taste death, of Allah's creations people cannot take even (?) to the realm of the Hereafter. Not even (?). All of it stays in the world. What are we saying? The inheritance of the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah.
So however much of what you earned you leave as inheritance to your son, however much you leave as inheritance to your children, are you leaving what is lawful or what is unlawful? But you could not take it with you. What will you take? the good deeds and sins you committed while earning it. This. Good deeds and sins. This is what you will take.
Yes.
But people's inheritance: while doing their duties of servanthood to Allah, with the religion of Islam they believed in, they come to own that great inheritance, the inheritance of religion. The good and beautiful deeds they have done are people's wealth. What will go with people to the realm of the Hereafter are people's good deeds and sins. Yes, so Jacob (peace be upon him), by leaving the religion of Islam to his sons, the greatest inheritance and (?) he left. And his sons, by taking on Islam, that they would serve the One Allah and, submitting to Him, live upon Islam, gave their father their word.
And to this, the Asbat, (?) Jacob's sons. Yes.
